The flying sword that came whistling through the air vanished into nothingness in that instant. The twelve streams of Dou Qi completely scattered, and the figure standing in midair looked coldly at the elite troops ahead.
Impossible. How could a Green-tier Dou Qi practitioner break through his defenses—his barrier? Yet his gaze paused on one person in front of him, and his pupils abruptly shrank.
Among the elite, a slender figure slowly removed her helmet and tossed her armor aside. The corners of her lips lifted slightly, revealing a faint smile.
It was her—Ling Ruoxi… She had known it all along. She had been able to break the barrier in one strike, yet deliberately stayed until the end, just to draw their attention and make them relax their defenses. In the end, it would be them who would die without a burial place!
“Bang!” The figure in midair was suddenly sent flying, crashing hard into the ground.
The other eleven streaks of light rushed toward the East Gate. The eleven men who gathered there quickly caught Jiang Wei. Dou Qi pierced through his body; his internal organs had already been blasted apart. The man lying there was well and truly dead.
“Big brother!” Jiang Feng’s eyes were bloodshot. He clenched his fists tightly and glared up at the person on the city wall.
Third brother Jiang Yu’s face changed drastically. Gripping Jiang Wei’s hand, his sharp teeth bit through his own lip until it bled. He had never imagined that they would be defeated like this!
This woman was truly detestable!
“Those who bring disaster upon themselves cannot live. When someone is overly confident, it becomes arrogance—and arrogance only leads to self-destruction.”
With a slight upward curl of her lips, Ling Ruoxi stood atop the city wall, propping her chin with both hands, smiling faintly as she looked at the army below.
The battle hadn’t even begun, yet they had already lost a general. Lie Yun really was willing to pay such a price. As for him—where would he be now?
“You… you vile woman! I’ll kill you and avenge my big brother!” Roaring in rage, Jiang Feng disregarded everything else. With a flick of his right hand, a flying sword appeared in his grip as he charged toward the city wall.
A cold glint flashed in Qian Yi’s eyes. “I’ll handle this!” She slapped her right hand against the wall and shot out like lightning. The long spear in her hand swept toward her opponent.
How could Jiang Yu tolerate this? With a furious roar, ignoring everyone’s attempts to stop him, he flicked his flying sword and struck back toward Ling Ruoxi.
“Heh, how ridiculous. Do you really think this kind of reckless attack can kill me?” Ling Ruoxi wasn’t nervous at all. With a faint smile, the light beside her surged forward, blocking Jiang Yu’s sword.
She rested one hand against her cheek, looking casual as she gazed at them. “You’re no match for me. Let Lie Yun come out. Where is your General Lie Yun?”
“You—hmph! Just you, a cheap woman, dare to challenge General Lie Yun? Keep dreaming!”
The people below all erupted in anger and surged forward—only to be stopped by Jiang Ling, who pressed them back with one hand.
His face turning livid, Jiang Ling said in a deep voice, “All of you, come back. Brothers, look at the situation! Our goal isn’t to kill her—it’s to break into the imperial city! The city’s barrier is already broken. We have a million troops; they only have a hundred thousand!”
“Hahaha…” Hearing this, those who had rushed forward laughed and retreated. Big brother’s death didn’t mean there was no hope. Once they crushed the city before them, they could still utterly overwhelm that woman!
Raising her brows slightly, Ling Ruoxi leaned against the wall and swept her gaze over Jiang Ling. “So, are you entering the city now, or waiting outside?”
“We choose… to attack the city!” With a cold smile, Jiang Feng clapped his hands. The soldiers behind him withdrew, and the heavy trebuchets were pushed forward.
Without the barrier’s protection, the imperial city was like a turtle without its shell. With only a hundred thousand defenders, forcing them to surrender with trebuchets was the best option.
A sharp glint flashed in her eyes. Nangong Mo grabbed Ling Ruoxi’s wrist and said in a low voice, “Is Luo Mingyu ready? They’re using trebuchets. Their destructive power is enormous—once they start firing, more than half the city’s buildings will be destroyed.”
“I know. But… I don’t know his situation either. We can only hold on for now.” A fierce light flashed in Ling Ruoxi’s eyes. She looked at the trebuchets ahead and waved one hand. Purple Dou Qi spread out, shielding the entire wall. “Oh, I forgot to tell you—I’m a Purple-tier Dou Qi practitioner. What I’m best at is medicine. And lately, I’ve also been studying Bagua formations. Do you think you’ll be able to throw stones in?”
Standing on the wall, her hands moved as if drawing something. With a tap of her finger, blood dripped from her middle finger. She smiled faintly as her blood flowed into the formation.
“What are you doing?!” Nangong Mo’s face changed drastically. He stepped back to keep those below from seeing his expression.
Ling Ruoxi lowered her head and said coldly, “There’s no other way for now. I’ll block them with a formation. But the formation will only last for one incense stick’s time. If it isn’t lifted by then, I’ll become the formation’s core—and take the stones myself.”
Imagining those massive stones crashing onto her body, Ling Ruoxi could only smile bitterly. There was no choice. Time was too short; they couldn’t prepare more. Otherwise, would she need to draw a formation on the spot?
“Take it yourself? Are you crazy? If Luo Mingyu doesn’t finish in time, then you’ll—” Nangong Mo’s face darkened as he tried to stop her, only to realize that the final stroke had already fallen. She looked ahead indifferently.
The purple Dou Qi vanished in an instant. She smiled softly. “Relax. I believe in him. He wouldn’t just watch me suffer. I guarantee—he’ll make it.”
“Fire!” Jiang Feng sneered and swung his hand down.
At the same time, Ling Ruoxi shouted coldly, “All trebuchets ready! Archers, in position—release! Kill!”
“Boom!”
Stones shot out simultaneously. Huge boulders crashed into the crowd, scattering the enemy army. Some didn’t even have time to scream before being crushed into pulp.
The stones hurled toward the city smashed into the formation. Purple light flared as the massive rocks were instantly ground into powder.
“Bang!” Arrows flew, felling those at the front. Boulders rolled across the ground, screams echoing endlessly.
“How—how is this possible?! Impossible! How can a formation block our trebuchets? Fire again!” Jiang Feng stared in horror, his face pale.
Stone after stone smashed toward the wall, but each was shattered by the purple Dou Qi, unable to enter the city at all. At this rate, even if all their troops died, they still wouldn’t be able to harm those inside!
A flash of insight crossed Jiang Yu’s eyes as he sneered, “Second brother, everything has its limits. We don’t believe her formation can last forever. Keep firing!”
Countless boulders smashed into the formation, turning to dust before everyone’s eyes.
Time passed, little by little.
As another boulder struck the formation and shattered in a flash of purple light, the person on the wall suddenly turned and walked downward.
Nangong Mo’s face changed drastically. He rushed after her, grabbed her wrist fiercely, and turned her around—only for his pupils to shrink. Her lips were covered in blood. Though the formation shattered the stones, she herself was still being injured!
“Why are you so foolish? He’s not done yet!” Nangong Mo roared.
Blood kept spilling from her mouth. Ling Ruoxi crouched down and gritted her teeth. “Don’t worry about me—go! I’m a medical practitioner. I can control my injuries for a short time. I can—cough—”
Bright red blood splattered onto the ground. Ling Ruoxi quickly looked back.
A figure in battle armor leapt out, standing outside the formation. The long spear in her hand thrust forward, smashing into an incoming boulder.
Her body trembled and her face turned pale as she was forced back by the impact. But gritting her teeth, she shouted and shattered the boulder ahead.
“If we destroy the stones, the formation won’t be affected, right?” She landed lightly, smiling—though her face was deathly pale.
Nangong Mo’s pupils shrank. Clenching his fists, he slowly released Ling Ruoxi and stepped toward the wall. He slapped one hand against it; with a flick of his other hand, a soft sword snapped out. A purple figure flashed like lightning, slicing through the boulders. Purple Dou Qi exploded, forcibly grinding them all to dust.
That purple figure flashed again and again, cutting the boulders in half, giving them no chance to pass.
Ling Ruoxi gasped for breath, quickly swallowed a pill, dispelled the formation, and raised her hand to summon the Thunder Spear.
But Qian Yi grabbed her wrist first and shook her head. “Rest. And… it’s almost over.”
Hmm?
Ling Ruoxi raised her brows slightly and smiled faintly.
A white-clad figure appeared as if from the void, suddenly standing high in the sky. Countless boulders floated around him. Smiling faintly, he looked down at the crowd and waved his hand.
“Boom!” Like falling meteors, the boulders crashed down. Screams erupted everywhere as the army retreated ten miles, afraid to advance.
“Bastard! Why did you come so late?!” Nangong Mo punched Luo Mingyu in the chest, grabbing his collar and staring at him coldly.
Luo Mingyu merely straightened his clothes and smiled calmly. “Weren’t you all here?”
Huh…
Nangong Mo froze. That’s right—weren’t they all here? Had they relied too much on this man? Why had they assumed that if he didn’t come back, Ling Ruoxi would be the one to suffer—without ever thinking that they could save her?
“Are you okay?” Luo Mingyu gently placed a hand against Ling Ruoxi’s cheek, coughing softly. His face was completely devoid of color.
Ling Ruoxi grabbed his hand, her expression changing instantly. “You’re injured? What happened?”
