After introducing the two men, Zhang Ran turned to Meng Mingxuan.
“I need you to find me a game designer within the next couple of days. I’ll be needing one.”
Without asking why, Meng Mingxuan immediately agreed.
Having learned everything he needed about the acquisition’s progress, Zhang Ran looked at Meng Mingxuan’s exhausted appearance and said, “Alright, go home and get some rest.”
“Don’t work yourself into the ground, or I’ll have a hard time explaining it to your father.”
Meng Mingxuan puffed out his chest.
“Uncle Zhang, you’re underestimating me.”
“I’m in great shape.”
Zhang Ran looked at the young man’s obviously worn-out appearance, curled his lips in disdain, and waved him away.
“Quit pretending and go get some sleep.”
Meng Mingxuan laughed awkwardly.
Just as he was about to leave, he suddenly remembered something.
“Oh, right, Uncle Zhang.”
“Have you got any free time lately?”
“I don’t have anything scheduled at the moment.”
“Why?”
“It’s like this…”
“Some of my friends would like to meet you.”
“Don’t worry—I haven’t told them anything about your background.”
Zhang Ran looked puzzled.
“What do they want with me?”
Scratching his head awkwardly, Meng Mingxuan admitted, “Well…”
“I got drunk once and… bragged a little.”
“You know how it is.”
In reality, most of his boasting had revolved around the bracelet and necklace.
Several of his friends wanted to buy similar pieces, so they hoped Meng Mingxuan could introduce them to Zhang Ran.
Others, however, genuinely wanted to meet him.
Ning Qing was one of them.
She knew Meng Mingxuan hadn’t lied to her that day.
Afterward, she’d even asked her father about Zhang Ran.
Her father hadn’t known many details, only vague rumors, but he had warned her about one thing: “Whatever you do, don’t provoke Zhang Ran.”
That warning only made her even more curious about Meng Mingxuan’s mysterious “Uncle Zhang.”
After thinking for a moment, Zhang Ran nodded.
“Alright.”
“I actually have something I’d like to discuss with them as well.”
“Arrange a time that’s convenient.”
“I’ll treat everyone to dinner.”
Meeting these wealthy young heirs had always been part of Zhang Ran’s plans.
Originally, he’d intended to have Meng Mingxuan contact them later.
Since they wanted to meet now, he might as well do it sooner.
One reason Zhang Ran had asked Meng Mingxuan to recruit these wealthy heirs to help with the acquisition was precisely to make them aware of—and interested in—Zhang Sicheng’s game company.
Curious, Meng Mingxuan asked, “What do you need them for?”
“You’ll find out when the time comes.”
“It’s nothing bad.”
Meng Mingxuan didn’t ask further.
Instead, he pulled out his phone and sent a message.
A moment later he looked up.
“Uncle Zhang, they’re all bored out of their minds right now.”
“If you’re free, we can meet them today.”
Originally, he hadn’t considered the gathering particularly important.
But since Zhang Ran said he had business with them, Meng Mingxuan immediately moved to arrange everything.
Zhang Ran nodded.
“Alright.”
“Pick a place.”
“My treat.”
Meng Mingxuan replied, “Let’s go to a private club I often visit.”
“It’s quiet and good for discussing business.”
“I’ll book a private room now.”
After making the reservation, he said, “Uncle Zhang, Uncle He, I’ll lead the way.”
He was just about to get into his own car when Zhang Ran stopped him.
“Forget it.”
“You’re exhausted.”
“Don’t drive.”
“Ride with us.”
“Let Uncle He drive.”
An hour later they arrived.
Looking around, Zhang Ran nodded inwardly.
The place really was quite nice.
Though admittedly……it was rather luxurious.
Meng Mingxuan’s friends had already arrived.
After making introductions, most of them froze for a moment upon seeing how young Zhang Ran looked.
A few, however, recovered quickly.
The first to speak was Ning Qing.
“So you’re the Uncle Zhang Mingxuan told us about.”
“My name is Ning Qing.”
“You can just call me Xiao Qing—or Qingqing.”
She openly studied Zhang Ran with curious eyes.
The gentle, approachable man before her looked nothing like the person Meng Mingxuan had described.
Meng Mingxuan quickly introduced her.
“Uncle Zhang, this is Ning Qing.”
“Her uncle’s company is handling Brother Sicheng’s home renovation.”
After everyone became acquainted and the dishes were served, Zhang Ran spoke first.
“Before anything else…”
“I’d like to thank all of you for helping recently.”
Ning Qing immediately smiled.
“Mingxuan is our friend.”
“It was only natural.”
“And honestly, it wasn’t anything difficult.”
They all knew that Meng Mingxuan had asked for their help because Zhang Ran was buying a company for his son.
But the truth was…
They were far more curious about Zhang Ran himself.
They all knew exactly what kind of person Meng Mingxuan had always been.
He wasn’t exactly lazy, but he’d certainly never been this hardworking.
Yet ever since Uncle Zhang assigned him this task…
He had completely transformed.
The change had left all of them stunned.
They wanted to see what kind of man Zhang Ran really was.
What sort of charisma could make Meng Mingxuan change so dramatically with just a single instruction?
After all, even Meng Mingxuan didn’t always listen so obediently to his own father.
Zhang Ran chatted casually with everyone for a while before suddenly asking, “Do all of you play games?”
“And what do you think of the gaming industry?”
The group exchanged confused looks.
What was Zhang Ran getting at?
Was he trying to recruit them into some business?
After hesitating briefly, Ning Qing answered, “I don’t really play PC games.”
“I mostly play mobile games.”
“They’re convenient, quick, and good for killing time.”
Zhang Ran smiled.
“Then what do you think about the gaming market?”
Someone immediately laughed.
“Do we even need to answer that?”
“Everyone knows games make money nowadays.”
“Just look at all those gaming companies.”
“They’re practically printing money.”
“And people like us have contributed quite a bit to their profits.”
Another nodded.
“Exactly.”
“People are busier than ever.”
“They don’t have much time for entertainment.”
“Mobile games keep getting bigger and bigger.”
“And they’re incredibly profitable.”
After listening, Zhang Ran nodded.
Then he asked another question.
“What about esports clubs?”
“And professional players?”
Since he had already made up his mind, Zhang Ran had long since formulated a rough plan.
The gaming market was booming.
But compared with the previous life he remembered, professional esports leagues and gaming clubs were still developing much more slowly.
He could guess why.
This world had yet to produce a game comparable to League of Legends.
In his previous life, the explosive rise of esports clubs owed an enormous debt to that single title.
It captured worldwide attention and united gamers across the globe.
Without League of Legends, esports organizations would never have grown so rapidly.
They wouldn’t have attracted such widespread attention.
Nor would massive amounts of investment capital have poured into the industry.
And that…was precisely why Zhang Ran had chosen to approach these wealthy second-generation heirs.
