VHBF -Chapter 155 The School Tyrant Daddy (Part 17)

The Villain is Happy Being a Father 11 min read 155 of 186 40

Shen Huainan had always kept a regular schedule and woke up early. Just after the sun had risen, he was sitting in the courtyard making tea when Yinyin—still wearing her dinosaur pajamas and not yet changed—came pattering over on her short little legs.

She ran as she smiled at him, waving her chubby little hands. “Good morning, Grandpa!”

Because she was too excited, Yinyin tripped over her own feet and with a plop fell to the ground.

After falling, she lifted her chubby little face, eyes watery with tears but still smiling. Yinyin was very tough, waving her hand bravely. “Yinyin’s okay! Yinyin will get up right away!”

Shen Huainan: “……”

He reached out and helped Yinyin up. Shen Huainan hesitated for a moment, then thought about how Shen Lian usually held the child and copied him, scooping Yinyin up into his arms.

A sweet milky scent filled his nose. The tycoon Grandpa Shen’s movements were a bit stiff. The little one in his arms was soft and squishy, as if she might break with the slightest squeeze.

Yinyin took advantage of it and wrapped her arms around him, swinging her short little legs in Grandpa’s arms. “Grandpa woke up so early! Daddy’s still lazing in bed!”

Shen Lian came over from behind in his slippers, looking lazy, and reached out to vigorously rub Yinyin’s head. “Who are you talking about?”

Yinyin immediately raised her hands in surrender. Like a little fence-sitter, she tilted her head up and acted cute, covering her mouth. “Yinyin didn’t say anything!” After that, she turned to find an ally, blinking at Grandpa. “Grandpa, isn’t that right?”

Shen Huainan: “…Mm.”

Shen Lian: “……”

Shen Lian felt rather sour inside. The kid he’d raised with one hand was no longer close to him and had switched sides to that annoying old fox.

……

After breakfast, a small delivery van loaded with snacks stopped in front of the little villa.

The driver had just gotten out to talk to the assistant who placed the order when a little Yinyin ran out through the villa gate.

She ran until she was panting, then stopped in front of them and looked up at the assistant. “Uncle, are Grandpa’s yummy treats here?”

Yinyin was very sensible. She even thanked the driver uncle, saying it must’ve been hard to bring Yinyin snacks from so far away.

The driver smiled and said to the assistant, “Your family’s child is so polite. Very cute.”

The assistant’s eyelid twitched slightly. Of course she’s cute—if she weren’t, would she have managed to win over sir in less than a day and get him to buy snacks and toys for her?

In the study on the second floor, Shen Lian stood by the window, squinting as he looked down. Shen Huainan sat behind the desk, his hands loosely clasped together.

He said, “Make a choice?”

Shen Lian watched for a while, then scratched the back of his head and sneered. “I choose neither. I don’t want to go abroad, and I’m not going back to the Imperial Capital. I think it’s pretty good staying in this small place.”

His tone was mocking. With the back of his head facing Shen Huainan, he said without turning around, “Old man, you never bothered to manage me since I was little. Now that I’m this grown, you want to manage me—aren’t you afraid it’ll prick your hands?”

“I’ve grown crooked anyway. I like being crooked and don’t want you controlling me. Is that okay?”

The man sitting at the desk frowned slightly. A few seconds later, he spoke again. “You’re already an adult. What kind of person you want to be is your business—I won’t interfere. But Shen Lian, you need to understand: your surname is Shen. In the future, your abilities must be worthy of that surname.”

“Do you think fighting, brawling, skipping classes every day makes you a qualified member of the Shen family?”

The man seemed somewhat tired and rubbed his brow. “Shen Lian, you should grow up.”

The blue-haired youth clenched his fists tightly, trembling slightly. He straightened his back and walked out of the study. So what if he was a Shen? Like him—working day and night like a machine all year round, cold and emotionless, with nothing in his eyes or heart except a broken company?

He was a person, not a machine!

The door slammed shut. Shen Huainan relaxed back against the chair, and the electric curtains were drawn closed, plunging the study into darkness.

Perhaps because the window wasn’t shut, waves of childish, sweet little voices kept drifting in.

Yinyin’s excited cries rang out:

“Wow, so many yummy snacks! Assistant Uncle, Grandpa bought all this!”

Yinyin emphasized, “Grandpa bought these for Yinyin!”

“Grandpa is so good! This is Yinyin’s favorite! This one too—Daddy said they didn’t sell it at the mall anymore!”

“Uncle, Yinyin wants to help carry them too! Yinyin will help you carry!”

“These are Grandpa’s gifts for Yinyin—why can’t I carry them?”

“It’s okay, Yinyin’s eaten lots, I’m super strong now!”

“So many! Tonight I’m going to sleep with snacks! La la la la…”

“……”

The chirpy little baby voice carried up from the courtyard. Yinyin was so happy she was like a tiny fluttering butterfly, trotting closely behind the assistant uncle, her small eyes fixed on the boxes and bags of snacks he was carrying.

A faint curve lifted at Shen Huainan’s lips. He closed his eyes and drifted back to sleep.

It had been a long time since Shen Huainan had slept this deeply. When he woke again, a little ball of dough was lying at the doorway.

Big eyes peeked over curiously, her movements cautious, as if afraid of disturbing him.

When she saw him open his eyes, Yinyin dashed over in a flash. “Grandpa, you’re awake!”

“You didn’t come down for lunch. Yinyin and Daddy waited for a really long time.”

Shen Lian stood at the doorway with his arms crossed and rolled his eyes. He hadn’t waited—he’d been dragged there by the brat!

Of course, Shen Lian would never admit that he’d also been worried the old man might’ve been angered into something serious…

Anxious concern flickered in Yinyin’s eyes. She stood on her tiptoes and reached out her chubby little paw to touch his forehead. Shen Huainan chuckled softly, picked her up, and let her place her paw against his forehead to check his temperature. Smiling, he reassured her, “I’m fine. I just slept a bit too long.”

Yinyin then touched her own forehead and felt that hers seemed warmer. She gasped.
“Could it be that Yinyin has a fever?”

Shen Huainan rubbed her little head, from her forehead to the crown, somewhat helpless.
“I’ll have the doctor uncle come check your temperature later.”

Shen Lian walked over and lifted Yinyin away directly. Speaking from experience, he said, “How many times have I told you? Kids naturally have a higher body temperature than adults. Who are you trying to fool?”

Back then, the first time it happened, Shen Lian himself had been scared half to death and even called a doctor over. He would never forget the doctor’s baffled look—being embarrassed because of ignorance and all that…

Yinyin lowered her little head and poked her fingers together. She’d just been worried Grandpa might be unhappy, so she wanted to tease him a bit!

But Yinyin knew that wasn’t right. Changing her tone, she said in a soft, milky voice, “Yinyin was just teasing herself!”

Shen Lian: “……”

Having lived more than half his life, Shen Huainan was seeing such a soft, adorable, clever, and lively little creature for the first time. Such a small body, yet brimming with vitality—curious about everything, just like a newborn little cub.

Shen Huainan stepped forward and patted Yinyin’s head. “Grandpa was teasing you. I wasn’t really going to call the doctor.”

Yinyin didn’t notice the change in his tone. She clapped her chubby paws. “Yinyin is bad. Yinyin will make it up to Grandpa with a present!”

After saying that, she struggled down from Shen Lian’s arms, grabbed Shen Huainan’s big hand, and dragged him downstairs.

Shen Lian stood behind them, watching the big and small figures head down together, when a sudden, intense sense of crisis welled up inside him.

Earlier, he’d still been thinking about how to get the old man to accept Yinyin. But now, the old man seemed to have already accepted her, and that made Shen Lian feel oddly uncomfortable.

Yinyin pulled Shen Huainan all the way to the small storage room on the first floor. Inside were several shelves, all filled with her snacks. An entire truckload of snacks brought in today had been placed there.

She proudly showed off the little key hanging around her neck. “Grandpa, the key to the storage room is on Yinyin! I’m the one keeping it! Daddy can’t even get in!”

Pointing at the warehouse full of snacks, she let out another amazed gasp. In her tiny three-year-old life, she’d never seen so many snacks—and all of them were her favorites!

Yinyin rubbed against Shen Huainan’s pant leg. “Thank you, Grandpa. Yinyin likes them so, so much. I can eat them for a really long time, until Yinyin grows up!”

Shen Huainan chuckled lightly. “These things have expiration dates. Once they expire, you can’t eat them.”

Yinyin was surprised. “What’s an expiration date? How long is that?”

Shen Huainan thought for a moment. How long did food usually last? He hesitated before answering, “Some last a few months, some a year?”

Yinyin had at least a rough idea of what a year meant. In a year, she wouldn’t grow much taller, so it must be a very, very short time.

She looked at the snacks and sighed. “Grandpa, if… if Yinyin can’t finish them, can we give them to other kids who don’t get to eat snacks?”

She knew there were many children like her who couldn’t eat tasty snacks, just like she used to—if she hadn’t met Daddy…

Shen Huainan paused, then agreed.

Yinyin walked to the very back and hugged out a plush toy taller than herself. “Grandpa bought Yinyin so many snacks. This is Yinyin’s favorite little Bubu! Yinyin wants to give it to Grandpa!”

The world’s top tycoon, who had never played with plush toys his entire life, received his first-ever stuffed toy. When the assistant saw their dignified and wise sir come out holding a plush toy, his eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. He couldn’t believe it—was this really their sir? Or had the young master possessed him?

Shen Lian snorted from the side. Anyway, it was a toy the brat didn’t like that much. Her favorite one was with him!

To Yinyin, every pretty and adorable plush toy was her beloved treasure, so she said the exact same thing to both Grandpa and Daddy…

Later, one day, when they saw Yinyin give a little bunny plush to Shen Lian’s grandmother—Yinyin’s great-grandma—she said the same words: “This is Yinyin’s favorite toy! I’m giving it to you!”

When father and son learned the truth and thought of the plush toys they had carefully treasured away, they both fell silent.

“……”

Back to the present. After lunch, Shen Lian planned to take Yinyin out to play. When he rolled out his motorcycle, Shen Huainan frowned in disapproval. “It’s not safe.”

So Shen Lian switched to the blue Lamborghini sports car. Shen Huainan’s frown deepened.
“This isn’t safe either.”

Shen Lian scratched his head, nearly driven crazy by the old man. This wouldn’t do, that wouldn’t do—why hadn’t he noticed before that the old man was so nitpicky? And so controlling!

Shen Huainan called the assistant and had the driver bring the car over. A black Lincoln stopped in front of them. Shen Lian carried Yinyin and got in first. When he saw the child safety seat already installed in the back, he froze.

In less than a day, even this had been taken care of?

Was the old man planning to stay here long-term or what?

Shen Huainan got in as well and said to the driver, “Go to the dealership.”

What surprised Shen Lian even more was that the old man didn’t go to BMW or Mercedes, nor any top-tier luxury brand. Instead, he had the driver head to Volvo, a brand known for safety and environmental friendliness.

An imported model costing over a million—solid and understated, completely different from Shen Lian’s usual style. Shen Huainan said calmly, “In the future, when you take the child out, drive this one.”

Shen Lian: “……”

The 4S shop staff had never seen such a decisive customer. He didn’t even test-drive the car—just glanced at it and bought it.

They were extremely enthusiastic and even joked, “You two father and son are really handsome!”

A female salesperson laughed and said, “Mr. Shen, you really look like our country’s richest man!”

“And what a coincidence—you’re surnamed Shen, and the tycoon is also surnamed Shen! But there’s no way the tycoon would come to a small place like this. I heard on the news that he went to the U.S. to talk business?”

Even if beaten to death, these salespeople would never imagine that the tycoon they were talking about was standing right in front of them—and had just bought a car from them!

Shen Lian signed the contract and swiped the card. None of the salespeople suspected that these two were actually the tycoon and his son—especially with Shen Huainan holding an exquisitely cute little Yinyin in his arms. That was even more impossible. No one had heard that the richest man had become a grandfather. With the child calling him “Grandpa” every other sentence, he must just be an ordinary person who happened to look similar. After all, among billions of people, there are always a few who resemble each other.

When the car was ready, the salesperson warmly invited Shen Huainan, Shen Lian, and Yinyin to take a photo beside it. “Let’s take a picture! If you come back again in the future, we’ll apply the biggest discount for you!”
