The standing army had not yet reacted when the silvery-white figure had already crushed down upon them. In an instant, screams erupted everywhere. The Silver Wolf leapt off the mountain peak and raced swiftly toward the battlefield.
Behind it, the Five-Clawed Golden Dragon suddenly burst forward. Its golden body tore through the ranks of the army. With a single step, countless soldiers were trampled into pulp beneath its feet, dying under its claws. It spewed out a mouthful of flames, turning the long formation of troops into a blazing fire dragon. Endless screams ripped through the sky.
An army of a million—under the tearing and biting of the Five-Clawed Golden Dragon—was reduced by more than half.
“Bastard!” Lie Yun’s eyes were nearly bursting from their sockets as he glared fiercely at the two magical beasts ahead and roared, “Come back, Golden Dragon! Return to the imperial city!”
“Roar!” Completely ignoring Lie Yun, the Five-Clawed Golden Dragon had already gone berserk. The thick stench of blood stimulated it, its eyes glowing crimson as a bloodthirsty light flashed past. Its two claws slammed heavily into the army.
With its mouth wide open, it sucked in all the corpses on the ground—along with the screaming soldiers—swallowing them whole.
Even the Silver Wolf ahead couldn’t help but shiver. This million-strong army might really be eaten clean by the Five-Clawed Golden Dragon in one go! But what about Ruoxi? If this dragged on any longer, she might end up being digested and… expelled!
Thinking of this, the Silver Wolf broke out in a cold sweat. It could only pray that the dragon’s digestion was slow enough so it could beat the contents out of its stomach.
“Roar!” With a full-body tremor, the Silver Wolf swiftly turned back. Its nine tails lashed out simultaneously toward the Five-Clawed Golden Dragon, its Dou Qi erupting in full force. Seeing the dragon tail sweeping toward it, the Golden Dragon sensed danger. Its massive body twisted, transforming into human form as it quickly dove into the army.
“Quick, stop him!”
“Heavens, stop the Five-Clawed Golden Dragon! It’s coming—it’s gone mad!”
“General, save us! Run!”
The howling screams continued without end. Soldiers who hadn’t managed to escape were crushed under a single step, turned into flesh paste. Meanwhile, that silver figure flashed rapidly, weaving through the troops.
This method really worked!
The Silver Wolf’s lips curled upward. Spinning around, it looked at the Five-Clawed Golden Dragon behind it and took advantage of the moment to kick it hard in the abdomen. The not-yet-sentient dragon flipped violently and smashed into the mountain range. Its mouth opened wide, spewing out countless severed limbs and broken bodies.
“Haha, Lie Yun, that Five-Clawed Golden Dragon you brought is really useful. Now this is truly dogs biting dogs.” With a raised smile, Nangong Mo retreated quickly. His right hand, hidden behind his back, was already drenched in blood, trembling uncontrollably.
As for Lie Yun, his Dou Qi surged as he stared at the Five-Clawed Golden Dragon and shouted angrily, “Shut up! You outsider brat—what right do you have to inherit the throne? Maybe you’re just impersonating royal blood! Even if you really are a prince, so what? You’re just a useless little punk! Do you understand the Duanyun Kingdom? Do you know its internal conflicts? This throne should have been mine in the first place!”
“Heh…”
A soft laugh escaped Nangong Mo. Dou Qi flickered in his right hand, completely healing the wound. Pointing his sword at Lie Yun, he said coldly, “Is that so? I’m not suitable, but you are? At least I wouldn’t treat Duanyun Kingdom the way you do. I wouldn’t rebel like you!”
“Hmph!” A flash of light passed through Lie Yun’s eyes as he rushed forward. The force in his hand smashed heavily into Nangong Mo’s longsword. Nangong Mo’s expression changed drastically as he was hurled backward, crashing into the city wall, while Lie Yun’s figure flew onward toward the mountainside.
“Damn it, stop!” Lie Yun roared, his hands slamming down onto the Five-Clawed Golden Dragon’s head.
With a mournful howl, the dragon suddenly sank into the ground. Its entire body tensed, red light flashing in its eyes. Staring at Lie Yun, it opened its mouth wide—crack!—and bit Lie Yun cleanly in half!
…!
Everyone froze, staring in horror at the Five-Clawed Golden Dragon.
Lie Yun… Lie Yun had been eaten by that magical beast?
Even the Silver Wolf was stunned. None of them had expected that although the Five-Clawed Golden Dragon acknowledged Lie Yun as its master, it had never truly submitted. After repeated attacks from Lie Yun, the dragon turned on him and ended his life in a single bite.
Such a dramatic scene left everyone dumbfounded—and it was exactly the ending Lie Yun deserved.
“Roar!” As if realizing its mistake, the Five-Clawed Golden Dragon opened its mouth and spat out the upper half of Lie Yun’s body. But the corpse on the ground was long dead, eyes bulging, never imagining he would die by the dragon’s jaws.
“Idiot. I say you really have no brains. Serves you right. Now what are you going to do? Your master’s dead—I think you’re about ready to get lost too.” The Silver Wolf raised an eyebrow and laughed, casually kicking aside a spear, seemingly forgetting that it was currently standing amid an army of a million—well, about five hundred thousand now.
The remorseful Five-Clawed Golden Dragon slammed the ground violently. Its round eyes stared at the corpse before it let out a furious roar, suddenly ignoring everything else. Opening its mouth wide, it began to inhale fiercely.
The surrounding corpses—Lie Yun included—were all sucked into its mouth. Its body stretched as it shot up into the air. The golden body surged skyward, then began to struggle strangely. Its massive tail smashed against the mountain ridge as golden light flickered all over its body. It slammed its head into the ridge, crimson eyes blazing as it roared in rage.
“What… what’s wrong with this dragon?” The Silver Wolf was briefly stunned. Then information flashed through its mind, and a grin crept onto its face. The silvery-white figure vanished abruptly from the land.
On the mountains, people screamed in terror. That magnificent scene had vanished in an instant. Even General Lie Yun was dead—what was the point of staying here? The soldiers immediately rolled and fled down the mountain.
Boulders tumbled, logs crashed down, and casualties were countless.
“Your Highness, this…” The soldiers nearby were dumbfounded. Fortunately, those armies were ten li away and hadn’t been affected. If they had chosen to station themselves beneath the city walls, they would have been utterly helpless against the Five-Clawed Golden Dragon.
“Buzz!”
Purple light flared once more from the center of the imperial city, spreading outward and enveloping it completely. The barrier had been restored. Even if the army wanted to enter the city, it wouldn’t be easy anymore!
“It’s done!” Qingyi let out a long breath, wiping the sweat from his brow. With a flick of his hand, he scattered medicinal powder into the air.
The heavy stench of blood faded, replaced by a faint, refreshing fragrance. The writhing Five-Clawed Golden Dragon froze abruptly. Its red eyes trembled as the crimson aura gradually dissipated. Still, it continued rolling on the ground in pain, struggling nonstop.
“Did this dragon overeat?” Qingyi stared in shock, his eyes nearly popping out. As if realizing something, the corners of his mouth lifted.
Boom!
The next moment, a figure burst out from the dragon’s abdomen. Purple light tore open a massive hole as countless corpses rained down. In midair stood two figures—one black, one white.
“Roar!” With a miserable cry, the Five-Clawed Golden Dragon crashed heavily to the ground, its enormous body leaning against the mountain ridge. Corpses spilled from its belly, some not yet fully dead, fingers twitching faintly.
“So impressive—actually thinking of attacking from the inside. Brilliant, absolutely brilliant!” The Silver Wolf couldn’t help giving a thumbs-up, laughing loudly, its eyes curved like crescent moons.
Wiping the sweat from her face, Ling Ruoxi held her spear upside down and said coldly, “Who told it to eat me?”
“You make it sound like it wasn’t allowed to,” the Silver Wolf retorted irritably, raising an eyebrow. “So what are we doing with this dragon—roasting it or something? Qingyi’s medicine really worked. And thanks to you changing plans at the last minute and having me lead this stinking thing here, Lie Yun’s million-strong army was destroyed. Though that means Qian Yi went out to borrow troops for nothing.”
“Go!” As if recalling something, Ling Ruoxi’s face changed drastically. She sprang to her feet. “Watch this dragon! Qian Yi is in trouble!”
“What?” Before the Silver Wolf could react, the black figure had already leapt away at full speed.
Scratching his head, the Silver Wolf stared ahead in confusion. What could have happened to Qian Yi? Could borrowing troops really go wrong?
Whoosh!
Eleven figures suddenly blocked the way ahead. Icy killing intent gathered around them. Corpses still littered the ground, but their hearts felt as cold as an ice cellar.
The longspear was thrust into the ground. The person kneeling on one knee wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth with a grim expression, her icy eyes fixed forward. “You lackeys—move aside!”
“Move aside? So you can go borrow troops?” Jiang Wei sneered coldly. Frosty light burst from his eyes as he waved his right hand. His longsword tore through the air as he lunged forward, slashing toward Qian Yi’s head.
The kneeling figure retreated quickly, yanking the spear up to block with a loud clang. But her strength was far inferior to the eleven before her, and being besieged, all her energy was drained away. The spear flew from her grasp, and her face turned ashen.
If I don’t die, you won’t die.
But now… it was too late.
As the blade drew near, Qian Yi closed her eyes in despair. Yet she felt no pain. Opening her eyes in confusion, she froze.
“You—!”
A man in purple stood before her. Cold light flashed in his black eyes. Purple Dou Qi shielded him, but his entire body was covered in wounds, looking utterly battered and disheveled.
