Chu Jinhan fell into deep thought for a long time.

Under Manager He’s expectant gaze, he finally spoke, “I have a friend.”

As soon as the words came out, Manager He laughed.

Chu Jinhan looked at him. Manager He immediately stopped laughing, put on a serious expression, and nodded. “So, you have a friend—what about it?”

He lit a cigarette, leaned back in his chair, and said, “Don’t rush. Take your time and explain. Trust me—I’m experienced.”

“I need to get back to work.”

Chu Jinhan stood up and prepared to leave.

Manager He quickly grabbed him again. “Hey, sit down! Hurry up and tell me what’s going on with your friend. Otherwise you’ve been distracted all day worrying about your friend—you’ll delay my work.”

Chu Jinhan sat back down.

Perhaps it was because Manager He’s expression was too sincere, or perhaps he truly didn’t know what to do.

After a moment of silence, Chu Jinhan slowly began to speak.

Manager He listened, completely stunned, as if he were hearing some kind of science fiction story.

After a long while, Manager He let out a drawn-out “oh.”

“So you’re saying… your friend was hit and lost their memory, and the person who hit them hid the truth and even started a relationship with your friend?”

Chu Jinhan didn’t respond—his silence was taken as confirmation.

“Hiss…” Manager He scratched his thinning hair, feeling his scalp itch. “Th-this… isn’t this illegal?”

“What should my friend do?”

Manager He slapped the table, looking frustrated at his lack of progress. “Report her! What else can you do? Is your friend an idiot?”

“Think about it—if your friend were a woman, and a man hit her into amnesia, didn’t take her to the hospital, instead hid her away and even had two children with her—how terrifying would that be?”

The more he spoke, the angrier he became. “That’s basically human trafficking! And your friend—don’t tell me they’ve got something like that Stockholm syndrome?”

“……”

“I’m going back to work.”

This time, Manager He didn’t stop him. Instead, he called after his retreating figure, “Hey! Remember to tell your friend not to romanticize crime!”

After Chu Jinhan left, Manager He stroked his chin and muttered to himself, “Could it really be this kid?”

Thinking carefully, given his outstanding abilities—and the fact that every time he was asked something he claimed not to know, yet always delivered astonishing results—Manager He had always assumed he was just pretending.

But maybe… he had really lost his memory.

In the afternoon.

Song Yunfei finished her day of studying and glanced at the time in the lower right corner of the screen—it was almost 7 p.m.

She then looked toward the door. By now, he should have already been back.

After thinking for a moment, she sent Chu Jinhan a message.

He replied, saying he had to work overtime and wouldn’t get off work until at least 10:30 p.m.

So it really was overtime again.

Song Yunfei felt a bit doubtful. She picked up her phone and dialed a long-unused number—the front desk of Chu Jinhan’s company.

The receptionist instinctively tensed up upon hearing her voice.

But after hearing that she was only asking about overtime conditions, she relaxed.

The receptionist told her that the factory was rushing orders—workshop staff had to work until 10:30 p.m., and warehouse staff were even working until 2 or 3 a.m.

Hearing this, Song Yunfei finally felt slightly reassured.

If they were handling shipments, he would likely be overseeing things as well, so working until 2 or 3 a.m. seemed normal.

She herself was in the same position—unsure of what to do.

Her plan was to take things slowly over the next three months. Maybe she would come up with a good solution in that time.

In any case, no matter what, by the time the shareholders’ meeting at the end of the year arrived, she would have to tell him something—whether she had figured it out or not.

When she went downstairs to walk the dog, she noticed that the electric scooter was still parked downstairs. Chu Jinhan hadn’t ridden it to work.

After walking Quanquan and taking it back to bathe, it was already around 10:30 p.m.

Song Yunfei took her car keys and left the house.

Chu Jinhan stayed in the office until eleven, then went to the warehouse. There were several batches of goods to be shipped in the past few days, and it was not uncommon for the warehouse to work overtime until dawn.

Unluckily, today was one of those days. There were too many goods, and they kept working until five in the morning before the logistics truck slowly departed.

The factory workers gradually clocked out, each of them exhausted and listless.

As they walked out of the industrial park, many people glanced in that direction.

Chu Jinhan subconsciously looked over as well.

Then he saw that familiar small pink electric scooter—with someone sitting on it. More accurately, someone was lying on it.

The person was sitting on the scooter seat, a jacket covering their head, their entire body slumped over the handlebars.

Chu Jinhan paused slightly.

At 5:30 a.m., the sky was a hazy gray-blue, and the streetlights were still on, though their glow had already dimmed.

That pink electric scooter stood alone in the shadows.

An indescribable emotion surged within him.

He stood there for a few seconds, then stepped forward toward that direction.

She was lying on the scooter’s handlebars, a light yellow jacket covering her head and upper body completely, with a few strands of hair slipping out.

The jacket was short, revealing her off-white knit sweater underneath, along with a glimpse of her waist. She wore blue jeans on her lower body and a pair of fluffy slippers on her feet.

Chu Jinhan stood beside her, silently watching.

The night wind blew through, carrying the chill of a late autumn dawn, lifting the hem of her jacket and tousling the loose strands of her hair.

Perhaps feeling cold, she buried her face deeper into her arms. Even the strands of hair that had been exposed were pulled back under the jacket by her movement.

Chu Jinhan reached out and pulled the key out of the electric scooter.

Only then did he reach out and tap her jacket.

“Song Yunfei.”

Song Yunfei moved her fingers, grabbing the edge of the jacket and pressing it down under her arm.

“Song Yunfei, wake up.”

He raised his voice slightly, and she finally stirred.

She lifted her head in confusion. The jacket slid off her head, revealing a sleepy face.

Her hair was messy, and there were several marks on her forehead from where she had been resting.

“Ah… what time is it?”

Seeing Chu Jinhan beside her, she finally realized she had come here to pick him up.

She pushed her hair aside and smiled. “You’re off work?”

“Why are you here?”

“I saw you didn’t ride your scooter. I was worried you’d end up working overtime like last night and couldn’t get a ride home. Since I had nothing to do anyway, I came to wait for you… but I accidentally fell asleep.”

Chu Jinhan looked at her, momentarily speechless.

Song Yunfei took out her phone and checked the time, exclaiming, “Oh my god, it’s almost six already. Perfect—I can grab breakfast and then go back to sleep.”

“How long have you been waiting here?”

Song Yunfei thought for a moment and let out a couple of awkward laughs. “I don’t remember… I was half asleep.”

Chu Jinhan quietly looked at her.

The night wind swirled fallen leaves across the ground, spinning them past their feet.

Song Yunfei shivered slightly and put her jacket on properly.

The next moment, she felt a slight weight on her shoulders. Turning around, she realized that Chu Jinhan had draped his own jacket over her.

“Don’t do this next time. It’s not safe.”

This time, it was Song Yunfei who stared at him in a daze.

Hearing his familiar tone, she broke into a big smile.

She looked a little silly, with strands of hair fluttering wildly in the wind, yet there was also a hint of… relief.
