Luo Sheng changed his shoes, and when he reached for the blue slippers next to the little pink ones, his hand paused slightly.
Just as he was about to enter the living room, a pink blur came charging at him. Yinyin dashed toward him at lightning speed, her little legs moving like wind-up wheels. She barreled forward and threw her arms around his leg.
She clung to his long leg, her little face flushed with excitement. Looking up at him with sparkling eyes, she shouted in delight, “Daddy, you’re finally back!”
The young Yinyin was so overwhelmed with joy that her little mouth chattered nonstop. She told him how she had waited outside his house all morning and how it was a kind uncle from Daddy’s house who had brought her in…
Luo Sheng just listened. He wasn’t the patient type—especially not with soft, dough-like little kids.
With a big hand, he grabbed Yinyin and tried to peel the clingy little troublemaker off his leg. But Yinyin wouldn’t let go no matter what. Instead, she took the initiative and accused him, “Daddy’s mean! Yinyin waited sooo long for you!”
While saying this, she even managed to let go of his leg for a second to spread her arms wide in a big circle. “This long!”
Luo Sheng: “…”
Yinyin was so excited that when she let go, she accidentally got flung aside. She immediately scrambled after him. “Daddy, wait for me!”
Luo Sheng dug a finger in his ear. Meanwhile, Mr. and Mrs. Luo were sitting calmly on the sofa, watching him as if they were looking at some heinous criminal.
Mrs. Luo was the first to speak. “Where were you yesterday? Only just coming back now?”
Luo Sheng shrugged and flopped onto the single-seater at the edge. One long leg casually draped over the other, his whole demeanor lazy and a bit roguish—infuriating Mrs. Luo just by looking at him.
The little pudding-sized Yinyin looked left and right, her tiny face scrunched up in thought. Then she raised her little hand to defend her father: “I know! Daddy went to my house yesterday!”
Her little mouth moved quickly, waving her hands anxiously. “Daddy was very good! He didn’t do anything bad!”
Mr. and Mrs. Luo: “…”
They saw how she was more anxious than the person involved, her little face red with worry, her big round eyes full of pleading. It was impossible not to tease her. So they deliberately put on serious expressions and said, “Oh really?”
She nodded like a bobblehead. “Daddy is super good! Super good! He wouldn’t do bad things!”
The uncle and aunt didn’t believe her. Even the System Uncle didn’t believe in Daddy. Every time she thought of that, Yinyin felt sad. Her daddy was so great—why didn’t anyone believe in him?
Seeing that she was on the verge of crying, Mrs. Luo coughed lightly and said, “Okay, okay, we believe you!” She glanced at her thoughtless son, swallowed the insult on the tip of her tongue, and awkwardly coaxed, “Daddy is… a good kid, just like Yinyin.”
Mr. Luo got goosebumps and couldn’t help rubbing his arms. His son had been out of control since he was a child—if that brat was “good,” then the sun could rise from the west!
Luo Sheng shifted his posture, resting one arm on the armrest of the sofa.
Yinyin, hearing Mrs. Luo’s words, broke into a sweet smile and declared confidently, “Daddy is the best!”
Mrs. Luo signaled the housekeeper to take Yinyin away and coaxed her, saying she could go check out Daddy’s room. Yinyin’s eyes lit up—Daddy’s room!
Once the little whirlwind was gone, the living room fell quiet again.
Mr. Luo glared at his son. “What’s going on with Yinyin?”
“When did you get involved with someone to have a kid?”
Luo Sheng was completely unfazed by his father’s accusatory look. He smirked slightly, wanting to say that the brat had nothing to do with him. But then an image popped into his mind—Yinyin clinging to his leg, looking up at him with those wide, adoring eyes.
He paused. “…She’s not mine.”
Mr. and Mrs. Luo didn’t believe it. Anyone could see how attached and dependent the girl was on their son. How could she be that close without being biologically related? But then again, their son’s attitude toward her was cold and detached—he didn’t act like a father at all.
Mrs. Luo reproached him. “I don’t care what you do outside, but if Yinyin really is your child, you better acknowledge her right now. Our house is so empty—having a kid around might be a good thing. You don’t have to do anything; I’ll raise her for you.”
“And show her some kindness. Look at you—do you look like a father at all?”
Her thoughts spiraled as she continued, “If there’s a child, then what about the mother? Bring her home when you get a chance so we can meet her.”
Luo Sheng: “…”
He rubbed his temples. “She’s not mine!”
Mrs. Luo was just about to argue. If she wasn’t his, then whose child was she? Didn’t you see how close Yinyin was to him? Closer than if they were blood relatives!
Before she could get the words out, the maid came in, leading a middle-aged woman.
“Sir, Ma’am, this is Aunt Zhang from the Bai family in our neighborhood. She says their young miss is here and wants to take her home for lunch.”
Zhang Yue stepped forward and greeted everyone politely. “Mr. and Mrs. Luo, Young Master Luo, is our Yinyin here?”
She smiled apologetically. “This morning, Miss Yinyin insisted on coming here to play with Young Master Luo and wouldn’t let me follow. It’s about time for lunch now…” She looked around, not seeing her young lady, and asked uncertainly, “She’s not here?”
Panic crept into her chest. She should never have caved to the child’s tears and spoiled begging. Now she deeply regretted bringing her out. Yinyin was just a tiny little thing, and when she cried, Zhang Yue’s heart always went soft.
The Bai house was five or six doors down from the Luo’s, and though that didn’t sound far, in a top-tier villa neighborhood where every home came with a huge yard, it was still quite a distance.
Seeing how worried Zhang Yue looked, Mrs. Luo chuckled and said, “Don’t worry. Yinyin is upstairs.”
“She’s in her dad’s—our Luo Sheng’s room.”
She turned and asked a maid to call the child down.
Luo Sheng stood up. “I’ll go.”
The bedroom was in shades of gray and white, spacious and bright, with very little furniture—a minimalist, cold aesthetic that didn’t match its owner’s flamboyant personality. But the moment Yinyin saw it, she knew: this was Daddy’s room!
She sniffed the air with her little nose and squealed with excitement. The maid who brought her up had already left, and she cheered as she ran toward the big bed, throwing herself onto it. She was too short to climb up, so she just buried her face in the covers. Even like that, Yinyin was completely satisfied.
Lying in Daddy’s bedding, she was overcome with happiness and shouted, “System Uncle, Daddy is still Daddy after all!”
The system huffed in reply, too lazy to acknowledge the world’s number-one daddy fangirl. She looked so intoxicated with joy—it was unbearable!
It had been so, so long since she’d seen Daddy. She had searched so long. She had nearly starved, until System Uncle came from the sky and said he could help her find her father—on one condition: she had to stop him from doing bad things.
Yinyin and the system had argued endlessly about whether Daddy would ever do bad things. Even though the system had saved her, she refused to back down on that point.
Now she had finally found Daddy—and she was playing in his room, surrounded by his scent. Her little heart felt completely fulfilled.
After a while, she looked around. Daddy’s room was on the third floor, and the whole floor was empty—no one else around.
She grinned secretly and carefully climbed up onto Daddy’s bed using all four limbs…
When Luo Sheng entered, he saw a little lump rolling around on the bed. It wiggled back and forth, and he could even hear a childish little voice singing from under the covers.
Without any formal training, her singing was off-key, and the song was something she’d picked up from the TV—a catchy dance tune popular in public squares.
In her tiny, innocent voice, she hummed, even rewriting the lyrics when she got excited: “You are my da-da-da-daddy, can’t love you too much! Your red little face warms my tiny heart!”
Luo Sheng: “…”
His eyelid twitched. He strode over and yanked the self-entertaining Yinyin out from under the covers.
Held up by the back of her shirt, Yinyin looked bewildered, her face instantly turning red. She stammered, “D-daddy, I didn’t mean to mess up your bed…”
She was carried downstairs just like that.
Mr. and Mrs. Luo watched as their son unceremoniously handed the child over to the Bai family’s nanny and said coldly, “Send her back.”
No one saw the faint blush at the tips of his ears—they only saw his irritated expression. Yinyin was startled and burst into tears.
Daddy scolded her! Daddy was so mean!
Zhang Yue felt heartbroken and embarrassed. She looked at Luo Sheng apologetically. “I’m so sorry, Young Master Luo. Our Yinyin has been through a lot at such a young age. She probably just found you kind and familiar. I hope we haven’t caused too much trouble.”
Seeing the child cry harder and harder, her heart felt like it was being torn apart.
Mr. and Mrs. Bai had always been kind and respectful—even to servants—never putting on airs, and were deeply beloved.
Zhang Yue was divorced, with a daughter still in school. Back then, she’d been kicked out by her ex-husband’s family with nothing but a few hundred yuan and nowhere to go. Her daughter had just gotten into college, and she couldn’t even afford the tuition.
Luckily, she met Mrs. Bai, who offered her a job that included food and shelter—and enough to support her daughter through school. Zhang Yue had always been grateful.
When she joined the Bai household, Mrs. Bai had just gotten pregnant and gave birth to Miss Yinyin at the end of the year.
She’d watched Yinyin grow from a baby who couldn’t speak into the clever, sweet girl she was now.
That’s why, even after the tragedy that befell the Bai family and other servants left or slacked off, she had stayed out of concern for the child’s future.
Afraid of offending the Luo family, she carefully explained, then turned to coax the crying child. “Miss Yinyin, let’s go home now. Auntie Zhang made your favorite food.”
Yinyin’s little nose was red from crying, her big round eyes glistening with tears. Zhang Yue nodded politely to Mr. and Mrs. Luo, picked up the child, and left.
Luo Sheng looked over instinctively. He saw Yinyin bury her face in the nanny’s shoulder, sobbing quietly, not even looking up—not like yesterday at the Bai house, when she had smiled sweetly and waved goodbye.
Once Yinyin was gone, peace returned to the Luo household. Mr. and Mrs. Luo sat side by side, looking seriously at their son, who seemed lost in thought.
“So what’s going on with Yinyin?” Mr. Luo asked.
“That child… she’s from the Bai family?”
