“Old woman, do you think what she said was true?” As soon as he stepped out of the room, Zhu Laohan couldn’t help but ask.
“Who knows? Probably half-true, half-lie!” Zhu Laotai spat forcefully—yep, blood came with it! That spit was really messy.
“Then why didn’t you just grab her? Why let her stay in the room by herself?” Zhu Laohan asked in surprise.
“Who said I didn’t grab her? But you also have to be able to catch her!” Zhu Laotai glared irritably at Zhu Laohan and herself. With both of them being old and injured, trying to catch someone—wasn’t that a bit too difficult?
Zhu Laohan, seeing her look, immediately realized: yes, he was handicapped, trying to catch her might just get the rest of his old limbs broken.
“So what do we do then? She’s already back. Are we just going to let it slide?” Zhu Laohan asked hesitantly.
“Let it slide? If we don’t, would our girl even come back?” Zhu Laotai immediately got angry. “Are you stupid? Did you hit your head? Do we still need to use our hands? Don’t you know how to use medicine?”
With that, Zhu Laotai pulled a small paper packet from her bosom, grinning wickedly. “I already got it for you. I heard it’s used at Yingchun House for girls who don’t listen. Once she takes it, I guarantee she’ll go east when you tell her west!”
Zhu Laohan’s eyes immediately widened. “Medicine for… spring?” There was a peculiar gleam in his eyes.
“What are you thinking? Don’t want that extra leg? Careful, I’ll break it for you!” Zhu Laotai glared at him viciously. That one look actually worked—Zhu Laohan’s expression immediately became pure and innocent again.
Then Zhu Laotai continued, “Alright! This is a soul-confusing potion, not some ‘spring medicine.’ Yingchun House was planning to sell it at a good price—you really think they’d just give it to men like you?”
“Wife, what are you thinking?” Zhu Laohan laughed nervously. “This is a good thing! I’ll go get some water right now!”
“I’ll go to the kitchen and make her something good to drink!” Zhu Laotai snorted coldly. “Thirty taels of sweet soup? She’ll drink it? This time, I’ll make her something even better to try!”
She smiled slyly and added, “Haven’t you gone to report to Yingchun House yet?”
Zhu Laohan heard this. “Ah, I’ll go right away. But wife, she’s not easy to deal with. Are you sure leaving it to yourself is okay?”
“Don’t trust me anymore? Do you think I’m dumb? Can’t even handle a little girl?” Zhu Laotai said confidently. “Just wait and see!”
Meanwhile, the elderly Zhu couple enthusiastically threw themselves into the mission of dealing with Zhu Jie. Suddenly, a cold laugh came from above—someone was on the roof?
Under the moonlight, two figures were hidden between the eaves, clearly having seen everything that had happened.
What did that cold laugh mean? Did he not think highly of the Zhu elders? That person looked familiar… was he the awkward Uncle Ge?
Uncle Ge’s small, gleaming eyes flicked toward Ji Yi, full of mockery. He had seen everything earlier and now understood why Shopkeeper Liao had wanted to drive Zhu Jie away at the time.
That girl was not ordinary! Look at her—bold enough to act on her own, she ran back by herself and even pushed everything onto others. Claiming the Ji family had kidnapped her? Nonsense—she had already run out when Ji Yi arrived.
Life was going to be far from boring from now on! Uncle Ge shook his head responsibly, clearly disapproving of Ji Yi’s choice of person.
Ji Yi merely shot him a cold glance, face stern, tinged with annoyance. What did that expression mean?
He could only give a helpless cold smile. Not surprising Uncle Ge looked down on Zhu Jie—the girl had been a pro at “opening skulls” for fifteen years. Another joyful encounter! There was nothing he could do; why bother teasing her? Just deal with it!
Silently, Ji Yi flipped down from the rooftop. With a swift turn, a gust of wind blew open the door. By the time he landed, he was already inside the room.
“Do you know? They’re going to drug you. You should leave first!” Ji Yi said anxiously to Zhu Jie.
Zhu Jie chuckled lightly. “I heard.”
She knew? Hearing her so unconcerned, Ji Yi became a little flustered. “Why make a fuss? Go back now. I’ll have them arrested shortly.”
“Arrest them? Why? This is too fun a pair. I haven’t finished playing yet!” Zhu Jie said mischievously.
“Not finished playing?” What did that mean? Like playing with monkeys? Ji Yi was genuinely anxious.
At that moment, a soft sound came from outside the door. Already back so quickly?
“Quick, hide!” Zhu Jie immediately became alert, urging Ji Yi.
Ji Yi sighed helplessly and quietly jumped onto the beam of the room.
