TRWSB – Chapter 117 An Unexpected Turn Of Events

Muxing Xuan looked at Kuang Yi with a cold and detached expression. “Elder, what happened to your legs? Did you commit so many shameful deeds that even the heavens couldn’t turn a blind eye?”

Kuang Yi gave a bitter smile and said, “My legs were broken by your father.”

Muxing Xuan’s eyebrows twitched, and his fists clenched instinctively.

For years, Muxing Xuan had been unable to let go of his resentment toward Mu Xingzhi. Yet, if he hadn’t harbored expectations of his father, he wouldn’t have remained so fixated.

Yifan coldly glared at Kuang Yi and said, “So, it seems the prophecy you made about Xuan back then was indeed problematic?”

Kuang Yi pressed his lips together, remaining silent.

Yifan lowered his gaze and continued with a sneer, “Elder, do you intend to keep silent? How about this—I’ll bring your daughter here, and you can explain it to her instead. I’ve heard she’s rather unfilial. I could also break her legs, so she can’t run away, and the two of you could keep each other company. Wouldn’t that be nice?”

“Leave my family out of this,” Kuang Yi snapped, his gaze suddenly sharp.

Yifan crossed his arms and laughed indifferently. “You gave a newborn child such a damning prophecy, and now you’re lecturing me?”

Kuang Yi remained silent.

After a deep sigh, he looked at Muxing Xuan and said, “I should’ve seen this coming. When I made that prophecy, I anticipated a day like today.”

Closing his eyes, Kuang Yi continued, “A person’s fate can be altered. When you were born, your destiny could have gone one of two ways. One path was glory and success, helping the Mu family reach greater heights. The other was a troubled life, with a strong possibility that the Mu family would be destroyed by your hand.”

Muxing Xuan clenched his fists tighter. A single thought can lead to salvation or damnation, he thought. So, I wasn’t born a harbinger of disaster, after all. “How much did Mu Yue Shan pay you to twist my fate like that?”

“Mu Yue Shan threatened my daughter’s life,” Kuang Yi admitted. “He was the heir of the Mu family; I had no choice but to obey his commands.”

Muxing Xuan scoffed. “Oh, Great Diviner, spare me the excuses. If you truly hadn’t wanted to comply, who could have forced you?”

Kuang Yi looked at him, his expression heavy with regret. “Regardless, I am deeply sorry.”

Muxing Xuan sneered. “Do you think those words hold any meaning now?”

With a forced smile, Kuang Yi replied, “Perhaps not. Whether by coincidence or the hand of fate, your prophecy became reality. When I saw you again, disfigured and scarred, I realized that the scar on your face destroyed your original features, altering your destiny to align with my earlier prediction.”

Muxing Xuan’s tone dripped with sarcasm. “Marvelous. The Great Diviner speaks, and reality bends to match.”

“What a tragedy,” Kuang Yi murmured bitterly.

Muxing Xuan gritted his teeth. “Luckily for me, I found a worthy master to serve, and now the Mu family’s end is at hand.”

Kuang Yi gazed at him. “Young Master Mu, have mercy where mercy is due.”

“Elder, that’s easy for you to say,” Muxing Xuan retorted icily. “You weren’t the one abandoned by your family or robbed of your Wood Spirit Heart. Your words are worthless to me.”

Kuang Yi sighed heavily. “Retribution comes for us all. I take full responsibility for my actions and hope it ends with me.”

Suddenly, Kuang Yi slumped in his chair, motionless.

Yifan stepped forward to examine him and turned to Muxing Xuan. “He had a poison capsule hidden in his mouth. He just bit into it and died.”

Muxing Xuan’s face darkened. “He’s dead? How convenient for him.”

He clenched his fists, a sense of unease weighing on his chest. For years, he had loathed the fortune-teller who condemned him, yet now, standing over the man’s lifeless body, he felt no satisfaction.

Yifan looked at Kuang Yi and said, “Hiding poison like a death soldier? He must have known his time was coming. Guilt, perhaps?”

Muxing Xuan looked away. “Let’s leave.”

Yifan nodded. “Alright.”

“It’s raining,” Yifan remarked, opening an umbrella to shield Muxing Xuan from the downpour.

Muxing Xuan pulled his coat tighter. “The wind’s picking up. It feels a bit chilly.”

Yifan wrapped an arm around him, sending a wave of warmth through his body.

Muxing Xuan felt warmth spread from head to toe. Turning his head, he looked at Yifan. “Your fire magic is impressive. I don’t feel cold at all anymore.”

Yifan smiled. “As long as you’re comfortable.”

“Let’s go.”

Muxing Xuan nodded. “Alright.”

A middle-aged man in gray robes stood silently in the rain, watching them intently.

Yifan glanced at Muxing Xuan. “Xuan, that man is staring at you.”

Muxing Xuan furrowed his brow. “Just a madman. Ignore him. Let’s go.”

Yifan nodded. “Alright.” He held Muxing Xuan close as they passed by the gray-robed man.

The man stood motionless, watching Muxing Xuan’s retreating figure. He seemed to want to approach but ultimately stayed rooted in place.

Muxu Tingxuan lowered his head, walking beside Yifan, never looking back.

Yifan glanced at Muxu Tingxuan, noticing the faint pallor on his lips and the dull expression on his face.

After a moment of hesitation, Yifan said, “That person… he wasn’t really a madman, was he?”

Muxu Tingxuan gave Yifan a brief glance before replying, “You’ve already guessed, haven’t you? He’s… my father.”

Yifan regarded Muxu Tingxuan seriously and said, “Aren’t you going to say something to him? Deep down, you’ve always wanted his care, haven’t you?”

Muxu Tingxuan closed his eyes and said softly, “When I was young, I really wanted it… but it never came. Now, I don’t need it anymore.”

Yifan gently patted Muxu Tingxuan on the shoulder and said, “Don’t worry. I’ll always be here for you…”

At the Mu family estate.

“Kuang Yi is dead?” Mu Yueshan asked.

“Yes. Two people visited Kuang Yi today, and shortly after, he took his own life,” replied one of the family elders.

Mu Yueshan clenched his fists and said, “Then there’s no longer any doubt.”

Although Mu Yueshan had already linked Muxu Tingxuan to the attacks on the Mu family by Qi Shaorong, he always suspected there might be more to the story. Kuang Yi’s death confirmed his suspicions.

“Kuang Yi committed suicide?”

“It seems that Muxu Tingxuan forced him into it.”

Mu Yueshan’s eyes narrowed. “That little ingrate is truly ruthless.”

“What should we do now, Young Master?”

“That scoundrel Qi Shaorong used Feng Yuan to target the Mu family. What benefit could he possibly gain? Is it really worth all this for a mere subordinate?” Mu Yueshan closed his eyes, exhaustion evident on his face.

Back at the villa, Zhuang Hao opened the door and greeted the returning Muxu Tingxuan and Yifan. “You’re back! Come in quickly.”

Muxu Tingxuan nodded and asked, “Young Master Zhuang, I heard you were attacked during your trip with the young master?”

“Oh, it was just a petty thief who stole some money from your young master. We chased him down and had a little scuffle. Nothing serious,” Zhuang Hao replied nonchalantly.

Muxu Tingxuan apologized, “I’m sorry for the trouble, Young Master Zhuang.”

Zhuang Hao waved it off. “You’re being too polite. It was no big deal. Don’t worry about it.”

After exchanging a few pleasantries, Muxu Tingxuan excused himself to rest in the guest room. This left Yifan and Zhuang Hao alone in the courtyard.

As soon as Muxu Tingxuan left, Zhuang Hao’s demeanor became much more casual.

“Any progress during your trip?” Zhuang Hao asked, eyes gleaming with curiosity.

Yifan pursed his lips and replied, “Muxu Tingxuan and I have always had a good relationship.”

Zhuang Hao raised an eyebrow and said, “Always good, huh? So, no real progress then? At this rate, you’re going to stay single for life!”

Annoyed, Yifan shot back, “As if you’ve made any real progress with the young master yourself.”

Zhuang Hao rubbed his chin and sighed. “Well, not yet. But no matter what, I’m still ahead of you.”

Yifan sneered, “Oh? Care to elaborate on how you’re ahead?”

Zhuang Hao grinned. “You must have forgotten—we’re engaged.”

Yifan rolled his eyes. “Don’t make me remind you how you forced that engagement through a binding contract. The young master would never have agreed otherwise, so it doesn’t count.”

“Actually, your young master has secretly admired me for a long time. Remember during the Grand Academy Battle? He touched me—tried to pull my pants down, even. Oh wait, you were competing back then, so you probably didn’t see it. No worries, I have a recording stone if you want to watch,” Zhuang Hao said with a smug expression.

Yifan: “…”

Zhuang Hao crossed his arms and continued proudly, “And your young master even praised my skin—said it’s smooth!”

Yifan: “…”

Suddenly, Zhuang Hao tilted his head and asked, “By the way, have you held Muxu Tingxuan’s hand yet?”

Yifan scowled but replied, “Yes, I have.”

Zhuang Hao nodded thoughtfully. “Oh, so you’ve held hands. I thought you hadn’t made any progress at all with how slow you are.”

Yifan glared at Zhuang Hao, his tone sharp. “Muxu Tingxuan has high standards. Who knows? You might get dumped someday. I suggest you don’t get too complacent.”

Zhuang Hao shrugged, unconcerned. “Thanks for the advice. But instead of worrying about me, you should focus on yourself. Let me tell you something—your young master has been secretly in love with me all this time. He’s just too shy to admit it.”

Yifan: “…Zhuang Hao, your self-confidence is truly remarkable.”

Zhuang Hao smiled confidently.

Yifan’s expression darkened. “By the way, I’m going to tell the young master everything you just said—word for word.”

Zhuang Hao stiffened. “Why would you do that?!”

Yifan: “…”
