TFHAH -Chapter 002 How to Make My First Pot of Gold

The Fierce Husband at Home7 min read2 of 4

Mo Yanzhi quickly brought lunch over: a bowl of pigeon soup and a bowl of rice made by mixing coarse rice with polished rice. The rice was topped with something green and oily-looking, which was probably wild vegetables.

Based on his memories, Han Tingxuan knew that this meal was actually considered pretty good. At home, the original owner had always eaten rice like this. The pigeon was probably something Mo Yanzhi had hunted himself. After all, with his martial arts skills, Mo Yanzhi was an excellent hunter.

However, Mo Yanzhi himself didn’t eat well. He usually ate coarse grains, and sometimes all he had was a wowo head—a steamed bun made from coarse grain flour.

There wasn’t much money in the household to begin with. This time, after the original owner had been beaten and injured, Mo Yanzhi had probably used the little money they had left to buy medicine and pay for his medical treatment…

Thinking about this, Han Tingxuan looked at the single bowl of rice and asked, “Have you eaten?”

Mo Yanzhi replied, “You’re not well, so eat first. I’ll just have something in the kitchen later.”

As he answered, Mo Yanzhi was quite surprised that the other man had actually asked whether he had eaten instead of complaining about the lack of good food and dishes.

Although Han Tingxuan had entertained the thought that if Mo Yanzhi really turned out to be a decent person, he might simply continue living with him, he knew what kind of person the original owner had been. And he didn’t want to behave too differently.

After all, the soul inside him had been replaced by another person…

If people couldn’t accept something like that and word got out, he might not necessarily die, but he would certainly be in trouble.

Being mistaken for a monster and burned alive would be far too unjust!

This was only a small village, and superstition was rampant here. Something like that was entirely possible.

Therefore, Han Tingxuan merely nodded.

To be honest, the pigeon soup didn’t taste very good…

Of course, that had a lot to do with how picky he was. Before adulthood, he had experienced some difficult times, but after that, his life had gone smoothly. He had more money than he knew what to do with, so naturally he had become very particular about what he ate, wore, and used.

His household had chefs from all over the world, from France to Italy and even local cuisines…

So this pigeon soup, which lacked seasonings and had been prepared without much attention to technique, genuinely tasted terrible to him.

But Han Tingxuan knew even better that he could no longer compare his current circumstances with his former life.

It wasn’t as though he had never suffered before. Even if he thought Mo Yanzhi’s cooking wasn’t as good as his own, he absolutely wouldn’t show the slightest hint of that!

He finished the pigeon meat and soup, but as for the bowl of rice…

Even when he had been poor, he had never eaten coarse grains!

So this was genuinely difficult to swallow.

In the end, Han Tingxuan very reluctantly ate only half of it.

Yet throughout the entire meal, his expression showed not the slightest sign that he was forcing himself.

Afterward, Mo Yanzhi looked at how much rice Han Tingxuan had left and couldn’t help saying, “Eat a little more. That way you’ll recover faster.”

Han Tingxuan shook his head. “I can’t eat anymore. You eat it.”

Mo Yanzhi paused, looking somewhat surprised. But after glancing at Han Tingxuan, he didn’t say anything.

Once Mo Yanzhi had cleaned everything up and left, Han Tingxuan struggled to get up.

He had only hit his head. Although he had some other injuries on his body, they were merely superficial. Now that even his soul had been replaced, all he really needed was some rest.

Han Tingxuan had always placed great importance on his quality of life. Naturally, he was dissatisfied with almost everything about this household.

Especially when it came to food.

He would rather die than mistreat himself when it came to eating!

Therefore, money had become his biggest problem.

As soon as he got out of bed, Han Tingxuan felt his legs trembling slightly.

He stood there for a while and moved around a little. His entire body hurt somewhat, but Han Tingxuan had always been a ruthless sort of person—both toward others and toward himself.

So the more it hurt, the more he moved.

After a while, he felt somewhat better.

Hmm. Too much of anything can have the opposite effect. There really was some truth to that saying.

Han Tingxuan then walked outside.

Beyond the bedroom was a small living room, with the kitchen directly in front of it. It wasn’t very large either.

After all, this was a thatched house. How good could it possibly be?

Han Tingxuan immediately saw Mo Yanzhi in the kitchen, eating his lunch.

The large half-bowl of rice Han Tingxuan had left behind hadn’t been touched.

Mo Yanzhi was eating coarse grains instead, along with some wild vegetables and a bowl of plain boiled water.

Seeing this scene, Han Tingxuan, who had come from the modern world, couldn’t help feeling a little heartbroken.

Mo Yanzhi truly deserved his reputation as a martial artist. The moment Han Tingxuan approached, he noticed him immediately.

Mo Yanzhi quickly put down the bowl of coarse-grain food he’d already eaten more than half of and came over.

“Why did you get up? If you need anything, just call me.”

Han Tingxuan smiled. “Lying in bed gets tiring too.”

Then he walked into the kitchen.

“How much polished rice is left at home?” Han Tingxuan asked.

Mo Yanzhi’s heart gave a little thump.

He answered softly, “Not much. Three large bowls’ worth. It’s only enough to last you three or four days. We wouldn’t get much money for selling it.”

Did he think Han Tingxuan wanted to sell the rice for money?

Han Tingxuan paused.

After thinking about it, he realized that this really was something the original owner did every few days…

The original owner frequently took the rice from their home, as well as the game Mo Yanzhi had hunted but hadn’t yet had a chance to sell, and sold them off cheaply!

And the money he got was used for drinking and gambling!

Han Tingxuan really didn’t know what to say about the original owner.

And his own situation was pretty miserable too.

How had he ended up with such a predecessor?

Mo Yanzhi had thought that as soon as he said this, he would immediately be met with a round of cursing, followed by punches and kicks.

But he was already used to it.

Besides, Han Tingxuan was small and didn’t have much strength. As far as Mo Yanzhi was concerned, he couldn’t really cause any serious harm.

That was also why Mo Yanzhi never fought back.

More importantly, he genuinely felt guilty in his heart.

He had already prepared himself to be beaten, but unexpectedly, Han Tingxuan merely smiled.

“I wasn’t planning to sell it. We don’t even have enough to eat. I was just asking.”

Mo Yanzhi didn’t believe him.

Moreover, Han Tingxuan’s attitude today was far too good. There had to be a reason for it.

So he simply remained silent.

Sure enough, Han Tingxuan continued, “After we finish eating, let’s go to town.”

So that’s what this was about…

Mo Yanzhi began guessing why Han Tingxuan wanted to go to town despite still being injured.

After a moment, he decided it was probably to get revenge.

He knew that he had martial arts skills, so Han Tingxuan was probably planning to have him act as the muscle.

As for those local thugs, Mo Yanzhi did indeed intend to deal with them.

But the best way would actually be to sneak over at night, beat them up badly, and make sure they couldn’t get hold of any evidence.

Going in broad daylight would probably cause trouble!

Although these thoughts crossed his mind, Mo Yanzhi didn’t say anything.

If Han Tingxuan decided to do something and he refused to listen, the one who would suffer would be himself.

So be it if they went during the day…

Whatever happened, Mo Yanzhi wasn’t afraid!

After thinking it all through, Mo Yanzhi simply replied, “Okay.”

Han Tingxuan had no idea that Mo Yanzhi had managed to think through all of that in just a few seconds.

Nor did he know that his “husband” had decided to give him face and take the risk of going into town during the day to help him get revenge.

He simply smiled after hearing Mo Yanzhi agree.

In his mind, he was already calculating how to make his first pot of gold and resolve the most basic crisis of all: having enough money to eat and live.
