Zhang Siyan said with a hint of sarcasm,

“Sun Gaixin doesn’t really object, but my parents-in-law do. They’re only willing to give a one-time payment of 100,000 yuan.”

Qian Li couldn’t help cursing.

“Those two old geezers are making trouble again?”

Over the years, Zhang Siyan had suffered countless grievances because of them.

After venting, Qian Li looked puzzled.

“Yanyan, did you ever offend them or something? Why have they seemed to target you ever since? Weren’t they perfectly fine before you got married?”

Zhang Siyan found the situation equally confusing.

“I don’t know.”

“Before the wedding, they weren’t especially warm toward me, but we could at least get along.”

“I just feel that after our families officially met, their attitude completely changed.”

She frowned.

By the time she and Sun Gaixin were preparing for marriage, Yu Qingwan had already passed away, so Zhang Sicheng had attended the family meeting as her guardian.

Qian Li sighed.

“Do you think it has something to do with Susu? Maybe those two old fossils just prefer boys.”

“Look at how they treat Susu—they don’t treat her like their own granddaughter at all.”

Zhang Siyan shook her head.

“Maybe that’s part of it, but I don’t think it’s the whole reason.”

“Sure, they do favor boys, but it’s not like I can’t have more children.”

“If they really wanted a grandson, I could still have another baby.”

“That alone shouldn’t make them target me like this.”

“Forget it.”

Qian Li waved her hand irritably.

“Talking about this just ruins the mood.”

She had always wanted to stand up for her best friend the way she used to.

But she also knew that family disputes weren’t something outsiders should interfere in casually.

No matter how unfair things seemed, unless the people involved asked for help, meddling usually only made things worse.

While they were talking, Zhao Jingyu walked into the shop.

She had deliberately chosen this time because it was usually the quietest part of the day.

Seeing a customer enter, Qian Li hurriedly put away her lunchbox.

This, however, was hardly a normal situation.

She was speaking to someone who might very well become her future employer.

Hearing the introduction, both Zhang Siyan and Qian Li were skeptical but dared not be disrespectful.

They exchanged nervous glances.

To them, the assistant to the company’s president was already an important figure.

Qian Li only gave the ID badge a quick glance.

She didn’t dare call to verify it in front of Zhao Jingyu.

If it turned out to be genuine, offending the president’s assistant would be disastrous.

“Assistant Zhao…”

“What brings you here?”

“Did we do something wrong?”

Qian Li asked uneasily.

Looking at her anxious expression, Zhao Jingyu was momentarily at a loss for words.

She had already reviewed the background information on both Qian Li and Zhang Siyan.

If nothing unexpected happened, then as Zhang Siyan rose to prominence, Qian Li—her closest friend, who had supported her without reservation during her hardest days—would almost certainly rise alongside her.

“Assistant Zhao?”

Zhao Jingyu gestured for her to relax.

“We know.”

“That’s precisely why the two of you have been selected as candidates for our new distributor program.”

Both Zhang Siyan and Qian Li stared blankly.

They felt as though they couldn’t understand a single word she had just said.

Selected as candidates for new distributors?

Wasn’t becoming a distributor supposed to depend on business channels and financial investment?

Besides, Kanshilan’s distributor network had long since stabilized.

Although adjustments were made every year, they were usually minor.

And what did any of this have to do with a tiny cosmetics shop like theirs?

Could they even be called distributors?

Those words immediately weakened the suspicion in Zhang Siyan and Qian Li’s hearts.

Could something this good really fall into their laps?

Finally, Qian Li asked the question weighing most heavily on her mind.

“Why did your company choose us?”

Zhao Jingyu smiled.

“This decision was made after a confidential evaluation conducted by the company.”

“And to be honest, the company also intends to use this opportunity to establish its own internal sales network.”

Strictly speaking, Zhao Jingyu wasn’t supposed to reveal any of that.

If she had been speaking to anyone else, she wouldn’t have disclosed a single word.

But these were potentially her future bosses.

Moreover, Huo Zhiyuan had specifically instructed her that she could reveal a few internal details if she thought it appropriate.

As expected, those additional details made her explanation much more believable.

“When did you investigate us?”

Qian Li asked blankly before immediately realizing how foolish the question sounded.

If she knew about it beforehand……it wouldn’t have been a secret evaluation.

Seeing they still looked doubtful, Zhao Jingyu sighed inwardly.

“The easiest way is for you to verify my identity.”

Because the entire operation was being carried out confidentially, she couldn’t simply issue official company orders through normal channels.

That would interfere with Huo Zhiyuan’s broader plans.

So the best way to gain their trust was to let them confirm who she was.

Just as Qian Li and Zhang Siyan were preparing to verify Zhao Jingyu’s credentials…two more people walked into the shop.

The moment the women recognized them…both Zhang Siyan’s and Qian Li’s expressions immediately turned extremely ugly.
