It was a message from Chu Jinhan—just two words: “Business trip.”
Song Yunfei frowned. He was also on a business trip?
Given her own previous experience, she found it somewhat hard to believe those two words.
The last time she went back to her hometown, she had also used the excuse of a “business trip.”
Song Yunfei typed: Where are you going on a business trip?
Then… there was no reply again.
By the afternoon, she still hadn’t received any message. Unable to wait until the end of the workday, she went directly to the factory.
When the front desk saw her, they immediately felt like they were facing a major threat.
“Miss Song, Supervisor Chu is not in the company.” The receptionist maintained a stiff smile, thinking nervously: Is this going to start again?
Song Yunfei couldn’t be bothered to deal with much else and asked, “Then where did he go?”
“I’m not sure about that.”
“What about Manager He?”
“Manager He… Manager He is also not here.” This was a lie. The receptionist didn’t dare let her go in to look for Manager He.
“Alright then.”
Song Yunfei didn’t make things difficult for her. She turned and walked out.
The receptionist let out a breath of relief, already preparing to block her if necessary—but unexpectedly, Song Yunfei didn’t force her way in.
Since Song Yunfei didn’t have Manager He’s phone number, she could only wait downstairs.
She was worried that something might have happened to Chu Jinhan.
How could someone be working overtime one moment and suddenly go on a business trip the next?
On the other side, Chu Jinhan had returned to his own villa, taken a shower, and changed his clothes.
He was now at the hospital.
After reviewing his examination report, the doctor stood up, walked up to him, and carefully asked, “Mr. Chu, are you experiencing any discomfort right now?”
Leaning casually on the sofa, Chu Jinhan listened to the doctor and thought for a moment. “Not for now. Why?”
“From the examination results, some of your damaged neural tissues have not fully recovered. Your current condition appears to be a sudden, stimulus-triggered recovery—almost as if normal function bypassed the damaged areas…”
“Get to the point.”
The doctor coughed awkwardly and said, “In short, we recommend avoiding excessive mental strain and maintaining emotional stability. Otherwise, you may experience side effects such as headaches, memory confusion, or disorientation.”
Chu Jinhan fell into thought.
After a moment, he slightly raised his hand. The doctor understood the signal, nodded, and left the room.
Wei Ke hesitated for a while before saying, “Mr. Chu, should you rest for a couple of days before returning?”
Chu Jinhan glanced at him. “Do you know who did it?”
Wei Ke frowned. He naturally understood what Chu Jinhan was referring to—the erasure of clues.
Even the airport surveillance footage had been deleted. The person behind this was definitely no ordinary figure.
“Do you think it could be Chu Xiuye?”
Chu Jinhan replied, “No. He doesn’t have that level of capability.”
“Then it can only be those few within the board of shareholders.”
By now, Yanjin Group had grown into a complex web of power. Each shareholder had significant backing.
Everyone wanted to control Yanjin for themselves. If the chairman position fell into the hands of another shareholder, even major shareholders could find themselves sidelined.
Wei Ke analyzed the situation for a while, then suddenly noticed Chu Jinhan had drifted off again.
“Mr. Chu.”
“Mr. Chu?”
Chu Jinhan looked up at him.
Wei Ke cautiously asked, “Since you’ve returned now, what should we do about Song… that person?”
Chu Jinhan asked in return, “What do you think should be done?”
Wei Ke replied, “I think her behavior is far too vicious. She shouldn’t be allowed to get away with it… cough.”
Noticing the man’s cold gaze, Wei Ke quickly changed his tone, “I think… we should investigate first. Maybe someone is instructing her from behind the scenes.”
In reading people’s expressions, no one was better than him.
Chu Jinhan’s brow lifted almost imperceptibly. His voice carried little emotion as he said, “It should indeed be thoroughly investigated—especially her relationship with that person, Bai Yu.”
“Should we also investigate that doctor? I don’t think the person behind this has much to do with him.”
After he spoke, he noticed Chu Jinhan’s expression turning subtle.
“Oh? It seems you understand him quite well.”
“…I’ll investigate immediately.”
While they were speaking, the phone in Chu Jinhan’s hand kept ringing continuously with notifications.
Wei Ke glanced at it but didn’t dare to remind him. He turned and was about to leave.
After taking a few steps, he heard a voice from behind him.
“Come back.”
Wei Ke returned again. “Mr. Chu, any further instructions?”
Chu Jinhan said, “Don’t disclose anything about Qingcheng.”
Wei Ke paused for a moment, then nodded in understanding. “Alright.”
The sky grew darker and darker, and the last glow of the sunset disappeared beyond the horizon.
The factory staff had already finished work, and crowds of people were pouring down the stairs.
Song Yunfei had been waiting here for over an hour. Her legs had gone numb from squatting, so she stood up and paced back and forth.
As the rush hour passed, fewer and fewer people remained near the stairway.
If she still couldn’t wait for Manager He in five more minutes, she planned to leave.
Just as that thought arose, she spotted Manager He coming down from another staircase.
Manager He spat into his palm, rubbed his hands together, ran his fingers through his sparse hair, adjusted his pants, and then took out his car keys and walked toward his vehicle.
Just as his hand touched the car door handle, he suddenly felt a chill run down his spine—a strange sensation, as if he was being watched by something eerie.
“Manager He.”
His hand trembled.
He forced a bright smile and turned around to look at Song Yunfei. “Ah, Xiao Song. Are you here to see Xiao Chu?”
Song Yunfei nodded. “Mm, where is he?”
“Didn’t he go on a business trip? He didn’t tell you?”
Song Yunfei observed his expression—it didn’t look like he was lying.
Seeing that she seemed unconvinced, Manager He added, “A big client came in a few days ago, right? Xiao Chu had been following up on it. This time, he went to visit the client’s company. He left early this morning.”
Manager He smiled broadly, his eyes full of anticipation for profit, showing no signs of deception.
Because he truly wasn’t lying—this was exactly what Chu Jinhan had told him.
Song Yunfei accepted his explanation. “Oh, then how many days will he be gone?”
Manager He stroked his chin thoughtfully. “Hard to say. Probably won’t take too long.”
She continued asking, “Where did he go for the business trip?”
“Where was it again?” Manager He thought for a while. “Ah, right, I remember now—it’s Yincheng.”
Song Yunfei silently repeated the name in her mind and nodded. “Alright, thank you, Manager He.”
“No problem. By the way, how are things between you and Xiao Chu lately?”
Song Yunfei replied, puzzled, “We’re doing fine. Why do you ask?”
“Just asking casually.” Manager He chuckled, then suddenly changed the subject. “Xiao Song, let me ask you something—tell me privately, is Xiao Chu suffering from amnesia?”
Hearing this, Song Yunfei’s heart skipped a beat.
At this point, just hearing the words “amnesia” made her feel like a startled bird.
“Why do you ask that?”
Manager He said, “Just a feeling. He’s mentioned some things to me before.”
“He told you he had amnesia?”
“Not exactly. He just asked some strange questions.”
Manager He considered his words, then looked at Song Yunfei again. “Has he been in a car accident before?”
