Zhu Jie immediately grabbed the corner of the quilt and stared at Ji Yi in shock. Men and women shouldn’t have physical contact—right?!

She watched as Ji Yi casually plopped down beside her on the bed. Seeing the awkward look on her face, he instead looked completely puzzled.

“Y-you… what are you trying to do?” Zhu Jie stammered. Her eyes were wide—wider than copper bells—looking as if they might pop out.

“Sleep,” Ji Yi replied bluntly. They didn’t even have food to eat, so of course they had to go to bed early to conserve their strength. Was there a problem with that?

But Zhu Jie clutched the quilt tightly, refusing to let go. Ji Yi tried to pull it, but it wouldn’t budge. His face darkened again. This guy’s strange strength was really something—he had even been able to knock him down earlier.

Thinking back to the embarrassment in the snow, Ji Yi wished he could dig a hole and crawl into it. His pants had been pulled off! Fortunately, this guy hadn’t been trying to do anything, otherwise his thing might really have been in danger!

Ji Yi secretly exerted some force. With a tearing sound, he nearly ripped the quilt in half. Luckily Zhu Jie let go just in time. Ji Yi raised an eyebrow and glanced at her. Seeing the timid look on her face, he couldn’t even bring himself to get angry.

This person was really strange—a grown man putting on such a pitiful expression!

Actually, Zhu Jie wasn’t exactly timid. She was just a little frightened. How could this guy be so strong? Earlier she had intended to hold onto the quilt with all her strength, but she suddenly realized that if she did that, the two of them would probably tear the quilt apart.

Of course, that was because she hadn’t seen him chopping down a tree earlier. If she had, she would have been even more shocked by his strength.

“There’s nowhere else in the house,” Ji Yi explained simply.

Zhu Jie immediately understood. Looking at the bare and empty house, it clearly belonged to a poor family. Just think about it—if people were desperate enough to eat human flesh just to get some meat, how poor must they be?

Besides, even if there were other rooms, Zhu Jie felt that the old woman who kept yelling earlier would never let this guy stay there. She probably wished she could force him to kill her with his own hands.

“But…” Zhu Jie spoke softly, wanting to remind him that they really couldn’t sleep in the same bed.

Unfortunately, Ji Yi had already lain down fully clothed, leaving Zhu Jie no chance to protest.

Zhu Jie sat on the bed, staring blankly at the man whose back was facing her. This was the first time she had ever slept beside a man, right? Had it ever happened in kindergarten? Forget it—that didn’t count!

But this house was really terrible. Even though houses in ancient times had poor insulation, they shouldn’t be this drafty. Zhu Jie cursed silently in her heart. Sitting against the wall like this, her back became stiff with cold in no time.

After hesitating for a while, she finally decided to lie down.

But the moment Zhu Jie lay down, Ji Yi suddenly moved closer. The two of them ended up back-to-back, pressed tightly together. Zhu Jie could even feel the unique warmth radiating from the man’s body, and her face immediately turned red.

No, this won’t do! Zhu Jie secretly made up her mind.

Fine! Even if she didn’t repay his kindness, it wouldn’t be that bad, right?

She decided to kick this man straight off the bed.

Zhu Jie quietly turned over. She tentatively poked Ji Yi.

Oh? Had he fallen asleep?

At that moment, Ji Yi actually wasn’t asleep. He felt the person behind him moving again and again, even poking him with a finger. He immediately became alert.
