Plop! Something fell into the steel wire.
Overjoyed, Ling Ruoxi reached to pick up the fish in her large net, but… the fish that had been lying on the steel wire twisted its body and slipped right through her tightly woven net, tearing a large hole in it in the process.
“What the hell kind of fish is this? How are we supposed to eat it?!” Every hair on Ling Ruoxi’s body almost stood on end. She hurriedly pulled back her steel wire and reattached it.
Looking at the leaping fish again, she thought: these fish must have been loaches in their previous life!
The sun was setting, casting a pale red glow across the sky. A man stood in the water, washing himself, lightly disturbing the surface of the river as the shallow water flowed over his body. His black hair clung wetly to his shoulders and back.
His fair skin was flawless; the famed “icy skin and jade bones” didn’t even compare. His alluring figure surpassed any beauty, winning by a clear margin.
“Luo…” The first syllable escaped Ling Ruoxi’s lips, and she froze completely. Under the moonlight, the man seemed enveloped in a mysterious aura—so near, yet so far. Just a view of his back sparked endless imagination.
He combed his hair with both hands, tying it behind him. At that moment, his mischievous charm and slightly disdainful glance caught the corner of his eye, noticing someone on the shore. His aura retracted; he was still the same, unchanged. Only the mysterious aura vanished.
“Ruoxi, didn’t expect you to have a habit of peeping at others bathing. Why don’t you come down and join me?” Luo Mingyu said, his lips curling as he splashed the water toward her, giving her a meaningful look.
Ling Ruoxi thought to herself: that feeling I had just now must have been wrong! How could such a shameless man have that kind of mysterious aura? She was about to speak when she froze on the shore.
The man in the water had turned around. Compared to three years ago, his body had improved even more; his skin had become whiter and smoother, surpassing even women. His defined eight-pack abs made her swallow hard. Looking lower, she saw a few black curls floating in the water, and she subconsciously glanced longer.
As if sensing her thoughts, the man in the water slowly walked toward the shore. “Want to see? After all, we’re husband and wife. I can show you right now if you like.”
“Hey, stop, don’t come up!” Ling Ruoxi stepped back in shock, her muscles tensing, instinctively retreating.
But the man seemed to deliberately scare her, suddenly leaping out of the water.
Recalling what she had just seen, Ling Ruoxi screamed in fright, closing her eyes—but it was too late. She realized the man was wearing only underwear.
“What the hell! Why are your pants so low?!” Ling Ruoxi, drenched in cold sweat, finally exhaled in relief, shoving him away. This man always liked pranks.
Seeing her blush, Luo Mingyu laughed heartily. “What, unhappy that my pants are low? You know, men need comfort. Did you think your tight pants wrapping your little curves were meant to tempt me into crime?” His fingers trailed up her back as he embraced Ling Ruoxi.
Ling Ruoxi recognized his teasing tone and elbowed him hard in the stomach. “Dinner time!”
“Oh? You even managed to get dinner?” Luo Mingyu said, surprised, following behind Ling Ruoxi toward the firelight.
Cheating! He couldn’t say that to her. No rabbits caught, no fish caught, yet she was using wild vegetables from the hill to fill in.
“See? This is my skill!” Ling Ruoxi said proudly. These creatures here were too strange—if they wouldn’t eat them, that was fine.
Luo Mingyu could only smile wryly. “Yes, yes, your skills can only handle these immobile, silent, non-bleeding flowers, plants, and wild fruits.”
“Eat it or not? If not, I’ll eat it myself!” Ling Ruoxi’s face darkened as she kicked the vegetables.
“Yes, my lady, how could I not eat?” Luo Mingyu smiled, taking two already roasted wild rabbits in his other hand. The aroma made Ling Ruoxi pause.
“While you were catching fish, I got a couple too. You must have grown some more—look how hungry you are.” He wiped his chest, eyebrows raised as he looked at her sitting there.
“…You devil!” Ling Ruoxi almost threw her spoon, but seeing there was only one, she restrained herself. Over the past six months, although not as harsh as training in Dongdu, it had still been grueling. At least, she had varied food daily, and her previously bony frame had gained some flesh.
“Alright, no more teasing. Tomorrow’s training is catching rabbits. At least you’ll get meat if you catch them, and vegetables if you don’t,” Luo Mingyu said, smiling while rubbing his waist.
“…What the hell!” Ling Ruoxi tore off a piece of meat, savoring the flavor. Unlike her seasoned cooking, this meat was simply roasted with a bit of salt, letting the natural flavor shine—unpretentious but unforgettable.
“Tasty, right? Eat up, then you’ll enjoy later.” Luo Mingyu laughed.
Every hair on her body stood on end. Ling Ruoxi instinctively looked at him; his oily lips hadn’t been wiped clean, and he swallowed the meat he had been holding. “What did you say?”
“I said…” He slowly approached, grabbing her slender waist, pressing close. The firelight reflected off the sheen on her lips. She tried to resist, but the man tightly held her, giving her no chance to pull away.
Ling Ruoxi ignored that he had been starving for nearly four years. His violent kiss engulfed her, leaving her breathless. Her face flushed crimson; her body softened against him, powerless even in her breathing.
“Ha… ha…” Finally released, she panted weakly, her eyes dazed. Her primal desires awakened uncontrollably. The meat fell to the ground as her gaze traced his throat downward, admiring his chest muscles and flowing curves.
“Don’t resist me, okay?” His hoarse voice stirred her further. He gently placed her soft hand on his heated chest. “Can you feel it? It’s beating fast for you, do you know that?”
“L-Luo… Luo Mingyu…” Her voice trembled, soft and weak, yet with a strange power.
Luo Mingyu could no longer restrain himself. He guided her hand down his body, the cold touch activating the desire he had long suppressed.
“Let go!” Ling Ruoxi shivered, pulling back, her face crimson, unsure where to place her hands.
He laughed, pouncing like a tiger.
“Ah!” Her clothes were torn. The dominating aura scared her, yet she sensed something unfamiliar in his eyes—a killing intent! The same dark energy once within him, pressing on her, intoxicating her.
“Luo Mingyu, stop it, you bastard!” She tried to protect herself, stepping back to create distance.
“Don’t resist me…” His low voice echoed. Ling Ruoxi froze, instinctively clutching her fingers until they whitened.
“How much do you really know about him? His origins, everything about him—do you know?” The words of Dongdu Wang still echoed, striking her heart like a hammer.
Looking at him, she smiled bitterly. They were husband and wife, right? So why resist now? Was it because she couldn’t let go?
She smiled, no longer resisting, cupping Luo Mingyu’s face, gently kissing his forehead. She wrapped her arms around his waist, nudging his lips gently.
“Mm…” His pupils flickered, the dark aura fading. Even Luo Mingyu was surprised. Every time, he initiated, and the woman rarely reciprocated.
