Inside the house, the old mother of Li Yanhua heard the screams and began slamming her body against the door.
Bang! Bang bang!
“Open the door! Zhou Jingyi, you crazy woman! What did you do to my son?!”
Zhou Jingyi walked to the door holding an axe and slid back the bolt.
The door opened—and the disheveled old woman immediately rushed out, howling.
She stumbled toward her son, who was rolling on the ground.
But before she could even touch him, Zhou Jingyi grabbed her by her white hair.
She dragged her step by step toward the corner of the courtyard.
Inside the pigsty, several fat pigs snorted excitedly, pushing their snouts against the wooden fence.
“Let me go! You poisonous woman! You’ll die horribly!”
Ignoring the curses, Zhou Jingyi opened the pigsty gate and, amid the old woman’s piercing screams, kicked her inside.
“Aaah!”
The old woman fell hard into the wet, foul-smelling mud.
The pigs immediately gathered around her, snorting excitedly and even nudging her face with their dirty snouts.
Then Zhou Jingyi returned to the courtyard, grabbed Li Yanhua by the hair, and dragged him slowly toward the pigsty.
His ruined legs scraped across the rough ground, leaving two bloody trails.
He clawed desperately at the ground, nails splitting.
“Jingyi! I was wrong! Don’t… don’t drag me in there! Please!”
Zhou Jingyi threw him in with force. With a clang, she locked the wooden gate again.
Standing outside the pigsty, she looked at the mother and son crying and being pushed around by pigs, her voice calm.
“Didn’t your father always say you were born worthless?”
“Then the pigsty is exactly where you belong.”
She paused slightly.
“Don’t worry, you won’t starve. You’ll be fed pig food every day.”
After speaking, she turned and went to the well in the courtyard, drawing water and repeatedly washing her hands.
The yard was left with only the mother and son’s wails—and the pigs’ excited grunting.
On the wall, Feng Zexuan withdrew her gaze and let out a long breath.
【Holy crap! Sister, you’re my god! Precise strike, physical purification—this is so satisfying!】
She clapped the dust off her hands and was about to leave.
Clack.
A pebble slipped from the wall where she was hiding and fell to the ground.
Zhou Jingyi, who was washing at the well, stopped moving.
She lifted her head and looked directly toward the shadow behind the wall.
【…】
【Damn.】
【I got caught?!】
“Come down,” Zhou Jingyi said softly, but clearly.
After a brief thought, Feng Zexuan decided to meet her.
She lightly jumped down from the wall and landed silently on a pile of dry straw in the corner.
“Um… sister, I was just passing by.”
She immediately raised her hands.
“Pure accident. Your roof… has a great view. I didn’t see anything, my ears are bad, my eyes are a bit blurry too.”
Zhou Jingyi ignored her nonsense and just looked at her deeply, making Feng Zexuan feel a little uneasy.
Then she turned and went inside.
A moment later, she came back out carrying a large basket.
Inside were neatly arranged persimmons—golden, still with green stems.
“It’s getting cold. These won’t last long. Take them. I can’t finish them alone.”
She handed the basket over.
Feng Zexuan looked at the persimmons, then at the pigsty in the distance where the mother and son were still rolling around, feeling like the world had become surreal.
【What the hell… is this… hush money?】
She hesitated, then took it. It was heavy.
“Then… thank you, sister. Your persimmons… look very good.”
She hugged the basket, feeling like a petty thief who had stumbled into a crime scene.
“Then I’ll… head off now. Take care.”
Before leaving, Feng Zexuan’s fingers moved slightly in her sleeve. A pale golden talisman slipped out and flicked toward the inside of the pigsty gate.
It stuck silently to the wood and vanished.
【The Calmness Talisman I got from the system finally came in handy.】
【She’s a good person… just married a beast. This should at least quiet them down so she can live peacefully later.】
【Consider it my tip for the performance.】
The noisy crying and cursing inside the pigsty quickly faded, leaving only the pigs’ grunting.
Feng Zexuan walked out of the courtyard holding the persimmons.
The cold moonlight stretched her shadow long.
She looked down at the basket, then back at the closed gate, feeling complicated.
【Sigh… as expected, behind every “beautiful madwoman” is a scumbag man who deserves credit for it.】
【Why are there so many people who can’t think straight? Good life right in front of them, and they insist on challenging humanity.】
Just then, the system spoke.
【Host, want to hear a… similar piece of gossip?】
She paused.
【What do you mean?】
【Remember Wu Zhifeng?】
【Wu Zhifeng? The unlucky guy who stole his brother’s identity and even tried to hire killers to get rid of him? What about him?】
【He also has masochistic tendencies.】
【…Huh?】
【Developed later in life, similar to Li Yanhua.】
The system’s tone carried amusement.
【Do you know where he is now?】
【Wasn’t he kicked out by Wu Taijun? Broke and homeless—where could he be?】
【He went back to Concubine Liu.】
【What?!】
Feng Zexuan was shocked.
【Didn’t he hate her? The one who abused him for 19 years? Even if she’s his biological mother!】
【After being expelled, he had no money and nowhere to go.】
【After wandering the streets for two days, he realized the only place he could stay… was with the person who used to beat him.】
【So he found Concubine Liu’s rented courtyard. She already knew he was her son and regretted everything, crying and promising to treat him well.】
【Then what? Happy reunion?】
Feng Zexuan frowned, sensing something was off.
【Then Wu Zhifeng couldn’t adapt.】
The system chuckled.
【The better Concubine Liu treated him—good food, tonic soups, new clothes—the more uneasy he became.】
【He realized he missed the days when she cursed at him viciously and hit him with bamboo whips.】
Feng Zexuan tightened her grip on the basket.
【What the hell… another masochist? People really prefer being beaten over living well?】
【Exactly.】
The system continued eagerly.
【So he started provoking her on purpose—knocking over meals she cooked, tearing newly sewn clothes—trying to force her back into the old way of treating him. But Concubine Liu felt guilty and always endured it, even comforting him instead.】
【That made him even more uncomfortable. He felt life was unbearable.】
Feng Zexuan stopped walking, completely speechless.
【So… what does he actually want?】
【He wants things to go back to how they were.】
The system’s voice turned faint.
【Last night, Concubine Liu made him chicken soup. He said it was too hot, poured the whole bowl onto the ground, smashed the bowl, and pointed at her nose calling her a lowly woman.】
【This time, Concubine Liu finally couldn’t take it anymore…】
