Song Yunfei was stunned. “Register the property under my name?”
Chu Jinhan nodded slightly. “Yes.”
Song Yunfei looked at him suspiciously. Was he buying it with a loan? If he ended up leaving her in debt, that would not do!
As if seeing through her thoughts, Chu Jinhan said, “Don’t worry. It was paid in full.”
Miss Chen nodded. “That’s right, I can confirm it.”
Song Yunfei was momentarily at a loss for words.
Chu Jinhan walked over to her and took her hand. “Let’s go. If in the future you want to live somewhere else, we can just sell it then.”
Song Yunfei let him hold her hand and followed behind him mechanically.
She had always thought that, with their incomes, buying a house was something very far away.
She didn’t expect that in the blink of an eye, he had already bought one.
If the topic of marriage came up again, she seemed to have no excuse left.
After tricking her into being with him, he had now also tricked her into a house.
That was quite something.
Yet she couldn’t refuse him. Based on her understanding of Chu Jinhan, if she were to reject him, he would definitely lose his temper.
All the way through, she was in a daze, not even sure how the procedures were completed.
The sun was bright today, warming everything pleasantly, but Song Yunfei didn’t feel much warmth.
After leaving the service hall, Miss Chen suddenly said, “Miss Song, your boyfriend is really a good man.”
Song Yunfei forced a smile.
Miss Chen glanced back at the man still organizing documents and continued, “He told me over the phone that the two of you are going to get married. Congratulations in advance.”
“Thank you.” Song Yunfei’s smile became even more strained.
Miss Chen seemed a bit puzzled, but didn’t ask further. After a few more polite words, she left.
Not long after, Chu Jinhan also came out.
“Alright, let’s go home.”
Song Yunfei looked at him with a complicated expression. “You… why?”
Chu Jinhan took her hand again and lowered his voice. “I want to give it to you.”
“But you…”
“With the property under your name, you’ll feel more at ease—and so will I. No matter what happens in the future, it can be considered… a form of security.”
Song Yunfei felt a heaviness in her chest, along with a faint bitterness.
Did he also sense something?
He had mentioned before that he had begun to recover some memories. After all this time, had he remembered even more?
Was it that he himself couldn’t guarantee what would happen in the future?
She couldn’t tell whether Chu Jinhan was doing this because of a prior promise, or because he was preparing for the worst.
What troubled her most, more than these unpredictable matters, was the feeling that his words gave her—that once he regained his memory, the current version of him would disappear.
But even so, there was nothing she could do. And neither could he.
They could only be carried along by fate, moving toward an unpredictable direction.
The two of them sat in the car, and the atmosphere suddenly became very quiet.
When they reached the entrance of the residential area, Chu Jinhan stopped the car and turned to look at her. “Yunfei.”
Song Yunfei raised her head. “What is it?”
He looked at her deeply for a long while before finally speaking.
“Let’s go get married.”
Song Yunfei froze. Her fingers subconsciously tightened around the seatbelt. “N-now?”
“Next week. It’s closed today.”
Song Yunfei pressed her lips together and lowered her head, unsure how to respond.
The car fell silent again. Even the air seemed thinner, making it slightly hard to breathe.
Chu Jinhan stared at her for a long time, a hint of darkness flashing in his eyes.
He withdrew his gaze, restarted the car, and drove into the residential area.
“Sorry. We agreed to wait until after the New Year. I shouldn’t have been so hasty. You don’t need to think too much— I was just speaking casually.”
Song Yunfei gripped the seatbelt tightly, her mind also in turmoil.
She could agree, but everything was uncertain right now.
He had lost his memory. If they went ahead and got married like this, it wouldn’t be fair to Chu Jinhan.
Moreover, if he regained his memory and refused to acknowledge this relationship, it would cause her even deeper pain.
Because of an unrealistic hope, binding themselves prematurely would be a kind of harm to both of them.
As if it were just a minor episode, he didn’t bring it up again.
Things continued as usual—going to work and coming back, occasionally eating together, and going out to walk the dog.
Wei Ke waited for over ten days, but he couldn’t wait any longer.
Messages he sent to Mr. Chu went unanswered, and when he tried to find him, he couldn’t see him—Chu Jinhan simply refused to meet him.
That evening, Chu Jinhan had to work overtime again.
Wei Ke waited outside for several hours. It wasn’t until past 2 a.m. that he finally saw the familiar figure walking out of the factory.
Wei Ke quickly got out of the car and ran toward Chu Jinhan, stopping him before he could get in.
“Mr. Chu.”
Chu Jinhan looked at the man in front of him, frowning slightly. “Are you done yet?”
Wei Ke replied helplessly, “Mr. Chu, there are less than two months until the shareholders’ meeting. You must come back with me.”
This time, he had learned his lesson and didn’t dare mention Song Yunfei.
Previously, whenever he brought up Song Yunfei’s name, Mr. Chu wouldn’t even give him a chance to speak.
This time, Chu Jinhan finally didn’t turn and leave immediately.
He looked quietly at Wei Ke. Compared to Wei Ke’s anxiety, he appeared calm and composed.
“Given my current situation, even if I attend the shareholders’ meeting you mentioned, what use would it be?”
“Th-this…” Wei Ke frowned as well. It was indeed a difficult problem.
With his current lack of memory, even if he returned, his chances of success wouldn’t be high.
Chu Jinhan didn’t waste any more time. He turned and was about to get into the car.
At that moment, a blinding beam of light suddenly shot toward them. Both instinctively raised their hands to block it.
From the corner of his eye, Chu Jinhan saw a car charging straight toward them.
His pupils constricted sharply. A wave of heat rushed toward them, carrying the smell of burning, while countless fragmented images surged into his mind.
Somewhere in his brain, as if triggered by that intense light, something exploded. Time seemed to stretch—each frame slowed down drastically, and overwhelming images flooded in like a tidal wave, engulfing him completely.
“Mr. Chu!”
Wei Ke, horrified to see him standing frozen in place, didn’t have time to think and lunged toward him.
Both of them were thrown to the ground beside the greenbelt near the outer wall of the compound.
At the same time, a loud crash exploded in the middle of the night.
The car slammed into the exact spot where they had been standing, even knocking over a streetlight.
The front of the car was crushed inward, the hood lifted, and white smoke mixed with a burnt smell hissed out.
Wei Ke ignored the car and struggled up, supporting Chu Jinhan. “Mr. Chu, are you alright?!”
Chu Jinhan’s face was extremely pale. His chest rose and fell violently. The hand supporting himself on the ground had clenched so tightly that his knuckles turned white, and cold sweat continued to pour from his forehead.
“Mr. Chu…”
Chu Jinhan panted heavily. From the corner of his eye, he saw someone stepping out of the car. He tried to stand, but his strength gave out and he fell back down.
“Liu… Mao… Cai.”
He forced out those three words through clenched teeth. In the next moment, his mind was again overwhelmed by the surging images, and he shut his eyes in pain.
Hearing this, Wei Ke also turned to look.
Sure enough, a fat man stepped out of the car, holding a fruit knife in his hand, wearing a look of venomous hatred as he slowly approached the two of them.
