FRGNM -Chapter 163 Getting Into Trouble

“This place is designed specifically for Dou Qi users. As soon as Dou Qi is used, it’s the same as with the first jade stone—you go forward, and whoosh, it’s gone. To cross, you have to rely solely on physical speed, but the distance from here to the central rotating platform is over fifty meters. Even I can’t jump that far. And look at all the water spraying around—touch it, and it’s basically suicide!” Silver Wolf made a throat-slashing gesture and shook his head helplessly.

In short, that egg was untouchable.

Ling Ruoxi couldn’t help but take a sharp breath. She had been far too naive—she hadn’t realized just how dangerous the water was. She reached out over the icy pond, but all she could feel was the cold; nothing else could be sensed.

“Enough. This isn’t a good place anyway. Let’s get out of here. Even if the exit is a kilometer away, I can get you up.” Silver Wolf touched his nose, raising his brows.

Something about this place felt off, as if some unseen presence was watching them—it made her very uneasy.

“S-Save… me…”

A tiny voice echoed in her ears. Ling Ruoxi had no idea where it came from, but instinctively she looked toward the giant egg. Could it be coming from that thing?

“No, I want to see.” She rolled up her long sleeves and quickly backed up. Her icy eyes locked on the enormous rotating platform ahead. Fifty meters… no way could she make that distance in one leap. But what if she used something else?

If she didn’t try, how would she know she couldn’t do it?

Cold light flashed in her eyes. On her toes, she sprang forward like lightning. Her agile body shot out like a drawn blade, one foot landing on the riverbank, propelling her into the air.

“Wha—are you insane?!” Even Silver Wolf was stunned. Ling Ruoxi’s speed was so fast he didn’t even have time to react. He wanted to stop her, but her figure was already above the icy pond.

“Idiot!” he thought, glaring at her, but there was no way to pursue her. Even with a running start, he couldn’t match her speed.

The black figure soared, then descended slightly, making Silver Wolf’s heart skip a beat. No human—even a skilled one—could jump that far without Dou Qi!

Then, in mid-air, she extended her right hand. A cold glint appeared—it was a dagger. Her toes lightly pressed it, and her falling trajectory reversed. With a faster boost, she shot forward.

“That works?” Silver Wolf’s jaw nearly hit the ground. His eyes nearly popped out. The dagger was tiny—how precise must her control be to make this work?

With one rise and fall, the black-clad figure had already traveled over twenty meters.

Silver Wolf’s palms grew sweaty. Ahead was the water spray. Touch it, and she’d be obliterated. The dagger helped her gain a foothold, but it only traveled in a straight line. The water wasn’t linear—it sprayed unpredictably.

At that anxious moment, she extended her right hand again. A silver thread shot through the water droplets ahead. Swish! It wrapped around the giant egg, pulling her slender body forward.

The rotating platform swung her side to side. But with her perfect perception, Ling Ruoxi had already noted the spray and tensed her body, dodging along the water streams.

Water splashed around, tearing a few tiny holes in her black garment.

“Careful!” Silver Wolf’s face changed drastically.

As she dodged, the nearly taut steel cable shuddered violently. Bzz! The stretched cable snapped in two.

Her body stalled midair, face pale as death, plummeting toward the icy pond.

“Ling Ruoxi!” Silver Wolf shouted. Her shadow vanished beneath the splash.

Impossible! Trembling, Silver Wolf knelt, staring at the pond, unsure what to do.

Suddenly, a flash of insight hit him. No—if Ling Ruoxi died, how could he survive? Their life-bound contract meant that if one died, the other would too.

She was alive. She was alive!

A faint purple light enveloped her. On the blue water, a purple cocoon slowly rose, shielding her from the splashing water. Not a single drop could harm her.

Crack… Like a butterfly emerging, the cocoon split open. Ling Ruoxi stood atop the rotating platform, eyes half-lidded, lips curved in a small smile.

“Holy—do you have to scare me like that?!” Silver Wolf’s soul nearly left his body. He exhaled in relief—there was no way for him to cross the water.

The water’s power was beyond comprehension, far too strong to handle.

“Relax, it was just a little joke. Why so nervous?” Ling Ruoxi chuckled. She hadn’t realized that the protection of her Poison Meridians could even let her pass through such dangerous conditions.

Looking at the egg, she sensed movement—it seemed ready to hatch. Instinctively, she pressed her hand on the warm shell. Water droplets slid across it and, in an instant, solidified into a piece of white jade.

“What the… that works?!” Her eyes lit up. She touched the water on the platform—nothing happened.

Even better, every droplet she touched turned into jade!

Crack… A crisp sound echoed through the cavern. The walls lit up, bathing the dark space in pale blue light, as bright as daytime.

Meanwhile, elsewhere, a man enjoying a feast paused, shocked. “Damn, it’s out!”

“Your Majesty, what are you saying?” Beautiful women nearby smiled, raising their cups, moving toward him.

His expression darkened. He pushed them aside. “Someone has entered the demon cave. Come with me! That child must not be allowed to emerge!”

Dust rose as thousands of troops and beasts charged through the forest.

Silver Wolf paused, confused at the sight of over a thousand beasts, then furrowed his brow and followed.

“This is…” His jaw nearly dropped. He shielded his eyes from the blinding light, then peeked—stunned.

Ling Ruoxi also twitched her lips. Inside the cracked egg was a tiny creature, only the size of a palm. Hairless, pink, pecking at the shell—it swallowed the hard surface whole.

Once it finished the shell, the soft little bird flapped its wings and nuzzled Ling Ruoxi’s pant leg.

“Pfft, hahaha, what is this? So ugly…” The man outside laughed uproariously, his expression exaggerated to the extreme.

Ling Ruoxi sighed, holding the tiny bird in her hands. It was only a hatchling. She had assumed something powerful, like a dinosaur, was inside the egg. Instead… well, tears of frustration.

“Mom…” A tiny, innocent voice echoed in her mind.

Ling Ruoxi froze, looking around. Could it be Yi Zhui or Yi Meng? No—it wasn’t them. And those two kids weren’t here.

“Mom, stop looking. I’m in your hands!” The palm-sized bird nuzzled her fingers affectionately.

Wait—that bird just hatched. And they hadn’t signed any contract. How could she hear a magical beast’s voice?

“Of course! Xiao Wu actually has this ability—to communicate directly with humans.” The tiny bird chirped, rubbing against her fingers.

Lightning seemed to strike Ling Ruoxi. Innate power? That made sense. No ordinary egg would be left here without such protection.

“Really?” Ling Ruoxi held the bird, puzzled. “What’s your name? What are you?”

“Xiao Wu isn’t just a thing, Xiao Wu is a bird—a powerful royal bird.”

“Xiao Wu… doesn’t suit you. Little Meat would fit better.” The poor bird had no feathers. She had assumed magical beasts would be impressive from birth. Birds should have feathers, yet this one was just a naked little meatball.

Silver Wolf glanced at Ling Ruoxi, confused by her muttering. “Ling Ruoxi, why are you talking to yourself? Since you got it, hurry over, I…”

He stopped mid-sentence. His face changed dramatically, leaping to the side. “Quick, get out! Someone’s coming!”

“Right, Mom! Hurry, they’re here!” Xiao Wu flapped its wings in excitement.

The surrounding water paused. Xiao Wu signaled: “Use Dou Qi to fly. Since I hatched, this underworld water is useless!”

“Got it!” Purple Dou Qi surged. The black figure on the shore grabbed Silver Wolf’s wrist and ran.

“This way!” Xiao Wu’s mind transmitted the message.
