Before dawn the next day, something scratched at the door of Li Qingling’s room, making a rustling, scraping sound.
“Mm…” Woken up by the noise, Li Qingling murmured drowsily. She half-opened her eyes and asked in a hoarse voice, “Who is it?” Who would be knocking so early?
“Ao-woo…” Master, it’s me, it’s me—Diandian…
Diandian?
Li Qingling turned to look at Liu Zhimou and smiled helplessly. “It’s Diandian.”
That little rascal…
Liu Zhimou’s face darkened slightly. He pressed Li Qingling back down and told her to keep sleeping while he went to open the door.
Li Qingling chuckled, kissed the corner of his lips, and told him not to be angry at Diandian—it didn’t mean to do it.
He thought it did it on purpose. Disturbing people’s sleep so early in the morning—deserved a spanking…
He strode over and opened the door. Lowering his head, he saw a filthy little creature standing there, dragging a gray rabbit.
“You—” Before Liu Zhimou could finish, Diandian whooshed past his feet and ran inside.
“…” He wiped his face helplessly and turned to glare at the little thing stumbling forward. He wanted to scold it, but couldn’t bring himself to.
Diandian ran to the bed and spat out the gray rabbit with a “puh,” then excitedly howled at Li Qingling.
“Eh?” Li Qingling looked at the excited Diandian, then at the completely dead rabbit. Surprised, she asked, “You hunted this yourself? That’s amazing, Diandian. Did you go up the mountain alone?”
Diandian put its paws on the bedside and said, “No, my dad took me. I wanted to catch a deer for you, Master, but I’m still too small. I couldn’t, so I had to settle for a rabbit.” It shook its little head regretfully. “Do you like eating rabbit?”
Touched, Li Qingling patted its head and said she liked it. She also reminded it to be careful in the mountains and not to confront fierce animals head-on.
She was afraid this bold little thing might provoke stronger beasts instead of running away.
Diandian wanted to say it wasn’t afraid, but seeing her worried expression, it swallowed its words and nodded obediently.
Liu Zhimou stood aside with his arms crossed and glanced at Diandian. “Put your dirty paws down.”
This little thing was filthy and still dared to get close to his wife—asking for trouble.
Diandian looked at him, then turned back to Li Qingling with a pitiful expression, silently accusing Liu Zhimou.
Li Qingling’s maternal instincts flared up. She couldn’t bear to see it wronged, so she shot Liu Zhimou a look and told him not to be so harsh.
“…” His status was lower than a tiger’s now. Liu Zhimou felt miserable but helpless.
He took a deep breath, softened his tone, and asked Diandian politely if it could put its paws down.
Seeing Li Qingling’s hint, Diandian obediently did so.
When it noticed two black paw prints on the bed, it guiltily rolled its eyes. It didn’t mean to—it didn’t know its paws were so dirty.
Li Qingling laughed and slowly sat up. “Wait a moment. I’ll give you a bath.”
It was really too dirty.
Hearing that, Diandian lifted its head and howled happily.
Seeing its joy, Li Qingling smiled more brightly. “Take the rabbit to the kitchen first, then come back, okay?”
Diandian nodded and left, wobbling with the rabbit in its mouth.
Watching its cute figure, she burst out laughing.
Liu Zhimou shook his head helplessly, wiped the black marks off the bed, then tapped Li Qingling’s forehead, accusing her of treating Diandian better than him.
“You’re even jealous of Diandian?”
“What rank am I in your heart, huh?” He should be first.
Li Qingling giggled, hugged his neck, and coaxed him. “First place, first place.”
If she didn’t say that, he’d surely make a fuss.
Liu Zhimou looked at her skeptically. “Really?”
She nodded solemnly and cupped his face. “You’re very important to me.”
Hearing this, his face slowly broke into a smile. He held her head and kissed her deeply, only letting go when she was out of breath.
Rubbing her reddened lips, he murmured, “Why haven’t you learned how to breathe properly yet?”
Still so shy and sweet.
The person who meant the most to him in this life.
Li Qingling glared at him after catching her breath. “You’re really something…”
She pushed him lightly. “Let go. I need to change.”
“I’ll help.”
“No!”
“We’re husband and wife. No need to be shy.”
“…”
Liu Zhimou happily grabbed her clothes and moved to help her.
They’d been together for years, yet he’d never helped her dress because she was shy. Now that he finally had a chance, he wouldn’t let it go.
Seeing this, Li Qingling retreated under the blanket and shook her head. “No, I’ll do it myself!”
She wasn’t a baby.
He stared at her deeply. “Wife, what part of you haven’t I seen? Why be shy with me?”
She choked slightly. How could he say that so openly?
“I’m just embarrassed.”
“What’s there to be embarrassed about?” He shook the clothes. “Come here. Don’t make me go in and get you.”
Why was he so persistent?
“Then why won’t you let me help you change?” she blurted out.
“Oh? You want to help me?” He raised his brow and started undoing his buttons. “Say it earlier.”
“No, no, that’s not what I meant!” She waved her hands frantically.
Seeing him undo another button, she panicked.
He looked at her calmly. “Then what do you mean?”
Her gaze fell on his exposed collarbone. She swallowed hard and forced herself to look away. “I mean… I’ll change myself.”
A gleam flashed in his eyes. He tugged his collar open further.
He knew she loved looking at his collarbone.
“Wife…”
Hearing his low, magnetic voice, she glanced at him. “What?”
Trying to seduce me again?
“I’m not ugly, right? That’s why you won’t look at me?”
“Of course not.” She looked at him, met his eyes, and saw herself reflected in them. Her heart raced. “Husband… can you give me my clothes?”
He set them aside, leaned closer. “Am I good-looking?”
“Yes…”
“Am I good to you?”
“Yes…”
He asked several questions, and she answered without thinking.
“Good. Then I’ll help you change.”
“…” She finally realized. “You tricked me!”
He held her finger and smiled. “All’s fair in love and war.”
She wanted to bite him.
Too bad. Too bad. Really too bad.
“Wife, are you trying to go back on your word?”
“Yes!” She clutched the blanket. “I’m a weak woman. It’s fine if I cheat.”
He chuckled softly, lifted her chin, and kissed her.
While she was dizzy, he quickly undressed her.
Feeling cold, she snapped back. “You… you…”
He kissed her lightly again and dressed her quickly. “Stand up. I’ll tie your belt.”
Finally fulfilled, he was satisfied.
“I’m angry.”
“About what?” He tied her belt carefully. “That I didn’t dress you well? Then I’ll do it every day as punishment?”
“No.” She pinched his waist. “Don’t do this again.”
No more tempting her.
