“Master, where did you go?”

As soon as Ji Yi stepped through the door, Doctor Sun hurried over anxiously. Seeing the bloodstain on his chest, he immediately became tense. “Oh my! How did you get hurt? Quick, sit down—I’ll take a look!”

Ji Yi obediently sat down, sighing softly. “It’s just a superficial wound. Nothing to worry about.”

“Oh, Brother Ji! Why did you only just get back? Do you know how worried I was when I came back and didn’t see you?” Lu Anzhi came running over as well, chattering nervously.

Ji Yi, however, sat there like an idiot, letting Doctor Sun apply the medicine, his face expressionless. Was he lost in thought, or had his soul left his body?

Everyone was startled by his demeanor. Then Uncle Ge whispered, “Master, how is it? Did the Lady of Ping’an not recognize you?”

Ji Yi only let out a long sigh—his answer in itself.

Manager Liao, seeing Ji Yi’s downcast aura, immediately jumped up angrily. “Master, that woman… don’t worry about her. I’ll tell you—I went out to find out. That Lady of Ping’an isn’t any good. I heard she’s beaten several of her maidservants to death! And that’s not all—she’s arrogant, strong-willed, with a terrible temper. She looks down on everyone and always rolls her eyes at people. Why are you still worrying about her?”

Hearing him speak with such indignation, Ji Yi could only helplessly rub his face. “It’s not—”

Before he could finish, Manager Liao interrupted eagerly. “Not what? I’ve already asked around—no one in the capital wants to marry her. If she weren’t going to enter the palace, she’d probably have been married off to some minor family!”

“I said it’s not that!” Ji Yi, irritated by all the rambling, snapped.

“Master, there’s no need to defend her. I get it now—we were right to drive her away!” Manager Liao boasted loudly.

But as soon as he said this, Ji Yi’s expression turned cold. He lifted his head and said, “You drove Zhu Jie away?”

Manager Liao realized he’d said the wrong thing and shrank back, chuckling nervously. “Uh… I had some soup simmering on the stove! I’ll get it for you!”

“Bam!” Ji Yi slammed the table and stood up. “All of you, kneel!”

Before the command had even finished, swish, swish, swish—the others dropped to their knees. Lu Anzhi, standing to the side, was stunned. A group of old men, kneeling instantly at a single word—he gave a thumbs-up. “Your family’s discipline is really strict!”

Ji Yi, face cold, asked, “What’s going on? Confess honestly!”

Manager Liao and the others looked at each other, silent. Ji Yi suddenly turned away from them and spoke in a low, haunting tone: “I always thought you grew up watching me, that I treated you like family, so I indulged you. But you’ve disappointed me too much. It seems that unless I take some thunderous action, you won’t admit it!”

Hearing this, Doctor Sun was the first to protest. “Master, that’s unfair! We truly care about you! Really, this has nothing to do with me!”

“What do you mean nothing to do with you? Weren’t you the one describing me so miserably that it scared her?” Uncle Ge immediately chimed in.

“You joined in too!” Doctor Sun bit back at him.

“I was forced by Manager Liao!” Uncle Ge quickly replied.

“Yes, Master, we were all forced by Old Liao!” Doctor Sun started crying outright.

Manager Liao thought, “Wow, what a team of fools—this is like stabbing me with a knife!” He said bluntly, “You all thought Zhu Jie was suspicious, right? Worried she had connections to someone big like Consort Li, and might cause trouble for Master? I’ll admit it—this was all planned together. No one can pass the blame!”

“What are you talking about?” Ji Yi said coldly.

Manager Liao had no choice. “When you were captured by Magistrate Xu, we… we just frightened the lady a little. We didn’t expect her to be so righteous! She immediately called the Jinyiwei. Their abilities were incredible—they easily rescued you!”
