The corner of her mouth twitched violently. Ling Ruoxi was almost blasted away again by the shockwave, but luckily this time she was prepared. Seeing the massive cloud of dust rushing toward her, she pressed her left hand against her right. The thin steel wire shot sharply forward, and she was pulled along by the force, flinging herself ahead.
“Whew, that was close! Am I supposed to keep running forever? This Earth-Spike Dragon isn’t some river-crossing black ant—it has two eyes and can clearly see where I am!”
For a moment, Ling Ruoxi’s mouth twitched as she crawled and rolled her way into the forest. Yet within her black eyes, a sharp glint flickered.
Wait—this demonic beast doesn’t sense people around it? That means… she can hide?
With a flash, the figure that had been exposed vanished instantly.
The Earth-Spike Dragon that came chasing sniffed the air. As if enraged, its agile tail swept violently toward the trees ahead.
“Boom! Boom! Boom!”
Countless trees toppled. Just as the Earth-Spike Dragon was about to go berserk, the hidden figure suddenly leapt out and ran off in another direction.
This idiot!
Luo Mingyu’s heart clenched even tighter. If that were the case, he really should have let the King of Eastern Capital stay here to supervise. Only this woman would think of hiding! Still, hiding wasn’t entirely bad—she could use the chance to rest and recover her strength.
Don’t lose to a mere Earth-Spike Dragon like this!
When you’re strong enough, you’ll be able to kill it just like that!
Killing intent surged through his eyes. The running Earth-Spike Dragon shuddered all over and instinctively stopped, yet it found nothing. The aura of a true powerhouse—even demonic beasts could not withstand it.
Wisps of cooking smoke rose. A figure sat by the campfire with her head lowered in thought. Her unfocused eyes stared ahead, small hands clenched tightly, faint wounds scattered across her fair cheeks.
The man sitting beside her gently wiped the injuries on her face. His fingers carried the coolness of medicinal ointment as he pressed it onto her cheek.
“Ouch!”
Ling Ruoxi nearly jumped up, clutching her face and glaring fiercely at Luo Mingyu. This man was definitely doing it on purpose—who presses directly on someone’s wound?
Raising an eyebrow, Luo Mingyu leaned casually against the tree trunk and smiled faintly. “I saw someone about to drift out of her body, so I kindly pulled you back. What were you thinking about, so absorbed it was even better than looking at me?”
“I…”
Sitting angrily beside him, Ling Ruoxi pressed her head and said, “Why can’t I ever get away? The Earth-Spike Dragon isn’t fast. It can jump, sure, but I shouldn’t be so slow that I can’t even counterattack, right?”
Thinking of the three hours of nonstop running—hiding in the jungle, rushing out whenever she saw an opening—yet before she could even reach the Earth-Spike Dragon, she’d be sent flying by its vicious tail.
“You should think about how to dodge first, then about how to ambush,” Luo Mingyu said softly. Watching her narrowly escape danger again and again—several times almost trampled to death—had made him more nervous than when he led troops to attack Qiongyu Immortal Island.
He had almost intervened but restrained himself in the end. After all, the person before him still had a demonic beast to deal with, and the King of Eastern Capital wasn’t entirely wrong.
Dodge?
Just thinking about that terrifying power made goosebumps rise all over Ling Ruoxi’s body. A light flashed in her eyes as she reached out and wrapped her arms around Luo Mingyu’s arm. Her slender body leaned in close, his unique scent filling her nose. Deliberately drawing nearer, her nose almost touched his cheek as she lowered her head seductively and breathed warm air into his ear.
“Luo Mingyu, I know you must have a way, right? Tell me—how should I deal with this Earth-Spike Dragon?”
Still clinging to his arm, that unfamiliar sensation spread. The warmth by his ear made him shiver uncontrollably, as if that patch of skin were burning. On Death Island, he actually felt a trace of restless heat.
The corner of his mouth lifted as Luo Mingyu turned his head—but…
He never expected Ling Ruoxi to be that close. The moment he turned, his cool lips brushed against her cheek. His eyes darkened instantly, both hands clenching tightly.
“Hey! If you don’t want to say it, fine—why suddenly sneak-attack me!” Ling Ruoxi quickly dodged away, frantically wiping her cheek. Fine—she’d just think of a solution herself.
Looking at the slender girl, Luo Mingyu couldn’t help but smile bitterly. Right now, he truly couldn’t bear to hurt her in any way. He reached out and pulled her into his arms, smiling lightly.
“You—when you can outrun it, I’ll tell you how to deal with it. Wanting to become strong in one bite? No chance.” As he spoke, his slender finger tapped her nose gently, his smile faint.
“What do you mean, ‘one bite to become strong’? Didn’t you see what happened today? If someone really tried to assassinate me, do I have to outrun them? Can’t I just—”
“Mm…”
Angry and flailing, her flushed cheeks were like blooming flowers. Even her glassy eyes held a misty sheen—so alluring it made one’s heart stir.
He cupped the back of her head and pulled her hard into his embrace. Three years—after not seeing her for three years, did they really have to argue the moment they met?
He kissed her fiercely on the lips. That sweet taste hadn’t changed—still as beautiful as ever. Without giving her any chance to react, he wrapped an arm around her waist, letting her rest against his shoulder.
“Sleep. Tomorrow we continue. When you can outrun it, then we’ll talk about ambushing.”
“You…” Ling Ruoxi froze, not knowing how to respond. She could only lean against Luo Mingyu’s shoulder, helplessly gazing at the forest ahead.
A gentle breeze rose, leaves rustling softly.
Southbound wild geese spread their wings and soared high. On Qiongyu Immortal Island, immortal cranes danced gracefully, lifting slender legs to step upon lotus petals. Their long necks curved as sharp beaks preened their feathers.
Like a scene from a painting, a purple gate in the pond slowly opened. A fiery-red figure appeared, lips curved in a playful smile as she walked into the palace.
“Mother, you don’t know how terrifying Death Island is! The moment we entered, we ran into river-crossing black ants!” Baili Ling’s face was already pale with fright. Thinking of the countless black figures over the past three hours made her break out in goosebumps. Luckily, she came out in time—otherwise she’d have been eaten down to the bones.
Baili Wushuang twirled a lock of her hair, her orchid-like fingers tapping Baili Ling’s forehead as she smiled calmly. “River-crossing black ants? Those are just the lowest-grade demonic beasts. And you’re scared?”
“No, Mother, they’re really terrifying!” Baili Ling pouted.
Caressing her jade-like hand, Baili Wushuang chuckled softly. “Don’t worry. Since you’ve come out, that girl should come out too.”
“She won’t,” a fiery-red figure said as she pushed the door open, smiling at the two inside. “She’s already failed—buried in the mouths of the river-crossing black ants.”
“Hah, dead just like that?” Baili Wushuang laughed disdainfully, slowly rising from the cold couch. Her seductive figure leaned close as she stroked the King of Eastern Capital’s cheek. “Dead is dead. My Qiongyu Immortal Island doesn’t lack such a girl. King of Eastern Capital, do you understand the situation of the island now?”
“You mean the outside situation?” A cold glint flashed in his eyes. The King of Eastern Capital avoided her hand, casually crossing his arms. “I promised to guard you for a thousand years. There are only three years left—are you in such a hurry?”
“Hah! I really don’t know what kind of man you are.” Her gentle caress turned vicious as the standing woman suddenly grabbed the King of Eastern Capital by the throat, her expression twisting. “You talk about staying by my side for a thousand years—but what did you do? I told you to take root on the continent and gather intelligence for me. Instead, you raised a tiger only to be bitten, leaving that cheap girl Ling Ruoxi alive in your Eastern Capital Kingdom!”
The man whose throat was seized remained standing, expression unchanged, staring at her as veins bulged on her fair face.
Then, suddenly, Baili Wushuang released him and resumed stroking his cheek, giggling. “Relax—I won’t kill you. With a fierce general like you by my side, I’m like a tiger with wings. What’s three years? I don’t even need that long!”
“The people of Evil King Island are already surrounding us. In a few days, they’ll probably attack. You hid that little slut Ling Ruoxi in the Eastern Capital Kingdom, didn’t you? Don’t worry—from today on, there will no longer be an Eastern Capital Kingdom on the Dragon-Walking Continent. They should be arriving soon. I wonder how it feels to burn a nation to the ground.”
Laughing crazily, Baili Wushuang sat down.
The King of Eastern Capital’s heart trembled violently. He never imagined she would burn a whole country—over a hundred thousand lives. He knew she could do it.
“What? Can’t bear it?” Baili Wushuang chuckled. “Even if I burn the nation, I’ll still find that little slut and bring her here. After all, the senior sister inside has been waiting impatiently.”
Waving her sleeve, she laughed lightly.
The King of Eastern Capital merely stood there coldly. At least, the woman before him didn’t know that Ling Ruoxi had already infiltrated Qiongyu Immortal Island. A round trip would take at least a month—more than enough time for those on Death Island.
“Boom!”
A massive figure crashed down. A sweeping tail followed, sending the airborne figure streaking like a brilliant meteor straight into the swamp.
Swamp after swamp stretched endlessly. Nearly landing headfirst, Ling Ruoxi ended up with her lower body completely sunk into the mire.
Damn it—who the hell made a swamp here?!
She tried to get out, but the suction of the swamp was no joke. The more she struggled, the faster she sank.
Dark clouds gathered in the sky. In the next instant, Ling Ruoxi’s face turned deathly pale. With a flick of her right hand, the sleeve-mounted crossbow shot forward.
“Boom!”
The massive figure slammed down. In that instant, mud exploded across the entire swamp, as if struck by an atomic bomb. A deep, gaping crater appeared.
