“Rong’er, I heard you kept a young lady at the residence?” Old Master Sun asked as tactfully as he could.

When Princess Pingning heard this, her heart suddenly skipped a beat. Could it be that she had already met Grandfather earlier? “I only kept a friend here as a guest. Grandfather needn’t worry!” As she spoke, the Princess Pingning kept her eyes fixed on Old Master Sun, as if afraid of saying something wrong.

But Old Master Sun sighed and said, “Since she’s just a friend, shouldn’t she be sent home?”

As he spoke, he looked at Princess Pingning cautiously. “I think there may have been some misunderstanding. Even before you came, our family had already refused her. Shaoyan doesn’t like her at all, and her family also said they would never have anything to do with our family again. For a girl like that, why insist on keeping her here?”

“Open the door!”

Hearing the sharp command from outside, Ji Mei’s heart jolted. She hurried forward and ran toward the door.

But the moment the door opened, she shrieked and darted back into the room in terror—because the person who entered was not Ji Yi, but Princess Pingning.

Terrified, she watched as the Princess walked in with several maids, yet Ji Yi was nowhere to be seen behind them. She immediately burst into tears.

“Please, don’t hit me anymore! I—I won’t dare do it again!” she cried, shrinking fearfully into the corner of the room.

Seeing her cowardly appearance, Princess Pingning frowned unconsciously. With a disdainful wave of her hand, several maids immediately stepped forward.

Seeing the fierce expressions on the maids’ faces, and remembering how she had already been tormented all day, Ji Mei grew even more frightened. She shrank back while crying.

“Please! Princess, please let me go!”

Princess Pingning didn’t even bother responding.

One maid stepped forward and grabbed Ji Mei’s arm, twisting it harshly, while another slapped her hard across the face with a loud smack. The corner of Ji Mei’s already swollen mouth split open, and blood immediately seeped out.

“Ah—!”

“No! Don’t! Don’t!” Ji Mei cried desperately.

But the maid beside her looked even more terrifying. In her hand she held a sharp awl, walking toward Ji Mei with a cold smile. The pointed tip was aimed straight at her cheek.

Th-this… they were going to ruin her face!

Just as the awl was about to stab viciously into the face she once believed to be of peerless beauty, Ji Mei shut her eyes tightly, nearly fainting.

Heavens! Was her entire future about to be destroyed?

At that very moment, a startled shout rang out.

“Stop! What are you doing?!”

The person who cried out was none other than Princess Pingning!

The maids froze in surprise and all turned to look at the Princess’s head maid.

The head maid, still trying to please her, said with a smile, “Following Princess’s orders, we were about to ruin this vixen’s face!”

As she spoke, she even made an exaggerated stabbing gesture—stab, stab, stab!

When Ji Mei saw that, her heart nearly stopped.
