Ling Ruoxi struggled, wanting to check on Huangfu Xuan, but Luo Mingyu’s piercing gaze immediately made her submit.
She had the servants bring hot water to gently clean her wound. Luo Mingyu’s brows were already furrowed in a tight “川” shape. The man in front of her had no Dou Qi at all. His flat lower abdomen bore five clear claw marks, the surrounding flesh swollen and bruised. Thankfully, the injuries hadn’t reached the internal organs—otherwise, Ling Huiru would have been killed without question!
“Ow, ow, ow!” The man teasingly pressed against her wound. Ling Ruoxi nearly cried, quickly grabbing Luo Mingyu’s hand to stop him.
Raising an eyebrow, Luo Mingyu snorted coldly. “Feeling pain now? Then why didn’t you protect yourself properly? Look at yourself!”
“I didn’t know she’d attack suddenly! Besides, it didn’t even hurt at first!” Ling Ruoxi pouted, still confused, and looked at him. “How did you know something happened to me?”
“The screams just now… I don’t know whose they were, but they were louder than pigs being slaughtered. The entire capital must have heard. Could I not hear?” Luo Mingyu applied ointment to her wound, frowning. With a touch of his fingertip, purple Dou Qi spread over the injury.
The purple Dou Qi entered her body. Ling Ruoxi instinctively relaxed her hands as the cooling energy coursed through her meridians. The shallow wound on her abdomen visibly began to heal before her eyes.
“Wow… amazing! How did you do that?” Ling Ruoxi’s eyes widened. She had never seen anything so miraculous. Could Dou Qi really accelerate the body’s self-healing?
Luo Mingyu retracted the ointment and stood. “Every Dou Qi Master has the ability to heal themselves. Your wound is shallow—you don’t need much Dou Qi. But Huangfu Xuan’s injuries are severe, and his internal organs are damaged. You can’t save him alone.”
“Good bro, I know you can do it! Go, go, go! Use Dou Qi to repair Huangfu Xuan’s organs, please, please?” Ling Ruoxi clasped her hands together, blinking innocently at Luo Mingyu, a playful smile on her lips.
Luo Mingyu snorted coldly, grabbing her cheek. “What did you just call me? Good bro? No, call me Mingyu!”
“Brother Mingyu, I beg you!” Ling Ruoxi patted his shoulder and smiled.
Before she could celebrate, a ruthless slap landed on her behind. “I’m who to you?”
“You…” Her mind caught up with the memory of the earlier scene. Her face flushed red. This… this man had declared in front of so many people that she was his woman! When did this happen? She had only… been with him once! How could he be so shameless?
Luo Mingyu’s lips curved into a faint smile. “Remember now? Looks like you haven’t lost your wits. Kiss me, and I’ll repair his organs.”
“You… are pushing your luck!” Ling Ruoxi glared at him, then quickly tiptoed and planted a kiss on his lips. “Alright, save him.”
“No, the lips.” Luo Mingyu bent slightly, looking at her with those narrow, cunning phoenix eyes. Ling Ruoxi felt like she was walking into a wolf’s den but had no choice. She kissed him, then quickly stepped back. “Okay, save him.”
“Ah, so eager to save this man?” Luo Mingyu stepped forward, grabbing her jaw. “In front of me, don’t even think of other men! Even if he got hurt for you, your heart can only belong to me!”
“First… first save him…” Ling Ruoxi stammered, trying to shift her focus to the bed.
But his firm hand forced her gaze back. “Did you hear me? Say it out loud.”
“Yes…” Under his commanding eyes, her mind froze. She barely made a sound when Luo Mingyu pressed his lips to hers. Before she could embrace him, he released her jaw and moved toward the bed.
What was happening? Ling Ruoxi touched her lips instinctively, shivering at his overwhelming presence. Despite the discomfort, the care felt… surprisingly comforting.
Huangfu Xuan lay on the bed, pale as paper. Luo Mingyu’s brow furrowed slightly. He extended his hand, purple Dou Qi flowing over Huangfu Xuan’s abdomen, rapidly repairing his wounds.
Through the wounds, Luo Mingyu saw the black toxin still roaming inside Huangfu Xuan and frowned. Then he noticed the eighty-four silver needles. “You forced all his toxins out?” he asked coldly.
“Ah? Yes, I was afraid the toxin would reach his heart, so I forced it out with the needles. Why?” Ling Ruoxi quickly checked Huangfu Xuan’s pulse, her expression changing drastically.
Her method had been correct—but she had overlooked one thing. Now that Luo Mingyu was repairing Huangfu Xuan’s organs, the expelled toxins would flow inside his body along with the Dou Qi! This meant Huangfu Xuan could be poisoned again, and later even the needles might fail to remove the toxin.
Her face changed dramatically. “No! We have to do this together! The toxins must be controlled by me. You focus on repairing him with Dou Qi!”
She closed her eyes, searching for solutions, but none could be applied now. Time was critical. She quickly drew silver needles and pierced Huangfu Xuan. The unconscious man’s eyes shot open from the pain, but he couldn’t cry out—the needles had sealed his tongue.
“I’ll force all the toxins to the wounds. When you withdraw your Dou Qi, the toxins will leave with it. Don’t let any remain!” Ling Ruoxi focused, swiftly plunging the needles into Huangfu Xuan.
Luo Mingyu’s gaze was calm as purple Dou Qi flowed over Huangfu Xuan. His organs were repaired, and the outer wounds healed.
Sweat dripped down her forehead as Ling Ruoxi increased her pace. With each needle, the black toxins were pushed toward the wounds, corroding the healing tissue.
Pain racked Huangfu Xuan. His eyes widened, he gasped, but the tongue needles silenced him. He could only clutch the bed sheets, watching the two working over him.
“Endure it, Huangfu Xuan. Once the toxins are cleared, you’ll return to your former self. Just a little more to suppress your Dou Qi!” Ling Ruoxi’s final needle drained all her strength.
Luo Mingyu chose the exact moment. As the last trace of toxin was expelled, he pulled sharply. Black blood erupted from Huangfu Xuan, splattering across the floor.
“Ah!” Pain! Blue Dou Qi exploded. The eighty-four needles shot out. Huangfu Xuan flipped onto the bed, panting, trying to speak, but exhaustion overwhelmed him, and he collapsed into a deep sleep.
“Done… done…” Ling Ruoxi smiled weakly, barely supporting herself, looking at Luo Mingyu. “Thank… you…”
Before she could finish, her vision went dark, her legs gave way.
“You fool.” Luo Mingyu caught her swiftly, gently patting her back. He carried her to his room carefully.
“Uncle, Uncle, how’s Huangfu Daddy? Mom, what’s wrong?” Yizhui and Yimeng hurried over but froze seeing Ling Ruoxi in Luo Mingyu’s arms.
Luo Mingyu smiled faintly. “Listen carefully. Call me Daddy, understand? Huangfu Xuan is fine. Your mother is tired and needs rest.”
“Daddy? Do we have a new Daddy? And he’s so cool?” Yizhui’s jaw dropped. Yimeng clapped with him.
“Quiet. Be good. Your mother is tired. Daddy will take her to rest. Don’t disturb us,” Luo Mingyu instructed.
“Yes, we’ll be quiet!” Yimeng whispered, holding Yizhui’s hand as they ran downstairs.
Luo Mingyu smiled helplessly, opening the door to lay Ling Ruoxi gently on the bed. She was still the same as six years ago: fragile, unwilling to take care of herself. Even he couldn’t endure giving over a hundred needles continuously; how could a woman like her?
“You fool.” Luo Mingyu gently rubbed her head, pulling the covers over her, smiling softly.
“Get… away!” Ling Huiru screamed, smashing a vase to the ground like an enraged tiger, ignoring all reason.
