Chu Jinhan turned and walked away.
Wang Qiang was left standing there alone, looking at the man’s departing figure in confusion. He muttered to himself, “What’s going on?”
On the other side.
As soon as the stock market opened in the morning, Liu Maocai was already staring at the candlestick charts on his computer.
In recent days, he had become completely addicted to stock trading. He no longer went out for foot massages, didn’t go looking for trouble, and didn’t even care about his girlfriends anymore.
Every day, he just sat there watching the stocks.
His wife passed by the study and saw him staring at the market again. When she noticed the green glow on his face, her brows furrowed slightly.
A hint of hesitation flashed across her beautiful face, but it quickly disappeared.
She hurried downstairs, went out to the car, took out her phone, scrolled to a number, and made a call.
After a while, the call connected. She spoke in a low voice, “What you said before… about helping me transfer his money out—was that true? What do I need to do?”
After running around all day, Song Yunfei returned home after work and sat down in front of the computer.
She instinctively opened the backend to take a look.
Seeing that someone had made an inquiry, she immediately straightened up and perked herself up to respond.
Ever since she posted her services online, quite a few people had inquired, but almost no one actually placed orders.
She was already used to it, but still chatted with the other party seriously.
It was a small one-bedroom apartment, and the client was a woman who had bought the place for herself.
Song Yunfei looked at the photos sent by the client and discussed some details.
Unexpectedly, the other party placed the order quite readily. Although it was only for a render, Song Yunfei still showed a smile on her otherwise numb face.
Even a thousand yuan was money.
The client soon sent over the floor plan. After thinking about it for a while, Song Yunfei suddenly remembered that she would be leaving in two days. She wouldn’t be able to take the computer with her, and began to worry.
Hearing the sound of the door opening outside, she quickly closed the website and opened a preloaded video player. The sound of a TV drama came from the computer.
Chu Jinhan was still carrying groceries in his hands. Song Yunfei stood up to take them. “Give them to me.”
Originally, she had planned to buy groceries after work, but Chu Jinhan said it was too far for her to go, and since it was on his way home, he could bring them back directly.
The electric scooter was also with him, so Song Yunfei let him handle it.
After dinner, the two of them took Quanquan for a walk outside.
There were many people on the sidewalk; now that the weather wasn’t hot anymore, more people had come out for evening walks.
Streetlights intertwined over the two of them, and a breeze passed by, scattering fallen leaves from the roadside trees.
A leaf landed on Song Yunfei’s head.
Chu Jinhan raised his hand and removed it from her head.
Looking at the yellowing leaf in his hand, Song Yunfei couldn’t help but sigh, “Time really flies.”
Chu Jinhan followed her gaze and looked at the leaf between his fingers.
The dim streetlight filtered through the sparse branches, casting mottled shadows on the ground and giving his side profile a soft glow.
He responded quietly, “Yes.”
While the two were momentarily distracted, Quanquan slipped out of the leash in his hand and rushed toward the swirling leaves in the distance.
“Ah!”
Song Yunfei snapped back to reality and chased after Quanquan.
However, the little one thought she was playing with it. Seeing her chase, it ran even faster on all fours toward the distance.
Song Yunfei chased for a while, then ran out of breath and had to rest against a tree trunk, panting.
The dog had really grown up—it was too fast to catch now.
However, after she stopped, Quanquan ran back wagging its tail, jumping around in front of her.
Song Yunfei felt like it was provoking her.
Taking advantage of the dog’s distraction, she suddenly bent down and grabbed the leash.
Quanquan was startled as well, turned around and ran, and Song Yunfei was pulled forward, stumbling slightly.
A large hand reached out in time and steadied her arm.
Song Yunfei regained her balance and turned to look at the man beside her, smiling. “I’m fine. It’s not big enough to make me fall.”
Under the streetlight, Chu Jinhan stared at her bright, sparkling eyes for a moment, slightly lost in thought.
Song Yunfei suddenly sniffed. “Huh?”
She turned her head, following the scent, and not far away she saw a roasted sweet potato stall by the roadside.
Pointing at it, she said, “I want a roasted sweet potato. Let’s go buy one.”
Chu Jinhan nodded slightly, walked ahead, and quickly bought one.
He peeled off the charred skin, revealing the golden flesh inside, and handed it to her. “Here.”
Song Yunfei was touched and took it from him. “Why did you only buy one? Aren’t you going to eat?”
“You eat.”
Song Yunfei didn’t stand on ceremony. Holding the paper-wrapped end, she took a bite.
“It’s been a long time since I had this. It tastes so familiar.” She took another bite, satisfied.
Chu Jinhan took out his phone and snapped a photo of her again.
Song Yunfei quickly raised a hand to cover her face. “You’re taking pictures of me again!”
Since she was holding the leash with that hand, when she raised it, Quanquan was pulled upright by the leash and could only cling to her leg, whining in protest.
“Recording life,” Chu Jinhan replied, using her own words against her.
Song Yunfei said unhappily, “Your photography skills are terrible. Stop taking pictures!”
Seeing her puffed-up, annoyed expression, Chu Jinhan paused for a moment, then put away his phone and took the leash from her, freeing Quanquan.
Seeing that he was being cooperative, Song Yunfei didn’t argue further.
She handed him the sweet potato. “Try it too. You’ve probably never had it.”
Chu Jinhan lowered his eyes, looked at the spot she had bitten, then slowly leaned down and took a bite.
Song Yunfei froze slightly and said a bit embarrassedly, “You should’ve bitten the other side…”
“What’s the difference?” he asked.
“I already bit it.”
“Haven’t we already kissed?”
“…”
Song Yunfei was momentarily speechless.
She quickly changed the subject. “Is it sweet?”
Chu Jinhan looked at her without blinking. Suddenly, he raised his hand, his thumb gently brushing the corner of her mouth, wiping away the sweet potato residue.
“Sweet.”
For a moment, Song Yunfei couldn’t tell whether he was referring to the sweet potato or something else. Being stared at like that made her feel very uneasy.
“Oh right, I’ve already decided. I’ll leave in two days.”
His finger, which was wiping the corner of her mouth, paused. His expression remained unchanged, but in his deep eyes, only silent attention remained.
