Ning Qing fell silent.
She didn’t know whether Meng Mingxuan was telling the truth, but she knew he wasn’t the type to lie about something like this.
If what he said was true—that his uncle had broken Tian Yaohui’s future in-laws’ legs right in front of Tian Yaohui, and Tian Yaohui had been powerless to stop him—then she definitely couldn’t afford to provoke such a person.
Not even her father would have enough influence.
“Then… who exactly are they?” Ning Qing asked after taking a deep breath.
She couldn’t understand it.
If Meng Mingxuan’s uncle was really that capable, why would his own son and daughter-in-law be trying to sell a necklace?
“You don’t need to worry about that,” Meng Mingxuan replied.
“If you’re curious, you can ask Uncle Ning. He probably knows something.”
Naturally, he wasn’t about to tell her the truth.
In fact, he was beginning to understand Zhang Ran’s thinking.
He had seen too many people who became rich overnight, only to squander everything.
Every year, a new batch of newly wealthy people would enter their social circle, partying and making friends.
But after a year or two—sometimes even less—they would quietly disappear.
“Is the renovation project you mentioned… for them?” Ning Qing suddenly remembered their earlier conversation.
“That’s right.”
“Of course, if you don’t want to help anymore, that’s fine.”
Meng Mingxuan assumed she was embarrassed after being turned down.
Instead, Ning Qing was silent for a moment before smiling warmly.
“I’m sorry.”
“I lost my composure just now.”
“I simply liked the necklace too much.”
Zhang Sicheng and Liu Lu looked at her in bewilderment.
Her attitude had changed so suddenly that neither of them knew what to make of it.
Nor did they know what Meng Mingxuan had whispered to her.
Meng Mingxuan, however, smiled as well.
It seemed he had underestimated Ning Qing.
Once she understood the situation, she immediately knew how to treat Zhang Sicheng and Liu Lu.
“Brother Sicheng, this is Ning Qing, a friend of mine.”
“The renovation will be handled by her uncle’s company.”
“When you have time, you can go pick out some design plans and choose whichever style you like.”
Before Zhang Sicheng could answer, Ning Qing spoke.
“No need to wait.”
“If Mingxuan calls you Brother Sicheng, then you’re friends of mine too.”
“Let’s go to my uncle’s company right now.”
“We’ll have someone inspect the house first and prepare several design proposals.”
“This…”
Zhang Sicheng didn’t know what to say.
Meng Mingxuan smiled.
“If you have time now, we might as well go.”
“The sooner you settle on a design, the sooner the renovation can start.”
“And the sooner you can move in.”
Those words struck directly at Zhang Sicheng and Liu Lu’s hearts.
More than anything, they wanted to live in their new home as soon as possible.
Their resolve immediately weakened.
Nearby, Fan Kai watched Ning Qing’s dramatic change in attitude and felt utterly miserable.
Still, he wisely kept quiet.
Just moments ago she’d been determined.
But after exchanging a few whispered words with Meng Mingxuan, she had completely changed her stance.
He didn’t know what had been said.
But he knew better than to get involved.
These wealthy young heirs could change their faces in an instant.
More importantly…
The way Ning Qing looked at him now wasn’t exactly friendly.
…
On the way there, Meng Zixuan asked curiously, “What exactly did you tell Ning Qing?”
“She’s not someone who gives up that easily.”
She knew nothing about Sun Ermin.
Likewise, Meng Mingxuan knew nothing about Kang Shilan.
Meng Zixuan didn’t know what Huo Zhiyuan intended to do, so she dared not mention anything.
After all, it involved Kang Shilan’s greatest secret.
She hadn’t even told Meng He.
Meng Mingxuan thought for a moment before recounting yesterday’s events.
He had nothing to hide from his older sister.
After hearing everything, Meng Zixuan’s pupils contracted.
Compared to her brother, she actually knew much more.
At the very least…
She knew about Kang Shilan.
Now Tian Yaohui had entered the picture as well.
The impossible theory she’d secretly been entertaining suddenly seemed to have far more supporting evidence.
“Sis? Sis?”
Meng Mingxuan waved a hand in front of her face.
“What are you thinking about?”
“Nothing.”
She quickly forced herself to stop thinking about it.
“You’ve already started introducing them into our circle?”
“What does Uncle Zhang think about that?”
Meng Mingxuan shrugged.
“I know what Uncle Zhang is thinking, so I figured I’d test the waters first.”
“They’ll have to meet everyone eventually.”
“Better sooner than later.”
“And honestly…”
“Based on their actual assets, they’re basically in the same league as us.”
“It wouldn’t hurt for everyone to get acquainted.”
“But I don’t dare make the decision myself.”
“I’ll call Uncle Zhang tonight and explain everything.”
“We’ll see what he thinks.”
Hearing her brother say that Zhang Sicheng and Zhang Siyan’s wealth was about the same as theirs…
Meng Zixuan almost blurted out:
Little brother… you’re thinking far too small.
But she swallowed the words.
…
Meanwhile, Zhang Sicheng and Liu Lu were riding in Meng Mingxuan’s car.
Wang Jiajia had already left after coming outside.
“Um…”
“Mingxuan… Zixuan…”
“Could you… not tell… well…”
“My dad about this?”
Zhang Sicheng asked awkwardly after some hesitation.
Meng Mingxuan smiled.
“Of course.”
“Don’t worry, Brother Sicheng.”
“I won’t tell Uncle Zhang.”
Hearing that, both Zhang Sicheng and Liu Lu breathed sighs of relief.
What they didn’t know was that Meng Mingxuan fully intended to report everything to Zhang Ran later.
“We really didn’t want to sell the necklace.”
“It’s just…”
“I might lose my job.”
“I’m worried we won’t have enough money to live on.”
“So we thought of selling it.”
After hesitating, Zhang Sicheng honestly explained the situation.
He didn’t want Meng Mingxuan to misunderstand.
Liu Lu was startled.
“You never told me.”
Zhang Sicheng smiled bitterly.
“I didn’t want you to worry.”
Watching the young couple in the back seat agonizing over the possibility of losing a single job…
Both Meng Mingxuan and Meng Zixuan had an overwhelming urge to say:
You two have absolutely no idea how wealthy you really are.
When Zhang Sicheng and Liu Lu finally left the renovation company, they were still in a daze.
From beginning to end, everyone had only asked them questions like:
- What style do you prefer?
- Which design do you like?
- Are there any taboos or special requirements?
No one had mentioned money even once.
Every time they tried asking about the cost…
Ning Qing or Meng Mingxuan would immediately change the subject.
They simply told the couple to choose whatever they liked.
Even more surprising was Ning Qing’s attitude.
She was extraordinarily polite.
Nothing like the proud, domineering woman who had earlier insisted on buying their necklace.
They still couldn’t figure out what Meng Mingxuan had said to her.
In reality, Ning Qing’s reasoning was simple.
She genuinely loved the necklace.
But compared to owning a beautiful piece of jewelry…
Making friends with someone that powerful was far more valuable.
In the end, Zhang Sicheng and Liu Lu still hadn’t chosen a renovation style.
Not because they were picky.
They simply wanted to ask Zhang Ran for his opinion.
After all, he had bought them the house.
They didn’t want to make all the decisions themselves only to discover later that Zhang Ran disliked the final result.
Meanwhile, Zhang Ran was resting with the two children inside the amusement park when he received Meng Mingxuan’s phone call.
After hearing about Zhang Sicheng and Liu Lu’s thoughts…
He stared blankly up at the sky.
Only when Zhang Xiaotao called out to him did he finally come back to his senses.
At that moment…
He quietly made a decision in his heart.
