But just as Zhu Jie was drenched in sweat, feeling a rush of exhilaration, she noticed someone approaching through the crowd. The person came straight to her and stood quietly in front of her.

Those shoes… why did they look so familiar? Weren’t they just an ordinary pair of cloth shoes? Yet the more Zhu Jie looked, the more familiar they seemed. She lifted her head, and upon seeing the person, her mouth instantly fell open in shock!

At the same time, Hu Sanliu, his puffy eyes wide, shouted excitedly, “Erhan! Erhan, save me!”

At this moment, without the onlookers or the bloodied, unconscious Hu Sanliu on the ground, Zhu Jie would have looked so delicate, like a wife finally reunited with her long-awaited husband, her eyes glimmering with excitement, trembling, longing for protection.

But unfortunately, the crowd still stared wide-eyed, and no one helped the pitifully lying Hu Sanliu. In this odd scene, Zhu Jie seemed otherworldly, standing alone, serene, gentle, with a breeze brushing her face.

The next instant, before Ji Yi could react, Zhu Jie leapt straight into his arms. She let out a coquettish whimper, sobbing softly, “Where did you go? Why are you only just back?”

Flutters and gasps! The fierce “wolf” had instantly turned into a little lamb. The onlookers’ eyes nearly popped out in disbelief!

Zhu Jie clenched her small fists, gently pounding Ji Yi’s chest while crying, “Do you know? You really scared me just now!” Each punch was filled with a mix of anger and embarrassment.

Who was really scared just now? Sister, are you sure you’re not mistaken? The crowd couldn’t help but scoff at her, but Zhu Jie seemed completely oblivious, continuing her relentless crying.

At first, everyone worried about Ji Yi—wasn’t she punching him hard enough to injure him internally? But to their surprise, although her cries were sharp and pitiful, her punches were so soft that they barely tickled. After a few strikes, Ji Yi couldn’t help but laugh.

But he didn’t reveal it. He gently held her fists, brushing the tears from her cheeks with his other hand, sighing softly. “It’s my fault. I… I went to buy a piece of clothing.”

Hearing this, Zhu Jie finally noticed that he was carrying two oil-paper-wrapped packages. One of them revealed a glimpse of sky-blue brocade inside.

“This?” Her heart leapt, disbelief surging as she stared at him, trembling as she pointed to the package.

Ji Yi’s face faintly flushed. “For you!” His voice was shy and so low it was almost inaudible.

Tears welled up in Zhu Jie’s eyes again. She broke free from his hold and pressed herself heavily against his chest, choking back her sobs. “Where did you get the money?”

Ji Yi didn’t answer. Instead, he held her close, letting her whine and pat his chest, while he, just as before, laughed heartily with pure joy.
