Feihu Tribe
“Xinya, have you seen Raymon?” Kaifeng caught up to Xinya and asked.
Xinya shook his head. “No, why? What happened?”
Kaifeng frowned. “It’s nothing. I went looking for him just now, but he’s gone.”
Xinya lowered his head and forced a smile. “Maybe he just went to visit someone?”
“I heard the tribe didn’t give Raymon any meat during distribution. Even if food is scarce, they can’t just abandon a warrior like that,” Kaifeng said grimly.
Jesse came over, speaking righteously. “Kaifeng, you can’t say that! Raymon injured his leg—he can’t hunt anymore. The winter is long, and we have to prioritize feeding those still able to fight. The chief had no choice.”
Kaifeng protested, displeased, “But you can’t let a hero starve! Raymon got injured while gathering herbs for the priest.”
Jesse looked unhappy. “Kaifeng, don’t be so impulsive. You know how dire the tribe’s situation is.”
Kaifeng’s expression darkened, and he turned away silently.
Jesse watched him go and shook his head. “That guy Kaifeng is too sentimental—he doesn’t see the big picture.”
Xinya gave a bitter smile. “Maybe.” Though he felt his father’s actions were disgraceful, he didn’t have the strength to oppose him—he could only watch.
“I went to check—Raymon really is missing. He might’ve gone to join Fred,” Jesse said.
Xinya narrowed his eyes. “You think so?”
Jesse nodded. “Very likely. Raymon always treated Fred well. When Fred was possessed by the evil spirit, Raymon even brought game to Sindorei a few times. Maybe he’s doing better now than he was in the tribe.”
Elsewhere
Qi Shaorong woke up from sleep to find that Raymon was already awake.
“Good day, physician,” Raymon said respectfully.
Qi Shaorong glanced lazily at him. “Your recovery is pretty fast.”
He thought to himself: The medical standards in this world may be lacking, but the divine bloodline sure has powerful healing abilities.
Sindorei had already told Raymon many stories about Qi Shaorong, so Raymon admired him deeply.
“You’re here now—you won’t be returning to the tribe,” Qi Shaorong said plainly.
Raymon nodded. “I understand.”
After Fred’s incident, the chief and the priest of the Feihu Tribe increased their oppression of outsiders like Raymon. He had been assigned several dangerous missions and ended up with a crippled leg. He no longer wanted to stay. So when Qi Shaorong offered, he agreed without hesitation.
Qi Shaorong nodded, satisfied with his reaction.
“Shaorong, you’re awake!”
As Zhuang Hao entered the cave, Raymon’s gaze instantly locked onto him. Sindorei hadn’t told Raymon that Qi Shaorong was a foreigner—he’d claimed Qi Shaorong was a priest’s apprentice, and that he and Zhuang Hao had fallen in love, with Zhuang Hao “abducting” him from the tribe.
Since Zhuang Hao wasn’t there when Raymon woke up, Raymon was now staring curiously at the warrior who had “stolen away” the priest’s apprentice.
Qi Shaorong noticed Raymon’s stunned look and smiled faintly.
Inside the Cave
Raymon sipped some meat broth while casting suspicious glances at Qi Shaorong and Zhuang Hao.
Zhuang Hao lowered his voice and whispered, “That silly kid we rescued keeps staring at me. Do you think he’s into me?”
“Don’t flatter yourself. Around here, people like them strong—you’d need to bulk up two more sizes before they’d even consider you,” Qi Shaorong replied.
“Then why does he keep looking at me?” Zhuang Hao muttered in confusion.
“I think he’s just wondering how a skinny little chick like you managed to ‘abduct’ someone like me,” Qi Shaorong said.
Zhuang Hao grinned and leaned toward Qi Shaorong’s ear. “Maybe it’s because I have a warm body, and you’re always cold.”
Qi Shaorong: “…”
Raymon hesitated for a moment, then limped over to Qi Shaorong.
Qi Shaorong tilted his head. “Something you need?”
“Physician, Sindorei said my leg could still heal. Is that true?” Raymon asked cautiously.
Qi Shaorong nodded. “It’s true. Just don’t move around too much for a few days—you’ll recover naturally.”
Raymon’s eyes lit up. “It can really heal?”
“Of course. I don’t lie,” Qi Shaorong replied. It’s just a fracture. No big deal.
“Thank you so much, physician!” Raymon said, deeply moved.
Qi Shaorong waved him off. “It’s nothing.”
Watching Raymon’s retreating figure, Qi Shaorong commented, “This guy’s pretty easy to please.”
Zhuang Hao smiled, sighing, “In a place like this, a crippled leg and no one to help you basically means you’re close to death.”
“How’s your strength now?” Qi Shaorong asked.
“About the peak of a one-star Totem Warrior.” Thanks to the modified cultivation technique from Qi Shaorong, Zhuang Hao had made rapid progress. However, perhaps because Zhuang Hao and the others weren’t of the Divine Blood clan nor did they believe in totems, no totem marks had appeared on his body.
Qi Shaorong nodded. “Not bad, not bad.”
Zhuang Hao grinned. “Once I reach five-star Totem Warrior level, I’ll be able to harvest Yin-Yang Grass.”
Qi Shaorong glanced at him and curled his lips. “You talk big. You think five-star Totem Warrior is something you can reach just because you want to?”
Zhuang Hao smiled. “Back in the original world, I climbed to the top. I can do the same in this one.”
Qi Shaorong: “…”
…
Fred walked in, his expression grave.
Seeing Fred’s face, Zhuang Hao asked, “Fred, what’s wrong?”
“The beasts seem to be acting strange. They’re all heading west,” Fred said.
Qi Shaorong was puzzled. “Heading west? What for?”
“It’s winter now. Beasts should be hiding. Why are they heading west? Could there be something good over there?” Zhuang Hao wondered.
“Isn’t the Flying Tiger Tribe to the west? Looks like their females are in danger,” Qi Shaorong said a bit gleefully. For beasts, humans were food just as much as beasts were food for humans.
Fred shook his head. “It doesn’t seem like they’re targeting the tribe.”
Zhuang Hao stood up. “Instead of guessing here, let’s go check it out.”
“Be careful!” Qi Shaorong reminded him.
Zhuang Hao nodded. “I will.”
Fred and Zhuang Hao followed the beasts’ tracks and discovered they weren’t targeting the tribe specifically. However, since many beasts passed through the area on the way to their destination, the tribe suffered quite a few attacks.
From a distance, Fred and Zhuang Hao saw the tribe in chaos.
Zhuang Hao looked at Fred. “Some of the beasts seem to be attacking the tribe. Want to go help?”
Fred shook his head. “No need.” The tribe had already abandoned him. He had no reason to do anything for them now.
They continued following the beasts until they reached a high mountain, already surrounded by many powerful creatures.
“Half-Moon Lotus,” Fred said in surprise, looking at the lotus on the mountain.
Zhuang Hao asked, “Half-Moon Lotus? What’s that?”
“It’s a very rare lotus. I saw it in the sacrificial archives. It’s extremely attractive to both Totem Warriors and beasts. When the Half-Moon Lotus is about to ripen, it emits a subtle fragrance that draws beasts. But once it’s fully mature, it loses that scent.”
Zhuang Hao noticed several strong beasts gathered around the lotus. “Why haven’t they attacked it yet?”
Although many beasts had gathered, most were staying still.
“It hasn’t bloomed yet, so it doesn’t have any medicinal properties. That’s why the beasts aren’t acting yet,” Fred explained.
Zhuang Hao looked at the half-bloomed flower and asked, “What’s it actually used for?”
Fred took a deep breath. “It’s a rare treasure. The one who obtains it can rise rapidly in power. If I get that lotus and eat the seed, I could probably become a three-star Totem Warrior.”
Zhuang Hao’s eyes gleamed. “How many days until it matures?”
Fred thought for a moment. “Seven days, maybe.”
“Someone’s coming,” Zhuang Hao alerted.
Fred and Zhuang Hao quickly hid and saw warriors from the Flying Tiger Tribe arriving.
“I knew they’d come,” Zhuang Hao muttered. With the beasts making such a commotion, there was no way the tribe wouldn’t notice.
The tribe’s chieftain looked toward the Half-Moon Lotus, his eyes burning with desire.
Zhuang Hao and Fred concealed their presence in the jungle.
“That love rival of yours is here too,” Zhuang Hao teased.
Fred’s expression darkened. “If Mier likes him, then let her have him.”
Fred closed his eyes. He had once thought Mier would be his lifelong partner, but now he realized she wasn’t the right one. He thought he’d be heartbroken losing her, but instead, he just felt… unsettled.
After observing for a while, the tribe members left.
“They’re gone,” Zhuang Hao noted.
Fred nodded. “It’s not the right time yet. No point staying.”
“Do you think the tribe will be interested in the Half-Moon Lotus?” Zhuang Hao asked.
“Probably,” Fred replied.
Zhuang Hao squinted and sighed. “If that’s the case, we’ll have more competitors.”
Fred also found the lotus vaguely familiar.
Zhuang Hao shrugged. “Let’s not worry about it now. We should head back. We’ve been out a while. Shaorong’s probably getting worried.”
Fred looked at Zhuang Hao. “Zhuang Shao and the doctor sure have a deep bond.”
Zhuang Hao chuckled. “What we share isn’t something ordinary people can understand.”
Fred: “…”
