FRGNM -Chapter 128 It Really Is Him

A cicada pupa? The person wrapped up did indeed resemble one.

The Silver Wolf, who had been taken aside, sniffed the air and squatted down, holding the broken bowl, lowering his head to smell the scent. “She got poisoned from drinking this?”

“Yes,” Ye Ningfeng nodded. It was rare for a magical beast to transform into a human. Their strength was beyond description.

Frowning slightly, the Silver Wolf looked up. “This is medicine brought from the Northern Ice Sea, called Wetland Grass. Its poison is extremely potent, reacting to the water activity in the human body. But very few people can obtain it. To reach the Northern Ice Sea, one must negotiate with the bear there—it’s the ruler of that land. Among you humans, who has connections to the North Sea?”

“Uh…” Fang Xu shook his head. He really didn’t know. With enough strength, anyone could enter that region.

Nangong Mo’s expression darkened. His fists clenched tightly. “I know who it is. Now that I’m back, his position has been affected. The first person he wants gone… might very well be me.”

“Your Highness, you mean…” Ye Ningfeng’s face also turned grim. Indeed, it seemed that way.

The person who had chased after them quickly returned. Tang Yinhai glanced at Ling Ruoxi, wrapped in Dou Qi, and was slightly stunned. He pulled out a jade token. “This belongs to them… both got away.”

“It really is him!” Nangong Mo coldly snorted at the token. Clearly, he had to take action. Someone had almost poisoned everyone here—he remembered that debt.

Luo Mingyu’s face grew even darker. He suddenly grabbed Nangong Mo by the collar. “Was it your people who poisoned her?”

“They’re from the Duanyun Kingdom’s palace. Do you know why my grandfather called me back?” Nangong Mo forcefully pushed Luo Mingyu’s hand away. “It’s because the royal uncle disappeared and another prince is incompetent, so they summoned me back!”

“The Murong family line has only one heir. Murong Hua had only a son and a daughter. Your mother is dead, the other one missing… their son is Murong Sheng?” Tang Yinhai raised an eyebrow and murmured, “Years ago, it was said the Murong family declined generation by generation. Murong Sheng indulged in debauchery, learning nothing. Even the Duanyun king couldn’t control him. And now he poisons you?”

Fang Xu nodded. “Yes. Nangong Mo’s return may position him as the next king. Murong Sheng wouldn’t give up that chance. But poisoning—this is crude. Who taught a man like him to make such poison?”

“Though Murong Sheng is incompetent, he’s backed by people in the kingdom hoping he becomes king. Many ministers secretly manipulate him to gain his trust. Among them are guards who once served Wang Shi and traveled to the North Sea. Wetland Grass… he probably gathered it then,” Nangong Mo whispered. So many eyes were already on him shortly after arriving in Duanyun.

Now it’s Ruoxi. Who’s next? If he stays with these people, perhaps the next victim will be them.

“This jade token belongs to Murong Sheng. It’s evidence. You’d better keep your distance,” Nangong Mo said, clutching it tightly.

The Silver Wolf scratched his ear, uninterested, yawning. “Humans are complicated. Evidence or no evidence, why not just kill them if they oppose us? In our world, the strong rule.”

“That’s because you’re a beast,” Nangong Mo scoffed.

Veins bulging, the Silver Wolf reminded himself to stay calm but slammed the table. “You little brat! How am I a beast? I’ve taken human form. How could I be a low-level animal?”

“You were a low-level beast to begin with. What’s there to explain?” Nangong Mo raised an eyebrow.

The two men stared at each other, sparks flying, the air tense with confrontation.

“Your Highness… the jade token…” Ye Ningfeng frowned. He was uneasy. If it truly was Murong Sheng, fine—but what if someone else had manipulated him?

Nangong Mo snorted, returning the token. “I don’t work with beasts. Continue.”

A single meal had turned into a near disaster.

Just as the outsiders were about to leave, a “crackling” sound rang out. The purple Dou Qi that had cocooned Ling Ruoxi shattered, falling like fragments to the ground.

Bit by bit, the broken Dou Qi dispersed. The white figure emerged, her black hair flying, and the Dou Qi around her jaw shattered, revealing the most beautiful face.

The woman, still carrying some Dou Qi, floated above. Strangely, her lips were stained with a trace of blood, yet curled into a faint smile. But that smile carried no warmth.

“What… is this feeling?” Luo Mingyu furrowed his brows instinctively, holding the woman as she floated, glancing at the man in blue.

“Her Dou Qi is nearly exhausted. She’ll sleep for a full day and night. Let her rest,” the man in blue said, closing his eyes.

Ye Ningfeng, careful and perceptive, noticed the man in blue’s eyes, recalling memories from old books. He gasped. “You… are of the Night Tribe?”

“Yes. Few now know of the Night Tribe. Let’s go.” The man nodded without denial.

Nangong Mo frowned, confused. Only after they left did he ask softly, “Ningfeng, what’s the Night Tribe? What about those eyes?”

“Your Highness, the library has books about all races on the continent. The Night Tribe was exterminated centuries ago. That one… should be the last of his kind,” Ye Ningfeng replied, expression darkening.

“Dou Qi masters have three souls and seven spirits, absorbing heaven and earth energy into Dou Qi. Only they can sense it. Night Tribe members are different. Their eyes, gifted by nature, can see the flow of Dou Qi and gauge the strength of opponents. They are forbidden eyes,” Ye Ningfeng continued, his tone cold.

Seeing eyes that could pierce one’s Dou Qi at any moment… no one would dare risk that. Hence the Night Tribe’s extinction.

Nangong Mo was shocked. That meant he could be exposed at any time.

“Handle Murong Sheng. I don’t want direct contact. Tell him clearly: this Duanyun Kingdom is mine now.” Cold light flashed in Nangong Mo’s eyes as he clenched the jade token.

Ling Ruoxi slowly awoke. Her body ached, her throat felt as if a fire was burning it from within.

She opened her eyes reluctantly, seeking water, but froze upon seeing the man sitting beside her, deeply asleep.

Her mind lagged behind her perception. She stared at the silver-white figure, stunned.

The man sat on a stool, holding her hand with one hand, supporting his face with the other. His black hair slipped over his fingers, adding an ethereal charm. He breathed evenly, seemingly in a deep, heavy sleep.

Ling Ruoxi moved her hand. The man frowned slightly, his Adam’s apple moving.

Instinctively, she reached out and poked it. The moment her finger touched him, his sharp eyes snapped open.

“Awake?” Luo Mingyu’s killing intent receded, replaced by a shallow smile. He held her small hand, pulling it away from his throat.

It was a human reflex. Even in sleep, if someone attacked her throat, she would awaken instantly, fully alert.

“Mm.” Ling Ruoxi responded, touching her throat and pointing to the water.

Luo Mingyu stroked her head. Using purple Dou Qi, he lifted the teacup toward her. “You’ve been unconscious for two days.”

“Oh… wait, why was I unconscious?” After drinking, she felt slightly better. Recalling the events, she froze, pressing her hands to her chest and stomach. “What… I was dead, right? How am I alive again? Luo Mingyu… did you save me?”

“You saved yourself. Anyway, it’s fine now!” Luo Mingyu pinched her nose gently, smiling. At that moment, he truly feared losing her again.

“Me?” Ling Ruoxi was stunned, quickly throwing off the blanket to stand. “Luo Mingyu, I’m asking you—I—”

“Shh, don’t speak.” Luo Mingyu pressed her head down lightly, smiling faintly while gazing out the window. Cold light flashed in his eyes. “Ling’er, how long are you going to stare out there?”
