Song Yunfei took a lot more photos before finally returning to the town reluctantly.
The two of them casually found a restaurant to eat at. As expected, tourist spots are not distinguished by size—the food was quite average.
But since it wasn’t expensive, Song Yunfei didn’t mind.
Chu Jinhan took out his phone, ready to pay.
After looking at it, he silently put it down again. “It’s out of battery.”
“I’ll do it. Didn’t you charge it last night?” Song Yunfei took out her phone and paid.
Chu Jinhan said, “The battery ran out while I was recording videos just now.”
Song Yunfei was surprised. “How long did you record?”
“Over two hours.”
Song Yunfei froze—over two hours!
How long would it take her to select photos when they got back??
In the afternoon, the two of them walked around the town once more. There wasn’t much to do—the buildings were just relatively retro-looking—so they took a few photos and then returned.
Chu Jinhan sent her the videos, and she lay on the bed watching them.
Whenever she saw a decent shot, she would take a screenshot, planning to edit them later—it wouldn’t be a problem.
Chu Jinhan sat beside her, holding his phone and doing something.
Occasionally, she would complain beside him—“This angle would’ve been better… why is this so ugly… I can’t find a single good one.”
Whenever she saw something especially ugly, she would even reach out and smack him.
Watching over two hours of video made her dizzy.
After a long while without hearing any movement, Chu Jinhan turned his head and realized she had fallen asleep.
One hand still holding her phone, the other arm casually resting by her pillow.
Because she was lying face down on the pillow, her mouth looked slightly crooked, and one eye showed a gap where the whites were visible.
Chu Jinhan opened the camera and took a photo.
When she woke up, it was already midnight.
She hadn’t eaten dinner and woke up from hunger.
Her memory was still stuck at the part where she was selecting photos. When she opened her eyes, the room was already dark.
Feeling the warmth of the embrace, the uneasiness brought by the darkness quickly faded.
She turned over and hugged the man beside her, burying her head deeper into his chest, preparing to go back to sleep.
Being hungry in the middle of the night was normal—she could just endure it and it would pass.
“Are you hungry?”
Chu Jinhan’s voice suddenly came from above her head, startling Song Yunfei.
“You weren’t asleep?” she asked.
“I woke up.”
“You woke up hungry too?”
In the darkness, she sensed him shifting closer, his breath brushing against her face.
“Yes, I woke up hungry.”
His voice was soft, carrying an indescribable intimacy. As he spoke, their lips brushed together.
The way he said “hungry” didn’t quite sound like he meant it in the usual sense.
Before Song Yunfei could respond, he had already captured her lips.
After a light, lingering kiss, he finally spoke again, “Want a late-night snack?”
Song Yunfei was still a bit dazed, but she cautiously asked, “Is it a proper late-night snack?”
“Do you want a proper one or an improper one?”
“…Of course a proper one!”
A few minutes later.
The two of them got dressed properly and walked out of the guesthouse.
It was around two in the morning, and most shops were already closed.
They leaned close together as they walked through the snowy night. After searching for a while, they finally found a barbecue shop that was still open—and it looked like it was about to close.
They made it inside just in time. Not wanting to delay the owner from closing up, they decided to pack the food and take it back to eat.
The two of them sat at the table. After eating two skewers, Song Yunfei looked up in surprise.
It was the first time she had seen someone eat barbecue by not directly biting the skewers, but instead taking everything off into a bowl and eating it.
What he ate wasn’t even meat—it was all vegetables.
“You eat like this?” she asked.
Chu Jinhan looked up at her. “What’s wrong?”
Song Yunfei could only give him a thumbs-up. “So elegant.”
For a moment, Chu Jinhan couldn’t tell whether she was praising him or being sarcastic.
“Can’t it be eaten like this?”
“No, it can. I just… sigh… never mind, let’s eat.” Song Yunfei sighed. Sitting with him always gave her the feeling of a wild boar rooting into cabbage.
Yes, she was the wild boar.
If it weren’t for sheer luck, she would never have had the chance in her life to sit and eat barbecue with someone like him.
Two days passed in the blink of an eye. They stayed up late, and didn’t wake up until eleven the next day.
After having a meal, it was about time to head back. Before leaving, Song Yunfei went to take one last look at the snowman they had built.
It was still standing there obediently, now covered with a bit more accumulated snow.
Looking at that snowman, she felt her dream of building one had been fulfilled.
Seeing her reluctance to leave, Chu Jinhan said, “Let’s go. We can come again next weekend when we’re off.”
Song Yunfei turned to look at him.
“Once is enough. It’s not actually that fun.”
She turned around and walked toward where the car was parked, sighing as she said, “I’ve always wanted to build a snowman since I was little, and I kept thinking about it. Now that I’ve done it, it doesn’t seem that special after all.”
“That means you don’t truly like it.”
Song Yunfei paused. “What do you mean?”
Chu Jinhan also stopped and looked at her. “True liking means still cherishing something after you’ve obtained it. Just like how you like money—you don’t feel it’s ‘just so-so’ after getting it. Instead, you only feel you don’t have enough.”
Song Yunfei stared at him blankly.
Under the faint sunlight, it seemed as if a layer of pale golden light outlined his figure.
After a while, Song Yunfei nodded very seriously. “That makes a lot of sense.”
Compared like that, it suddenly became much clearer.
She felt a slight stir in her heart, tilted her head, and asked with a smile, “Then do you have something you like the most? Is it also money?”
Chu Jinhan paused. His gaze lingered on her face for two seconds before slowly shifting away. “Money is a tool, not a goal.”
“What?” Song Yunfei still didn’t understand.
Do cultured people always like speaking in riddles?
She was about to ask more, but Chu Jinhan had already ended the topic. “Let’s go. If we don’t leave now, it’ll be dark.”
Song Yunfei pouted and quickly followed him.
After nearly six hours of driving, they returned home at nightfall.
Sitting in a car was truly exhausting—once they got home, all they wanted to do was sleep.
“I don’t want to eat tonight. I’m so sleepy. I’m going to shower and sleep—don’t call me for dinner.”
Song Yunfei waved weakly and walked toward the bathroom.
Chu Jinhan sat on the sofa and took out his phone. Before he even unlocked it, it rang.
It was Manager He again.
After a brief pause, he answered, “Manager He.”
Manager He said cheerfully, “Where are you? Come out quickly—there’s a big client here who specifically asked to see you.”
“What’s the client’s name?”
“He said his surname is Wei. Anyway, come quickly—I’ll send you the address. Hurry, don’t keep the client waiting too long.”
“Alright.”
Chu Jinhan hung up and glanced toward the bathroom.
Song Yunfei had just gone in and wouldn’t be out for a while. He stood up, sent her a message on his phone, and then left straight away.
When Song Yunfei saw the message, it was already half an hour later.
“Going out so late?” she muttered. It seemed Manager He really was treating him like a workhorse.
