“Damn…” Helian Yu sucked in a cold breath. The woman in front of him was stunningly beautiful. As a normal man, he couldn’t help but glance at her a little longer than usual.
Indeed, appearances can be deceiving.
“That’s more like it. Soon, Qingluan will take us back—Father is still waiting.” Ling Ruoxi’s lips curled into a small smile. The two sparring figures immediately stopped, glanced at her, and returned a calm smile.
The woman ahead lifted her long gown, widened her stance, and charged forward. “What the hell is this? Can people even wear this? So heavy! What is this, a wedding robe? Nangong Mo, don’t forget, our engagement has been annulled. If you think you can use this as an excuse to make me go back, forget it!”
“Stop. This is just a meeting gift. Don’t worry, your man is here, I wouldn’t dare say more.” Nangong Mo smiled faintly.
Ye Ningfeng chuckled in admiration. “Ruoxi, you look beautiful in this phoenix robe. Now that everything’s settled, please come back with us.”
“Wait! Who said everything’s settled?” Ling Ruoxi’s eyes glinted as she focused on the kneeling woman. With a flick of her right hand, a long silver needle appeared in her palm. “Ning Yue, which path do you choose?”
“I… Your Highness, Your Highness…” Ning Yue’s eyes darted desperately toward Nangong Mo. She panicked. This person’s background was far beyond her reach.
“Ruoxi, she’s saying Luo Mingyu and she…”
“None of it is true. It was all an act. Do you really think Luo Mingyu is the type to sleep with just anyone? He only humored her at my request. She tried to seduce her mistress’s husband and even poisoned my mistress. Tell me, how should this be handled?” Ling Ruoxi removed the phoenix crown from her head, groaning as its weight almost broke her neck.
Ye Ningfeng’s voice was calm. “According to Duanyun Kingdom’s law, this crime is punishable by death.”
“Oh? I suppose I’ve been too merciful. Then fine—let’s take her out and execute her.” Ling Ruoxi smiled faintly, about to retract the silver needle.
The kneeling woman clutched Ling Ruoxi’s arm in terror. “I-I know my mistake. I choose the first path! Please… make me forget everything!”
“Finally said it.” With a point of her hand, the silver needle pierced Ning Yue’s brain.
Ling Ruoxi acted quickly; the woman didn’t even feel pain before losing consciousness. Pulling out the needle, Ling Ruoxi twisted her neck. “I still have to stay here one more day. Tomorrow is Lady Helian’s last needle application. Since I promised Young Master Helian, I must fulfill it.”
“Thank you!” Helian Yu didn’t know what else to say—words failed him, and all he could manage was “thank you.” He knew their statuses were completely different; excessive gratitude might only irritate her.
“Needle application? Never mind, one more day won’t hurt. Ruoxi, since we’re here, why not show us around and let us see how the people live?” Nangong Mo said with a faint smile.
Luo Mingyu snorted. “It’s just an excuse to get close to Ruoxi. My woman doesn’t need you to tour with her. Your companion, the Fire King, knows every town in Duanyun Kingdom—have him take you.”
“Luo Mingyu, can you not ruin the plan?” Nangong Mo’s expression stiffened.
Sparks exploded in the air as Ling Ruoxi wrenched herself free from Luo Mingyu’s embrace.
Even she didn’t understand what was happening. Ever since the Qiong Yu Immortal Island incident, the two of them acted like enemies—every meeting turned into a fight.
Ling Ruoxi even felt Luo Mingyu had become childish, while Nangong Mo, trying to please her, smiled at her every day. Luo Mingyu, meanwhile, had gone from a false, flirtatious man to a cold figure toward all women—thanks to her mother, Bai Liyan, who insisted he could only be good to her and not even glance at other women.
“Enough! You two, stop fighting! Two grown men, fighting? If you have energy, go cook for me. If I like it, I’ll reward you!” Ling Ruoxi said casually, really feeling hungry.
The two men, eyes flashing with a murderous gleam, immediately dashed to the kitchen.
“Style, style!” Ling Ruoxi muttered, pointing at the kneeling woman. “Young Master Helian, don’t mind them. They’re like that. The woman on the ground can be taken away now—she’s forgotten everything, even who she is. You’ll need to teach her slowly.”
“Understood.” Helian Yu nodded. The newly appointed Prince Murong seemed surprisingly amiable.
In the brief time it took an incense stick to burn, the two nearly ran Ling Ruoxi off her feet. She had already changed into her own clothes, eyes fixed on the various dishes on the table.
Her eyebrows raised. “What are you two doing?”
The two men’s faces were smudged with soot. Nangong Mo’s purple robe and Luo Mingyu’s silver-white robe were covered in grease. Their refined gentlemanly appearance was gone.
Even Ye Ningfeng twitched at the corners of his mouth, ready to defend if necessary.
“Try it,” they said in unison, staring at each other.
Ling Ruoxi couldn’t help but feel exasperated. When had these grown men ever done housework?
Nangong Mo’s dishes: the rice was half-cooked, one plate of vegetables burnt black, another unknown mixture stuck together like a mushy mess. There was also a pile of pickles and a bowl of clear rice soup.
Luo Mingyu’s dishes were even worse—probably because he was used to outdoor survival. A whole roasted chicken, a roasted fish, a wild rabbit, all skewered on tree branches. Clearly not cooked in a kitchen, but over a fire!
“What is this? Eating it will give diarrhea!”
“And yours? Just threw it on a fire? That’s not home-cooked food, just some wild meat!”
“Yours? Black and burnt, who can eat that? Home-cooked my ass—this is dog food!”
Ye Ningfeng could only sigh, covering his ears.
Ling Ruoxi, frustrated beyond words, kicked the two men out, sat down angrily, and picked up chopsticks. She randomly grabbed a piece of Luo Mingyu’s roasted wild chicken. Surprisingly, it tasted okay, though lightly salted.
As for Nangong Mo’s dishes… she couldn’t even bring herself to touch the half-raw rice or the blackened vegetables. Sipping the rice soup made her face change—there was even a rice worm! She tried a sticky bite, discovering it was pumpkin, mashed into a feces-like mess by Nangong Mo. How could she even explain these two grown men?
“Ruoxi, eat mine first!”
“Bullshit, so what if it’s first? You saw her eat mine, three bites! And she even threw the chopsticks at the end!”
The two men bickered loudly, almost breaking the door down, nearly knocking Ling Ruoxi over.
Ye Ningfeng shrugged apologetically at the door.
“You two idiots!” Ling Ruoxi’s roar echoed from the Helian residence. The house fell silent, and the two men were practically thrown out.
The small mountains and rivers passed beneath her feet—not like flying on a plane, but standing freely, dominating the world. A gentle breeze brushed her black hair as she rode Qingluan, a faint smile on her lips.
She had already reached Purple-level Dou Qi, capable of floating in midair. For over three months, she had been wandering with Luo Mingyu, almost forgetting her own strength.
“What is she laughing at?” The Silver Wolf’s goosebumps rose—Ling Ruoxi’s smile seemed dangerously sly.
Xiao Wu, dragging his chin solemnly, said, “Based on my experience, Mother must be thinking about handsome men, or why would she smile so mischievously?”
“Get lost. I’m handsome, and she didn’t even look at me. Who else could it be?” The Silver Wolf pouted, but it was true—Ling Ruoxi was surrounded by handsome men, so teasing them wasn’t worth her time.
Hearing them chatter, Ling Ruoxi glanced back. “You two, want me to hit you?”
“Your clothes are too many, you can’t move, can’t hit us.”
“Your crown is too heavy, your neck will snap, you can’t move.”
“…Damn it!” Ling Ruoxi wanted to kick the two idiots, glaring at them. She had worn this phoenix crown for days, and her neck felt like it would break.
If it weren’t for this strange requirement, she would have taken off the clothes and crown. Why so formal? It’s not like she’s marrying anyone!
Marrying? That thought flashed through Ling Ruoxi’s mind, and she froze. Could it be… they actually want her to marry?
