Jiang Yu opened his eyes and looked at everyone around him. A trace of helplessness flashed across his cold face as he said softly, “It’s all my fault. I couldn’t stop them. My four older brothers, for the sake of our master, channeled their Purple Bamboo Qi, but Baili Wushuang exploited a weakness, so the five of us ended up severely injured like this.”
“Phew… it’s alright. I thought her strength might have seriously injured all of you. Don’t worry, you should rest and recover first. Meanwhile, I’ll study my father’s vitality and calculate the best way to treat him.” Ling Ruoxi exhaled deeply. From this, it seemed Baili Wushuang was nothing more than someone who took advantage of others’ vulnerabilities. By choosing this moment to act, she inadvertently revealed that her strength was still inferior to the Purple Bamboo Needles.
Her eyes flickered with sharp insight. Ling Ruoxi was grateful for the connection she shared with the five Purple Bamboo. Without the outwardly projected spiritual energy she had injected into them, she wouldn’t have sensed that the five Purple Bamboo were injured.
“I’m sorry.” Jiang Yu looked at her, a glimmer of regret in his eyes, and instinctively lowered his head. If it weren’t for them, things wouldn’t have ended up like this, and now they couldn’t even help their master.
Even the proud Purple Bamboo bowed their heads, too intimidated to meet Ling Ruoxi’s gaze.
Clapping her hands together, Ling Ruoxi took a deep breath and smiled faintly. “There’s no need to apologize. It’s fine as long as you’re okay. Thank you for guarding my father here. Also, my father’s body is protected by a defensive magical beast. Even if we combined our strength, we couldn’t harm him, let alone Baili Wushuang. You all should rest while I study my father’s body.”
Focusing deeply, she infused all her spiritual energy into Ling Feng’s body, following his frozen meridians. Ling Ruoxi waited for the right moment; only when the opportunity arose could she awaken the man in seclusion.
The five nearby also calmed themselves, recovering their strength.
Murong Ming stayed guard just in case. If Baili Wushuang’s people returned, there would be no room for regret.
“What’s your plan?” Nangong Mo asked softly, long fingers resting on a chessboard as he examined pieces with no escape. He sighed and placed a white piece into the container.
Luo Mingyu set down his black piece and looked at him indifferently, his jade-like fingers intertwined in front of him. “What plan? Of course, to live a simple life with Ruoxi. But fate is cruel. Someone who should have died two or three years ago has now turned demonic. The entire continent is shaken. We must first finish our current affairs before finding a quiet place to settle.”
“Once all is done, do you plan to retire quietly outside the empire, like Qiongyu Immortal Island, away from worldly troubles?” Nangong Mo pinched the bridge of his nose, tilting his head. Surely, the person before him understood the implication.
Luo Mingyu’s star-like eyes flickered with sharpness. He wasn’t stupid; he understood Nangong Mo perfectly. Casually holding a chess piece, he said lightly, “Yes, and I’ll establish a peace treaty with you. I won’t be your enemy or start a war. But those who can serve me must be those I can actually use—don’t sabotage yourself instead.”
Nangong Mo inhaled sharply. Luo Mingyu had no intention of joining his empire, and his proud nature would never stay willingly.
Holding the chess piece, Nangong Mo nodded. “Since you’ve said so, I won’t ask for anything more. With the ancestors back, even as emperor, I’ve been unworthy, letting the people suffer.”
“Don’t worry, I—”
“Boom!”
Before he could finish, a mushroom cloud erupted in the sky from the direction of the forbidden land, rapidly spreading across the horizon.
The chess piece trembled in Luo Mingyu’s hand. He rose quickly, eyes fixed on the scene. “That direction… isn’t it the forbidden land? Could it be Baili Wushuang’s people again…”
Before he could finish, the white figure vanished.
Nangong Mo’s jaw nearly dropped. He reached to grab Luo Mingyu, but the figure had already disappeared. “Hey, Mingyu! At least wait for me! Why run so fast? No one’s chasing you…”
“Bang!”
Five figures were blasted out, including a person in green robes, covered in dirt and dust, nearly plastered to the walls. The five small figures were even more ridiculous, dangling from tree trunks, half-dead. Gone was any trace of the Purple Bamboo Needles’ majesty.
“You guys?” Luo Mingyu frowned and strode inside. The ice cave was now filled with smoke and dust. Yet even like this, the cave hadn’t collapsed—just how strong must the force have been to fling five Purple Bamboo and Murong Ming?
The fragile figure in front crawled out like a cat, face and hair filthy, looking completely miserable.
Luo Mingyu’s lips twitched. He knelt, gently held Ling Ruoxi’s head, and lifted her, striding out of the ice cave.
“Cough… hey, Mingyu, what are you doing? Put me down… hey!” Ling Ruoxi almost laughed at the sight of those dangling figures but was pulled by the force, coughing through her injuries.
Carefully placing her on a bed, Luo Mingyu frowned. “What are you doing? How did you make so much noise?”
“Well, it’s my father’s fault. I was trying to track his life force and block it with fighting energy, but it backfired, causing all that commotion. I’m fine though; my body is much stronger than before. This small injury will heal with some rest.” Ling Ruoxi patted her chest and exhaled, eyes flicking forward, a little hesitant.
Luo Mingyu wanted to say more but, seeing her like this, swallowed his words. “Don’t bottle things up. Just say it.”
“Hmm… Mingyu, I think Dad’s situation is… special.” Ling Ruoxi rested her chin on one hand, frowning, eyes flickering as she quickly sat on the stool beside Luo Mingyu and picked up paper and brush.
“Normally, a person’s vitality is limited; life has an end. Fighting energy extends vitality. The stronger the energy, the longer the life. But Dad’s vitality is fully fused with fighting energy. In other words, his life has no time limit!” Ling Ruoxi inhaled sharply. Her own discovery had startled her. No wonder waking her father caused such a commotion.
She picked up her brush and drew. “I don’t know how to explain it. His life force is in a complete sleep. This isn’t due to seclusion; he put himself into this state. It’s hard to understand. Don’t mind my guess. For now… even using Purple Bamboo Needles may not wake him from seclusion!”
“What should we do?” Luo Mingyu frowned, noticing her confusion, and gently wiped the dust from her cheek.
Ling Ruoxi smirked, resting her chin on her hand. “I don’t know either, haha…”
A cold aura spread, the grand hall silent. The woman above laughed seductively, inspecting her injured right hand, skin nearly peeling.
A cold glint flashed in her eyes. She smiled and said, voice echoing hollowly through the hall, “Ling Feng… you dare wound me! Good! You like seclusion? Then I’ll make sure you remain in it forever!”
“Queen, are we attacking Duanyun Kingdom?” someone below asked, not daring to breathe.
A smile curled her lips. The deranged woman lightly touched her right hand. “No need. All Blood Guards follow me to the ice cave. As for you… burn, pillage, and distract everyone in the Duanyun imperial city!”
“Yes!” The shadow disappeared like the wind.
The endless night spread, as if swallowing the sky. The cold storm swept in. The agile figure moved like lightning, infiltrating the imperial city silently, undetected even by the guards.
Night was terrifyingly dark. The figure rose and vanished instantly.
“Dry weather—be careful with fire!” someone carrying a lamp walked down the street, yawning.
But before he could move further, a silver light flashed and sliced his neck in an instant. His bloodied head fell, nearly staining the city red.
Blood pooled endlessly. The black figure grew even more rampant. Flames ignited, and burning oil poured over a newborn, throwing the small life into the fire.
