TSWRLM -Chapter 217 Madam, You Still Came Back?

The Second Wife (Remarried Little Madam)6 min read217 of 384

“Who the hell are you? Who told you to meddle in other people’s business?”

Zhang Mingyang leapt up, furious.

He had lived a smooth, pampered life since birth, and in recent years, he had done as he pleased. In Yunzhou, no one had ever dared to challenge him like this.

Chun Xi curved her eyes and shouted, “Do you know the Wei family in the capital? I am the personal maid of the Wei family’s concubine! You dared to harass my mistress, so by order of the eldest young master, I’m here to teach you a lesson!”

With that, Chun Xi rushed into the room and began her assault.

These pampered young masters could manage drinking, leisure, and showing off—but when it came to a real fight, none of them were Chun Xi’s match. Before long, the private room was filled with the sounds of smashing furniture and anguished screams.

The tavern was busy at the time, with guests coming and going, all stopping to listen curiously.

These young masters from Yunzhou had been arrogant for years, committing abductions and extortion, leaving countless lives in their wake. Today, seeing them get taught a lesson was truly satisfying.

“Interesting,” some whispered. “The Wei family from the capital sounds powerful, but why would the eldest young master send his concubine all the way to Yunzhou?”

The tavern boys and a few attendants wanted to step in and protect their masters, but Lin Hu and Lin Bao blocked them.

Lin Bao mimicked the arrogant tone of the contact that night: “The Wei family is handling this. Anyone who interferes will be killed without mercy!”

One attendant, unwilling to believe it, tried to intervene. Lin Bao swung and cut off his arm.

The man screamed in agony. Another shouted, “Our young master is the only son of the prefect! If anything happens to him, even you, a Wei family member, won’t get away!”

No sooner had he spoken than the private room door burst open, and a bruised young master was thrown out, landing heavily downstairs.

Chun Xi clapped her hands, standing on the second-floor railing, looking down at everyone: “My eldest young master became famous at a young age, achieved great military merits, and now is a prominent figure at court. You dared to touch my young master’s precious one? Even if you were the emperor himself, you’d have to die!”

After delivering the warning, Chun Xi tossed the others from the room as well, leaving only Zhang Mingyang.

Zhang Mingyang had heard of Wei Lingze before. Infuriated, he shouted, “What’s so great about that Wei? He’s just a cripple! If you dare hurt me today, I’ll make that cripple pay!”

Chun Xi didn’t hesitate and slapped Zhang Mingyang several times. She said calmly, “My eldest young master hates the word ‘cripple’ in front of him. Zhang, if you’re seeking death, don’t blame me.”

She gave Lin Hu a signal. Lin Hu stabbed Zhang Mingyang in the leg, twisting his wrist slightly, completely disabling it.

“Master!”

Zhang Mingyang fainted instantly. His attendants screamed in anguish.

Chun Xi silenced them and raised her voice: “My mistress lives in the first house on Dongyang Lane, East Street. Zhang, if you wake and realize your mistake, come personally to apologize to my mistress, and this matter will be over. Otherwise, everyone in the Zhang family can prepare to die with you!”

With that, Chun Xi left the tavern under Lin Hu and Lin Bao’s protection and quickly changed clothes, taking Zheng’er out of the city.

Before long, the prefecture officials arrived. Seeing Zhang Mingyang and his companions beaten so badly, they were shocked. They immediately sent them to the clinic for treatment and put the entire city on alert, searching for suspicious persons.

Zhang, furious that his only son had lost a leg, tried to remain rational. He grabbed the official in charge of the investigation and asked, “Are you sure it really was someone from the Wei family who caused this?”

The official replied, “Yes, Your Honor. I saw it with my own eyes. All three wore special markings on their clothes. The house they mentioned is empty, but there’s a guard who kept shouting that he was working for the Wei family. We captured the guard’s family, and the old lady in the house confessed everything.”

“She doesn’t know much, only that the eldest young master of the Wei family planned to send a woman and a child to live there. As for the woman’s name or her family, she didn’t know.”

After hearing this, Zhang still felt uneasy. Wei Lingze had gained fame in battle as a young boy—he must be shrewd. Even punishing Zhang’s son should have been done discreetly. How could it be so public?

Zhang wanted to investigate further, but Madam Zhang stormed in: “The Wei family crippled our Yang’er! If you won’t avenge him, what are you standing here for?”

“Madam, there are still uncertainties. We should verify before acting. The eldest young master of the Wei family should not be so reckless, and Hanjing is so far from Yunzhou. Maybe someone acted on their own…”

“He’s paralyzed in bed! Can his mind be normal? Even if it was someone acting independently, they’re still Wei family people who harmed Yang’er. The Wei family must give me a satisfactory explanation, or I’ll never let this go!”

“Madam—”

Zhang was about to reason further, but Madam Zhang interrupted: “Tomorrow, I will take Yang’er to Hanjing to see a renowned doctor for his leg. If you won’t help him seek justice, he still has his grandfather backing him!”

Outside the city, Chun Xi and her companions traveled at top speed, racing back to Hanjing.

Ten days later, they arrived at an inn in Yuxian County.

After so many days on the road, everyone was exhausted. During a meal, Lin Hu suddenly spoke: “We’re not far from Hanjing. Are you sure you want to go back now?”

She was, after all, a married woman. Being gone for so long could cause all sorts of rumors. Returning could provoke gossip and complicate matters if her husband’s family got involved.

Chun Xi understood Lin Hu’s concern and calmly said, “My husband is a good man. He won’t doubt me.”

“Even if he doesn’t doubt you, what about the others?”

“As long as he doesn’t doubt me, what others say doesn’t matter.”

Her tone was firm, without a trace of worry. Lin Hu was about to say more when he suddenly felt a piercing, oppressive gaze.

Instinctively, he gripped his waist knife and turned his head—into a pair of cold, deep eyes.

Years in this line of work had honed his instincts. He immediately realized this person was formidable and clearly coming for them.

He clenched his teeth, ready for a life-or-death struggle, when he heard the voice say,

“I thought Madam had been having so much fun outside she forgot home… Didn’t expect you’d still come back.”

Hearing the familiar voice, Chun Xi spun around. Shen Qingyuan was standing just a step away.

She rubbed her eyes in disbelief. How could he be here?

Shen Qingyuan reached for her hand: “Stop rubbing. It’s me.”
