But in the next moment—smack!—a hand smacked across. Everyone in the hall froze and turned toward the haughty Ping’an County Lady.

In a cold voice, she said, “Who do you take me for? Any man wants to see me? Get out! Leave immediately!”

The maid, who had been full of shyness, was now reduced to tears from that slap. She covered her cheek, crying as she ran out.

Ji Yi waited outside, unable to hear what was said, but could see everything inside. He was stunned—she actually hit someone?

The maid turned angrily toward him, spitting out, “What lecherous man dares to come here? Who do you think our County Lady is? Our County Lady said get lost, now leave!” She raised her arm as if to smack him too!

Ji Yi was shocked. Had he done something wrong? Why did she tell him to leave? Something was definitely off here.
