Li Qingning walked over and crouched beside Diandian. She poked its little nose with her finger and said, “You’re all dirty. My brother-in-law won’t let you get near sister like this.”
“Awwooo… awwooo…” It wished it could go back home and have the male master give it a bath—a nice, fragrant rose petal bath.
“You calling won’t help; I can’t do anything for you either,” Li Qingning said to herself, unable to understand Diandian’s words. “Why don’t you go wash in the little stream?”
“….” It couldn’t understand her, so what could it do? Diandian looked at Ningning with pity, shifting its little bottom—it clearly didn’t want to go to the stream for a bath.
It wanted to go home for a fragrant hot rose-petal bath, not wash in a stream!
Even though Li Qingning couldn’t understand what Diandian was saying, she could understand its actions.
“Heh, you stinky Diandian, you’re already giggling about bathing, and you still dare to be picky?” Li Qingning ruffled its head. “You want my brother-in-law to give you a bath, right?”
Last time it had a rose petal bath and went bragging to her about it.
Was it going to want a rose petal bath again this time?
This little thing enjoyed itself even more than she did.
Diandian squinted and let out an “awwooo”—the female master couldn’t bathe it, so only the male master could.
Anyway, it had made up its mind: no way was it going to bathe in the stream.
“Then remember to hunt something to bring home to please my brother-in-law, okay?”
“Awwooo…” Okay.
“Does this little thing even make Mo’er give it a bath?” Old Xue, hearing Li Qingning, couldn’t help but glance at Diandian again. He thought, this little creature is truly clever… it’s practically magical.
“Grandpa, you don’t know. It doesn’t just want my brother-in-law to bathe it—it wants a rose-petal bath too,” Li Qingning laughed. Diandian was hilarious. It was male—how could it want a rose-petal bath?
The mental image was just too beautiful; she didn’t dare imagine it.
“What? A rose-petal bath too?” Old Xue’s eyes almost popped out. “It really asked for it itself?” He couldn’t picture a big tiger bathing in a tub full of rose petals.
The image was just too shocking…
Li Qingning nodded. Yes, it requested it herself.
She had asked her sister afterward. Her sister said Diandian asked for it itself; if there were no rose petals, it wouldn’t go in to bathe.
When she heard that, she nearly choked on her own saliva. She didn’t expect Diandian to be like this—so… so eccentric.
If it were female, it would be one thing, but it was male.
Who has a male that insists on bathing in rose petals? Diandian was the exception…
“Diandian, you’re male, you know that? Male…” Old Xue stared at Diandian. “A male should have masculinity, not be so girly, understand?” Bathing was one thing, but rose-petal baths were just too much.
Diandian looked at Li Qingning with disdain, then at Old Xue. So what if it was male? Couldn’t it still bathe in rose petals?
As the female master said, “The desire to be beautiful exists in everyone.” Even if it wasn’t human, it liked being beautiful!
It just liked fragrant things.
“Grandpa, grandpa, did you see that? Did you see? Diandian is looking down on us!” Li Qingning exclaimed, pinching its little ears. “You little thing, I haven’t even looked down on you yet, and you have the nerve to look down on me?”
Ears were Diandian’s sensitive spot. It twitched, lifted its paw to push Li Qingning’s hand away, and quickly dove into Mr. Luo’s arms, ignoring her.
Mr. Luo didn’t mind Diandian getting his clothes dirty. He patted its little head and turned to Li Qingning. “Don’t bully it; it must be sad enough.”
“Awwooo…” Yes, it would be sad.
“Oh, you little rascal. You think you have a backer, so I can’t do anything to you, huh?” Li Qingning made a funny face, pretending to reach out to tickle it.
Diandian spun around, showing its rear to her. Li Qingning almost wanted to lift it up and scold it—it was really mischievous.
Mr. Luo laughed heartily, took the roasted wild rabbit down, set it on the ground, and patted Diandian’s little head, letting it eat.
Diandian licked Mr. Luo’s fingers, jumped down from his arms, and pounced on the roasted rabbit, eating in big bites.
Mr. Luo divided the rest of the roasted rabbits for everyone to eat.
After everyone was full, they rested for a while before going to pick wild vegetables and fruits.
This trip to Ninghua Mountain was once again a fruitful one.
Mr. Luo and the others were used to it, but Old Xue and Dahe were overjoyed. They didn’t expect Ninghua Mountain to have so many things to pick—it was incredibly satisfying.
“When will we go up the mountain again?” Old Xue asked Mr. Luo, laughing. No wonder Old Luo was so keen to visit Ninghua Mountain—it was so much fun.
Having come once, he didn’t want to leave, and he envied Mr. Luo even more.
Mr. Luo adjusted his backpack and glanced at Old Xue. He said as long as he could convince Li Qingning, he could go anytime.
He guessed Li Qingning already regretted letting them go up the mountain—how could she so easily agree again?
Old Xue had obviously thought of this. He frowned and sighed. “Convincing the girl again will be difficult!” He had used a trick today that could only be used once; next time, it wouldn’t work.
He stroked his beard, pondering how to persuade Li Qingning to agree to another trip.
After thinking for a long time, he couldn’t come up with a good plan. He glanced at Mr. Luo and asked if he had any ideas.
Mr. Luo shrugged. “No. If I had a good plan, we wouldn’t have waited until today to come up the mountain.” He admitted he owed Old Xue for letting him come along this time.
“So I suppose you still have to thank me, huh?”
“Yes…” Mr. Luo nodded straightforwardly. “Thank you. I’ll drink a couple of cups with you tonight.”
“Sure…” Having someone to drink with him was perfect, Old Xue said with a smile. “Let’s talk it over and see if there’s a way to get the girl to give in.”
The kids, hearing this, eagerly offered to help think of a plan.
They also wanted to play on the mountain again.
Mr. Luo agreed.
“Three heads are better than one,” he thought. With so many thinking together, they might come up with a good plan.
Before they returned to the backyard, they saw Li Qingning standing at the gate waiting for them.
Seeing them return safely, her mind finally relaxed completely.
“Girl, why are you standing here? Worried about us? Have you been waiting long?” Old Xue asked several questions in a row, then glanced at Liu Zhimou, silently blaming him for letting Li Qingning stand here and tire herself.
“I knew you were coming back, so I came to meet you,” Li Qingning smiled. “Since you know I worry, don’t think about going up the mountain again, okay?”
Old Xue felt like he’d shot himself in the foot. He shouldn’t have asked that question—it gave Li Qingning the perfect excuse to persuade them not to go again.
Mr. Luo glanced at Old Xue. He knew too well: you don’t fear a god-like opponent, only a teammate who’s a pig. He had been defeated by Old Xue this time.
“Come on, Xiaoling, let’s go inside and see what we brought back for you,” Mr. Luo cheerfully diverted her attention, preventing her from continuing that topic.
Old Xue quickly picked up the cue, saying they had brought her some good things and asked her to guess what.
The kids chirped around Li Qingning, making her curiosity shift entirely—she wanted to know what they brought back.
Liu Zhimou watched as Li Qingning’s attention was drawn away and shook his head helplessly. His wife was getting more and more silly after getting pregnant.
But as long as she was happy.
Li Qingning hadn’t even looked at what they brought yet—Diandian caught her attention.
She saw it tugging her skirt and looked down, asking what was wrong.
Diandian glanced at her, released its grip, and flipped Li Qingning’s backpack. From inside, it pulled out a wild rabbit and two wild chickens, placing them in front of her as her “meal.”
“Diandian is amazing, hunting so many wild animals,” Li Qingning praised without holding back. Diandian happily spun around twice, then went back to the backpack, pulling another wild rabbit and placing it at Liu Zhimou’s feet.
“Awwooo… awwooo…” For you, for you. Later, help me bathe.
Li Qingning heard this and burst out laughing. This little guy even used wild rabbits to bribe Liu Zhimou—it was such a clever trickster.
“For me?” Liu Zhimou smiled. “Thanks, Diandian.” At least the little guy had some conscience—hunting a wild rabbit for him.
“Brother-in-law, Diandian wants you to help it bathe in rose petals. The wild rabbit is your reward,” Li Qingning said cheerfully, making Liu Zhimou speechless. No wonder it gave him a wild rabbit—it wanted him to bathe it.
He pretended to be angry and looked at Diandian. “So if I don’t bathe you, you won’t give me your prey?”
Diandian rolled its eyes, shook its little head, and nudged the rabbit with its paw, letting Liu Zhimou accept it.
Li Qingling couldn’t stop laughing at the scene. This little guy was really good at winning hearts. Where did it learn this?
“Zhimou, that wild rabbit Diandian gave you is pretty plump. You’ll help it, right? Don’t waste its effort.”
Since his wife said it, he couldn’t refuse. Liu Zhimou patted Diandian’s little head helplessly. “I’ll help you bathe later.”
Diandian got excited, let out two happy “awwoos,” and ran back to Li Qingling, grabbing her finger and sucking on it.
Li Qingling, afraid others might notice, gently pulled her finger back to stop it.
Diandian looked at her with grievance. Why stop now?
Li Qingling patted its little head and whispered, “Later, you can drink.”
Diandian happily whimpered twice.
As long as it could have it, later didn’t matter.
