“Awake?” In the moonlight, a graceful figure quietly stepped in. Ji Yi looked up at the woman entering through the door and was momentarily stunned.

Tonight, she seemed especially beautiful. A soft radiance seemed to emanate from her entire being, pure and delicate, like a begonia under the moonlight. There was even an indescribable sorrow about her, faint yet lingering, impossible to shake off.

“No!” Ji Yi whispered in response, turning to light the candle on the bedside.

But Zhu Jie let out a quiet sigh, saying, “Don’t.”

Ji Yi was slightly taken aback. She continued softly, “I just came to talk.” With that, she quietly approached and sat at the head of his bed.

How much time passed, he couldn’t tell. Eventually, she spoke again, her voice faint: “Tomorrow’s wedding…”

Ji Yi thought she was worried, so he quickly, even cheerfully, said, “Don’t worry. Tomorrow’s wedding will go on as planned. And you’ll be perfectly fine!”

Hearing this, Zhu Jie merely looked up at him silently. Her eyes seemed full of things to say, yet she said nothing at all.

Ji Yi gently leaned closer, whispering in her ear, “Early tomorrow, Uncle Ge and the others will come. We’ll first go to the Ji family, make some noise through the village, then come pick you up. Then we’ll go around the village again, letting everyone know that you, Zhu Jie, are my wife. After that, we’ll return home for a grand feast, ha ha, lively for three whole days. How does that sound?”

Zhu Jie just looked up at the sky, her face full of longing, and repeated, “Let everyone know I’m your wife?” Then she couldn’t help but smile.

Ji Yi pulled her into a strong embrace from behind, whispering softly, “Yes, let everyone know.”

At that moment, tears fell. Whether from emotion or joy, Ji Yi felt a warm drop hit his hand. He froze for a moment and asked, “Why do you seem so heavy-hearted?”

“I… I’m just happy!” Zhu Jie said softly. Then, turning, she threw her arms around Ji Yi, whispering, “After we marry, will we really be happy?”

“Of course! I’ll do everything I can to make you happy!” Ji Yi murmured in her ear. “We’ll move to Qi State, live freely and at ease. You weave cloth, I farm the fields—no worldly worries. Okay?”

“Okay. Then we’ll live our little life, no one can find us!” Zhu Jie affirmed, her eyes full of hope. She gently cupped Ji Yi’s face and softened her voice: “Let me look at you properly.”

“Look at what?” Ji Yi teased with a smile. “You’ll be looking at this face forever. Aren’t you afraid of getting tired of it?”

But Zhu Jie stared at him seriously, as if she wanted to imprint every detail onto her eyes. “I won’t get tired. A lifetime won’t be enough to tire me!”

Her voice choked again, and her eyes seemed to brim with tears. Ji Yi froze, but before he could ask, Zhu Jie suddenly threw her arms around his neck, hanging completely in his embrace.

“I haven’t given you your reward yet!” she whispered mischievously in his ear.

“What?” Ji Yi was momentarily stunned. The next moment, a hot, wet kiss landed unexpectedly on his neck. No—this wasn’t just one. Tonight, she was unusually passionate, leaving kiss after kiss, teasing his nerves.

“Stop! Don’t play around!” he gasped. “I told you, I’m a normal man!”

He struggled to restrain an instinctive reaction, trying to push her away, yet his gaze burned hungrily at her.

She gently and seductively caressed his shoulder. As her delicate hand traced across him, her garment silently slipped, revealing her fair shoulder once more.

Seeing her shyly lowering her head and the flickering uncertainty in her eyes, Ji Yi’s imagination ran wild. He swallowed hard, half-joking, half-serious: “What? Want me to massage your shoulders again? Just say it! Don’t tease me—I won’t resist!”
