It was the first time Tang Zhen had seen Ren Yanjing truly drunk.
She deliberately teased him, “Ren Yanjing, you just said you like me, and now you don’t even remember my name.”
Ren Yanjing rubbed his temples. “Sorry, I’m really drunk.”
Tang Zhen acted playfully unreasonable. “Being drunk is your excuse to forget me?”
Ren Yanjing always admitted his mistakes quickly. “It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have drunk so much.”
His apology was so sincere that Tang Zhen didn’t have the heart to say anything further.
Actually, he hadn’t drunk much at all—just a glass of champagne. On any normal day, it wouldn’t have made him drunk.
Ren Yanjing got up and went to the bathroom to wash his face, hoping to sober up. But even after washing, he still felt the dizziness that comes after drinking. How much had he actually drunk today?
As soon as Ren Yanjing came out after washing his face, there was a knock at the door.
Tang Zhen ran over to open it and saw a large group of people standing outside.
Zhang Mian explained, “Sister-in-law, the staff came to deliver some hangover medicine.”
Tang Zhen opened the door to let them in.
Outside, apart from a few from Future, there were also people from Star and Fate.
Shen Qi crossed his arms and sneered, “Ren Yanjing, just how bad is your alcohol tolerance?”
Could he be trying to show off in front of the organizers?
But no, that didn’t fit—Ren Yanjing wasn’t that kind of person.
He walked over to Li Ran and nudged her with his shoulder. “Ren Yanjing seems off today.”
Like Zhang Mian and the others, he didn’t believe Ren Yanjing could get drunk so easily.
Of course, they didn’t know that Ren Yanjing’s drunkenness was purely for the sake of the situation, so they could only guess wildly.
Shen Qi clicked his tongue and whispered to Li Ran, “Did you drug him?”
Li Ran gave him a look of disbelief. “What are you thinking?”
Although she had liked Ren Yanjing for many years, there were things she would do, and things she would never do.
Shen Qi couldn’t help confirming, “So you didn’t, right?”
Li Ran: “Of course not!”
Shen Qi gave a small “oh.”
The staff handed the hangover medicine to Ren Yanjing and then smiled, gesturing toward the people at the door. “They all care about you.”
The Future team captain was well-liked, after all.
Even though it was just drunkenness, the teammates had stayed outside the whole time, and even competitors came to check on him.
Regardless of their motives, at least everyone had shown up and crowded outside.
Ren Yanjing lifted his eyes and met the gaze of several people standing by the door: Zhang Mian, Shen Quanli, Shen Qi, and Li Ran—all four squeezed into that spot.
With a “since we’re here, we might as well greet him” mindset, Li Ran offered a casual greeting. “Ren Yanjing, how are you?”
Ren Yanjing replied just as calmly, “I’m okay.”
After the staff finished delivering the hangover medicine and saw that Ren Yanjing was doing fine, they finally relaxed.
Once they left, Shen Quanli and Zhang Mian couldn’t help but walk in. Shen Quanli closed the door. “Captain, are you feeling better after drinking?”
Ren Yanjing: “No.”
“Then take the hangover medicine first.”
When Ren Yanjing took out the medicine, he didn’t hold it steadily, and it fell to the ground—just under Shen Quanli’s foot.
The sharp-tongued little bird couldn’t help jumping up. “Idiot! You’re the absolute dumbest! No one’s dumber than you!”
Shen Quanli apologized flusteredly. “Sorry, Captain, I didn’t do it on purpose.”
“I know.”
The staff handed him another piece of hangover medicine. Since there wasn’t any more, Shen Quanli was about to get another one, but Ren Yanjing said it was fine.
Having done nothing helpful and instead causing trouble, Shen Quanli didn’t feel comfortable staying in the room and dragged Zhang Mian back to the door.
Once again, only Tang Zhen and Ren Yanjing were left in the room.
Tang Zhen leaned closer and curiously asked, “Do you remember that girl from just now?”
Ren Yanjing shook his head. “I don’t remember.”
Tang Zhen continued, “Then what about your feelings toward her?”
Ren Yanjing answered decisively, “I don’t like her.”
Tang Zhen let him lie back on the bed while she sat on the edge, tilting her head to look at him. “She’s like you—a top student.”
Ren Yanjing: “Hm?”
Tang Zhen continued, “I’m a bad student. Calculus, robotics… I don’t understand any of it.”
Ren Yanjing asked, “Do you want to see the process of developing a robot?”
Tang Zhen nodded. “I do.”
“Next time I make a robot, you can watch from the side and see how I do it.”
Tang Zhen asked curiously, “Won’t it affect you?”
“No, it won’t affect me.” He continued, “Do you have a favorite type of robot design?”
Tang Zhen’s eyes lit up immediately. “I like cats!”
“Anything else?”
Tang Zhen couldn’t help asking, “Don’t you want to make a cat robot?”
“Not really.”
Tang Zhen pressed further, “Why not?”
Ren Yanjing didn’t answer. Probably because there was a voice in his heart reminding him that he already had his cat.
Tang Zhen started to wonder again. “Ren Yanjing, are you really drunk, or just pretending?”
Ren Yanjing chuckled. “Really drunk.” Then he couldn’t help asking, “Have I ever lied to you before?”
Lied to her? That probably hadn’t happened.
Tang Zhen asked 111, “Santiao, has the male lead ever lied to me?”
111 recalled for a moment, then replied confidently, 【Zhen, never.】
Tang Zhen: “Never.”
Ren Yanjing continued, “And what about the promises I made—have I ever broken them?”
Tang Zhen blinked. “Seems like… never.”
“Since none of that has happened, then you can try trusting me a little more. In the future, you can ask me directly if I’m drunk, and I’ll answer you.”
Tang Zhen said softly, blinking her beautiful eyes sincerely, “I remember now.”
Last time, she hadn’t asked Ren Yanjing himself whether he was drunk.
Now she asked, and he answered.
Next time, she would ask him directly.
Tang Zhen glanced at the time. Unconsciously, it was almost midnight. She asked Ren Yanjing, “Aren’t you going to sleep?”
“I don’t want to sleep yet.”
Tang Zhen was puzzled. Don’t drunk people just want to pass out?
“Baby.”
Tang Zhen made a small sound, almost instinctively.
“What did I say last time I was drunk?”
Tang Zhen was slightly stunned.
Last time, after getting drunk, Ren Yanjing had asked her in Cantonese if they could get back together.
Now he wanted to say something again?
Tang Zhen slightly turned her face away. “I don’t remember.”
While brushing him off, she asked 111, “Santiao, why hasn’t Ren Yanjing sobered up yet?”
111 remained silent.
The male lead was neither in the same room nor with the female lead, so he would probably stay drunk for a while longer.
Tang Zhen blinked at Ren Yanjing. “Why are you asking this?”
Ren Yanjing, slightly tipsy, felt his thoughts and memories a little mixed, but his logic and reasoning were still intact. He said slowly, “Because I have something I want to tell you. I don’t want to repeat myself.”
Tang Zhen pressed her lips together. “It’s okay. You can say it now if you want.”
Ren Yanjing looked at her and suddenly broke into a smile.
In the dimly lit room, his smile made everything feel different, unique.
He said, “Baby, I really like you.”
No matter if he still remembered her, no matter how confused his memories were at this moment, no matter how many times he had met her—
He really liked her.
