As Hu Feng conversed with Qi Shaorong, a group of instructors barged into the office.
“Principal, there was an explosion just now in the office! Did something happen?”
“Principal, we detected a strange magical fluctuation—was there an intruder?”
“Principal, oh, Qi Shaorong is here too! What’s going on between you and Qi Shaorong?”
Hu Feng waved them off impatiently. “Nothing happened. You can leave now.”
The instructors exchanged confused glances. One of them gave Qi Shaorong a suspicious look before retreating with the others.
Once the instructors were gone, Hu Feng cleared his throat and said sternly, “Qi Shaorong, you’ve damaged the principal’s desk. You need to compensate one thousand gold coins.”
Qi Shaorong frowned. “Principal, how is that old desk of yours worth a thousand gold coins?”
“Qi Shaorong, you don’t understand! That desk is an antique, several thousand years old!”
Qi Shaorong gave Hu Feng a disbelieving look. “Principal, do you think I’ve never seen an antique? My money doesn’t grow on trees.”
Hu Feng smirked. “You’re missing the point. This isn’t just any desk; it’s my desk. Can any ordinary desk compare to the one used by me, the esteemed principal?”
Qi Shaorong sighed. “Of course not, Principal. Your desk is indeed extraordinary.”
“Exactly! Qi Shaorong, with this level of understanding, you’re already miles ahead of others like Zhuang Hao. I have high hopes for you!”
Qi Shaorong simply nodded. “I’ll be leaving now, Principal.”
“Take care!”
When Qi Shaorong returned, Qi Heng greeted him. “Young Master, you’re back!”
“Yeah,” Qi Shaorong replied.
“Did the principal agree to your request?”
“He agreed, but that sly old fox squeezed more money out of me,” Qi Shaorong said with a grimace.
Qi Heng: “…”
Not long after, Hu Feng summoned Qi Shaorong again. This time, he took Qi Shaorong to the academy’s exclusive top-tier library, accessible only to a select few. Qi Shaorong was mildly surprised that the notoriously greedy principal hadn’t charged him extra for this privilege.
“Take a look. All the books on dark magic are here. The other day in my office, you used dark magic without even chanting a spell. Your spiritual power must be quite strong.”
“It’s probably heavenly-grade,” Qi Shaorong said casually.
Hu Feng’s eyes widened in shock. “What did you just say?”
“Heavenly-grade,” Qi Shaorong repeated.
“Are you sure you’re not mistaken?”
“Maybe,” Qi Shaorong replied nonchalantly.
Hu Feng: “…” Maybe? How could someone be unsure about such a thing?
“You’ve never tested it before?” Hu Feng asked in disbelief.
“Normally, you test magical attributes first and then spiritual power. Since I didn’t have any detectable attributes, I never bothered to test my spiritual power,” Qi Shaorong explained.
Hu Feng pulled out a transparent crystal sphere. “Try this.”
Qi Shaorong placed his hand on the sphere, which promptly exploded.
“You… you… you have the same heavenly-grade spiritual power as that Zhuang Hao kid?!” Hu Feng exclaimed.
Qi Shaorong raised an eyebrow. “What’s so surprising? We were born on the same day, after all. It wouldn’t be fair for him to get all the blessings while I get all the hardships.”
Hu Feng was momentarily taken aback. “You have a point there.”
Qi Shaorong: “…”
“With the competition approaching, I’ll arrange some special training for you,” Hu Feng said.
“Special training?” Qi Shaorong asked, puzzled.
“Yes. You’ll be representing our academy in the competition. We can’t have you dragging us down,” Hu Feng said.
Qi Shaorong chuckled. “Principal, rest assured. If anyone drags the team down, it won’t be me.”
Hu Feng nodded approvingly. “Good to hear!”
“Principal, how do you think our academy will rank this time?” Qi Shaorong asked.
Hu Feng sighed. “Our goal is, of course, to strive for first place.”
“Ambitious as always, Principal!” Qi Shaorong said with mock admiration.
“Not at all,” Hu Feng replied modestly.
Qi Shaorong: “…”
“I’m planning to bet 300,000 gold coins on our academy winning. What do you think?” Qi Shaorong asked.
Hu Feng’s eyes widened. “Qi Shaorong, you’re loaded!”
Qi Shaorong waved his hand dismissively. “It’s nothing. Just some pocket change from my little ventures. If the academy does win, I’d like you to help me with a small favor.”
“Of course! If we win, I’ll help you with not just one favor but ten if you need it! But, Qi Shaorong, we should keep our expectations grounded. Even making it to the top five would be an achievement, given how tough the competition is,” Hu Feng said.
Qi Shaorong gave him a disdainful look. “Principal, is that all the ambition you have?”
Hu Feng: “…” Did I just get looked down on by someone branded a magic-and-martial arts failure?
