Nangong Mo was so furious his nose nearly twisted out of shape. This woman actually dared to say such things right in front of him—this was simply, simply treating him as if he didn’t exist!
“Ling Ruoxi, you—!”
“Oh? Your Highness the Crown Prince, what are your orders?” Ling Ruoxi patted her chest and smiled lightly. “But I’ve already been expelled from the Ling family. From now on, I have nothing to do with them. Your Highness had better not use my father to pressure me—my poor little heart couldn’t take it.”
That smile, however, caused a faint ache in Nangong Mo’s eyes. This woman… she’d been driven out of the Ling residence by Ling Hu?
In all of Northern Ning, who didn’t know that Ling Ruoxi was a congenital good-for-nothing—someone who couldn’t do anything, who couldn’t even condense Dou Qi? Driving her out of the Ling residence was no different from letting her fend for herself. No wonder she was living in this ruined temple!
“Ling Hu kicked you out?” Nangong Mo’s voice darkened as his black eyes fixed on Ling Ruoxi, as if he wanted to dig something out of her very body.
“Nope. I left on my own,” Ling Ruoxi replied casually. “A lousy family with endless nonsense—how could it compare to being free and carefree out here? Flirting with handsome men, admiring beauties—what’s not to like?” As she spoke, she reached out and pinched Fang Xu’s cheek.
That single action sent Nangong Mo’s fury skyrocketing. This woman—she was deliberately trying to provoke him! Linking arms with another man right in front of him—this was blatant provocation!
“Ling Ruoxi! You’d better remember your status. Even if I divorced you, you were once the Crown Princess. You’d best watch your behavior!” Nangong Mo’s fists clenched until they crackled, veins bulging on his forehead as he glared viciously at Fang Xu.
Fang Xu’s legs trembled. How could he have known that he’d run into such an important figure the moment he arrived? His knees nearly gave out as he hurriedly apologized. “Your Highness the Crown Prince, I didn’t know it was you, th-this…”
“Why are you shaking? Speak properly. If I’m satisfied, there’ll be a reward!” Ling Ruoxi patted Fang Xu’s face. Seeing Nangong Mo on the verge of exploding, she suppressed her inner malice and crooked a finger at him. “Hey, sir, how about I serve you instead? Want me to wash, cut, and blow-dry your hair—give you a real ‘non-mainstream’ style?”
“Serve me? Fine…” Even though he didn’t understand the words that followed, the seductive tone was unmistakable. Nangong Mo himself didn’t even know why his rage flared so violently as he strode forward coldly. “Men, take this eyesore outside!”
The guards outside hurried in and dragged Fang Xu away. The ruined temple’s door was shut with a sweep of the hand, leaving only the two of them inside.
A crafty glint flashed through Ling Ruoxi’s dark eyes as she smiled faintly. “What is it, Your Highness? Could it be that you’re actually interested in me?”
She reached up to touch that face, rough like old tree bark, and looked at the man before her. Lifting the hair from her cheek, she revealed the marks on her neck as well—making it seem as though half her body was covered in them, enough to disgust anyone.
“Hmph. What do you think?” Nangong Mo stepped closer, gripping Ling Ruoxi’s wrist. A dark shadow flickered in his eyes. “Ling Ruoxi, I warn you—even if I divorced you, you are not allowed to seduce other men! Why debase yourself like this, seducing men? Are you really so desperate that you’ll take anyone?”
“Heh. Your Highness, what are you talking about?” Ling Ruoxi sneered. “If I weren’t ‘lowly,’ how would I go seducing other men and putting a green hat on you? We have nothing to do with each other now. Even if I am lowly, it’s none of your business.”
She tried to push him away, only to be shocked to discover that Nangong Mo’s grip was like iron pincers—she couldn’t break free at all.
So strong… is this because of Dou Qi? Ling Ruoxi knew better than to play with fire, and she also knew not to go too far. When she caught the flash of anger in Nangong Mo’s eyes, she said coldly, “Your Highness, you can let go now. There’s long been nothing between us. If you keep this up, people might think you’re interested in me—that you don’t love beauties, but ugly women instead.”
“Get lost! How could I ever like an ugly woman like you!” Struck right at the sore spot, Nangong Mo immediately released her wrist and wiped his hand in disgust.
Clapping her hands, Ling Ruoxi giggled. “Well then, Your Highness, I rushed out and didn’t bring any money. How about this—I’ll give you this little ruined temple, and you can consider it charity and give me a bit of money, hm?”
“Take it!” Unable to bear the sight of her ugly face any longer, Nangong Mo quickly threw the money pouch from his robes.
Catching the pouch, Ling Ruoxi vaguely caught a faint fragrance. Rubbing her nose, she smiled. “Thanks. This should be enough for a visit to the pleasure house. Fang Xu, let’s go—time to stay at an inn.”
Those words nearly made Nangong Mo explode with rage, his eyes almost popping out of their sockets. Watching that fleeing figure, he finally roared, “Ling Ruoxi, you slut!”
Only after a long while did the sound fade away. Ling Ruoxi rubbed her ears, weighed the money pouch in her hand, hummed a little tune, and quickly headed toward the town ahead.
Meanwhile, Fang Xu, following behind Ling Ruoxi, had his face flushed bright red. “Um… um, Ruoxi, I—I’m not ready yet. Isn’t this a bit too fast to be going to an inn…?”
