The black-robed figure looked at Qi Shaorong’s calm expression and said unhurriedly, “Does Lord Qi know where that crystal came from?”
Qi Shaorong frowned, suddenly realizing something. “Could it be from the Sea Clan’s forbidden area?”
Since Sea Clan nightwalkers were known to venture into the Luo Clan’s forbidden zones, that multicolored crystal was likely from there.
“It came from my Luo Clan’s Fallen Gods Land. I was injured at the time and didn’t dare go deeper, so I had to retreat,” said the black-robed man regretfully.
Qi Shaorong narrowed his eyes and said, “I see.”
The Fallen Gods Land of the Luo Clan was said to be an ancient battlefield. In ancient times, numerous Saint-level experts clashed in a fierce war there. The elemental forces in that sea area were wildly chaotic, and those with insufficient strength would be shredded to pieces by the lingering killing aura of the battlefield.
“The value of that multicolored crystal is surely clear to you by now. I didn’t know what it was at first, but seeing how much Young Master Zhuanghao’s cultivation advanced, I can guess. Legend has it that a seven-element magic dragon once perished in that forbidden zone.”
Qi Shaorong’s eyes widened in shock. “A seven-element magic dragon? That’s a mythical creature! It’s been gone for ages.”
“If you can heal me, I’ll take you there,” the black-robed nightwalker offered.
Qi Shaorong fell silent. Why would I go somewhere that dangerous? Am I asking to die?
“The Lord cultivates both light and dark elements—very rare indeed. There are few suitable techniques for such dual-attribute cultivators. If I’m right, the Fallen Gods Land also holds the remains of a two-headed dragon that cultivated both light and dark.”
Qi Shaorong’s expression shifted. Dual-element mages were extremely rare, and ancient texts on such paths were scarce. For someone like him to have reached his current level was already an extraordinary feat. Without a lucky opportunity, he might never advance further.
Lowering his head in thought, Qi Shaorong said, “If senior can trust me, I will do my best.”
The black-robed nightwalker smiled. “Then I’ll trouble you, Lord.”
Qi Shaorong stepped out of the hall, with Zhuanghao following behind, face tense.
“What’s with you?” Qi Shaorong asked, noticing Zhuanghao’s grim look.
“Nothing. Just… the Fallen Gods Land sounds dangerous,” Zhuanghao replied.
“It’s fine,” Qi Shaorong said nonchalantly. “He said I can decide when to go. I’ll prepare properly before that.”
“Fair enough,” Zhuanghao agreed.
Meanwhile…
To ensure nothing went wrong, Qi Shaorong cleared out a large surgery room.
Inside, the black-robed nightwalker revealed his true form—a large black dragon with horns and wings. Qi Shaorong stood at the operating table, Zhuanghao assisting at the side.
Qi Shaorong had done many craniotomies before. Removing a parasite from a dragon’s body wasn’t too difficult for him.
Outside the surgery room, chaos erupted in the City Lord’s Mansion.
Princess Ariel had brought several powerful Sea Clan warriors and stormed in, seeking trouble with Bi Liuyun.
Inside, Qi Shaorong moved swiftly with the scalpel, Zhuanghao at his side, both unfazed by the commotion.
Zhuanghao sensed the ruckus but seeing Qi Shaorong deep in concentration, he suppressed his worry. Judging from the auras, the intruders weren’t too strong.
Confrontation in the Courtyard
Ariel glared at Bi Liuyun, her eyes brimming with jealousy.
“Princess Ariel, this is the City Lord’s Mansion. Isn’t it inappropriate for you to barge in with so many people?” Bi Liuyun said coldly, clutching her zither.
Ariel sneered. “Bi Rolling Yun, do you think hiding behind your status scares me?”
Things hadn’t been going well for Ariel. News of the golden mermaid’s emergence had somehow leaked, and the public clamored to support them. Her father’s throne, already unstable, now faced even greater threats.
She’d heard that Sea Clan elders had approached Bi Liuyun, though later it was confirmed that Bi Liuyun was just a human commoner. That had brought Ariel some relief, although some elders still suspected the results were flawed.
“If you’re here to cause trouble, Princess, I’ll gladly entertain you,” Bi Liuyun said with a calm smile.
Ariel raised her hand. “Attack!”
Black Shark stepped forward. “Princess Ariel, isn’t this going too far?”
“Senior Black Shark, you’re Sea Clan! Are you siding with this human trash?” she retorted angrily.
Black Shark frowned. Though he was loyal to Qi Shaorong for now, he wasn’t fond of being scolded by a brat.
“No need to involve Senior Black Shark. This is between the Princess and me,” Bi Liuyun said lightly.
Black Shark: “…”
Cradling her zither, Bi Liuyun smirked. “So many fish… coming to be cooked? Perfect, I’ve been craving a seafood feast.”
Ariel was enraged. “Still running your mouth at death’s door!”
She opened her mouth, singing a strange tune. The flowers in the courtyard exploded from the force.
Bi Liuyun strummed her zither. The clashing melodies filled the air with a deadly force, shaking the courtyard.
Inside the lab, Zhuanghao activated a soundproof shield. Though Qi Shaorong felt nothing, the black dragon on the table twitched slightly.
Even with his skull opened, the dragon could still sense the chaos.
Black Shark, watching from the rooftop, sighed at the scene below.
He eyed Bi Liuyun’s zither skills with a bit of confusion. In terms of sonic attacks, the merfolk were unmatched. Yet Bi Liuyun, using only one instrument, held her ground against multiple opponents.
Just then—
“I’ll help!” Qi Heng shouted, summoning a golden umbrella. With a flick, nine golden throwing knives shot from it.
Black Shark’s eyes twitched. Qi Heng’s aim was brutally precise—all toward the face. Merfolk were especially sensitive about appearances.
But even under the influence of sound waves, the knives strayed. As the melody destabilized, Bi Liuyun found her opening and gained the upper hand—until a powerhouse among Ariel’s group stabilized the tide again.
Bi Liuyun frowned. Most of Ariel’s entourage wasn’t impressive, but she sensed a powerful aura hidden among them.
“Hey! You guys trashing the City Lord’s Mansion—don’t you know when to quit?”
Zhuanghao now stood on the rooftop, sword in hand.
“None of your business! Stay out of it!” Ariel shouted.
Zhuanghao scowled. “Look what you did to the courtyard!”
He waved his sword. Seven-colored light burst from it, and sword energy howled through the air. The attackers were struck down, transforming into their true merfolk forms, flopping helplessly.
Bi Liuyun stared at Zhuanghao in amazement.
Sensing the turn of events, the merfolk tore open teleportation scrolls and vanished.
“Impressive, Young Master Zhuang!” Black Shark praised.
For the first time, he truly respected Zhuanghao’s power—so much so that he secretly felt inferior.
“Where’s the Lord?” Black Shark asked.
Zhuanghao shot him a glance. “Resting.”
Black Shark awkwardly chuckled and backed off.
Zhuanghao stepped inside. Bi Liuyun followed.
“Thanks for your help, Young Master Zhuang.”
Zhuanghao glanced at her. “You’re one of Shaorong’s people. No need for thanks. What do you think of today’s attackers?”
Bi Liuyun narrowed her eyes. “Some were tricky. Doesn’t seem like they came just to make trouble.”
“They were testing you. One of them was an eighth-level expert. Didn’t go all-out though. Probably still doubting whether you’re really human,” Zhuanghao said.
Bi Liuyun collapsed into a chair. “Great… I don’t want to be the Merfolk Clan’s ‘glory.’”
Zhuanghao rolled his eyes. “Even if you wanted to be, it’s not guaranteed you’d succeed.”
“…You’re so punchable right now,” she muttered—but he had a point.
“Your strength’s improved a lot,” Zhuanghao noted.
Bi Liuyun nodded. “I think so. The Heart of the Merfolk contains the cultivation secrets of the Golden Merfolk. When I resonate with it, I can hear teachings from countless ancestors.”
Zhuanghao smiled. “Keep growing stronger.”
Bi Liuyun nodded solemnly. “I will. Power is everything.”
