“Big sister, you’ve been looking even more haggard these past few days,” Princess Lanqin said with concern, glancing at Princess Lanxin. Her eyes were slightly swollen, the rims red as if she had just been crying.

“It’s nothing… I just heard a story a few days ago. Every time I think of it, I toss and turn. These past few nights, I’ve hardly had any sleep,” Princess Lanxin said softly.

“What story could move you so much? Tell me, little sister wants to hear it too!” Princess Lanqin asked with a gentle smile.

Princess Lanxin let out a long sigh. “Ah… it’s just a story about a devoted man mourning his deceased wife.”

She sighed again. “Do you remember the man we ran into at the Third Prince’s residence the other day?”

Princess Lanqin furrowed her brows. “I remember. Why are you bringing him up again?”

“He’s pitiful… his wife, I think her name was Zhu Jie, passed away,” Princess Lanxin choked up. “And she died so tragically…”

Princess Lanqin listened, but she wasn’t moved in the slightest. Instead, the corners of her mouth twitched uncontrollably. Heh… dead?

“Ah, if only someone could love me so devotedly,” Princess Lanxin murmured wistfully.

“Love you… how?” At that moment, a bone-chilling voice suddenly cut through the air. Princess Lanxin flinched and gripped Princess Lanqin’s hand more tightly.

Princess Lanqin gracefully bowed and said, “Fourth brother-in-law!”

The man sat upright in a wide chair, a blanket draped over his legs even in the warm spring weather. Seeing the two princesses, he didn’t move an inch, not even bothering to return the greeting. He coldly addressed Princess Lanqin, “What are you here for again?”

Princess Lanqin froze for a moment, awkwardly, but replied softly, “I heard the begonias at the princess’s residence bloomed early, so my sister invited me to come enjoy the flowers with her.”

The two of them walked over, and Princess Lanqin naturally pushed the chair forward—it was a wooden wheelchair.

The Prince Consort snorted coldly. “I bet she came crying to you again, didn’t she? Complaining that I mistreat her?”

“Of course not! Fourth brother-in-law has always treated my sister well. She often praises you!” Princess Lanqin quickly defended.

The Prince Consort sneered. “What a blatant lie.”

Now no one knew how to respond. Princess Lanxin and Princess Lanqin exchanged a glance and silently sighed.

He spat coldly again. “Fine. Since you’re here, help me advise your sister. Stop overthinking everything. In her life, she’s just here to accompany this crippled man of mine. Don’t drag random men into our house and make a fool of herself!”

“I didn’t!” Princess Lanxin immediately retorted.

The Prince Consort’s voice turned even colder. “Didn’t you? The whole princess residence is in chaos because of you women. Do you think I’m blind?”

“I… I just felt sorry for him,” Princess Lanxin murmured softly, her voice weakening as she spoke.

Princess Lanqin felt a tug in her heart and smiled slightly. She also defended her sister, “Exactly. She’s always been kind since she was little, and fourth brother-in-law knows that!”

“Hmph, such a fool,” the Prince Consort sneered, his voice icy and harsh.

Princess Lanxin bowed her head silently at his harsh words, but tears still welled in her eyes.

Princess Lanqin sighed, feeling awkward as she glanced at her sister.

Then the Prince Consort barked lowly, “Enough, enough. I won’t block your view any longer. Have a servant wheel me out!”

Yes, the gentle and beautiful Princess Lanxin had married a crippled Prince Consort. She felt embarrassed, standing there awkwardly, unsure what to say, and quietly handed the wheelchair to a servant. The servant, clearly used to this, didn’t even glance at her.

Once the Prince Consort had finally gone far enough, Princess Lanxin spoke softly, “Little sister, are you really going to marry into the Qi Kingdom?”

“Could I not go?” Princess Lanqin replied with the same wistfulness.

“Ah… I fear that once you go, you’ll walk the same path I did,” Princess Lanxin said bitterly.
