As they spoke, everyone sprang into action. Several people rushed toward the surveillance room, while the rest headed to the front gate.

Just as they reached the entrance, a middle-aged woman came in with a little girl, holding up a phone with a shattered screen.

“Officer, we found this phone at the entrance. We don’t know who it belongs to!”

Xu Biao had sharp eyes. He rushed over in a few quick steps and snatched the phone. Turning it over, he saw a golden star sticker on the back. His face immediately turned pale.

“Little girl, tell uncle where you found this phone. Did you see anyone nearby?”

The girl’s guardian stood behind her, confused. Xu Biao’s eyes were red with anxiety as he grabbed the woman’s sleeve.

“Sister, I’m begging you, please tell me exactly where you found this phone!”

Seeing his reaction, the woman realized the owner of the phone must be missing. She pointed toward the flowerbed on the east side of the entrance.

“It was right here! We were passing by when Xiao Ting heard a buzzing vibration sound, and then we saw this phone. There was no one around.”

Xu Biao looked in disbelief. Holding Zhou Hai’s phone, he grabbed Captain Hu by the collar and shook him violently.

“Where is Zhou Hai?! Find him! All of you go find him, damn it! What are you standing around for?!”

Captain Hu grabbed the agitated fat man. At that moment, Fengzi and the others also rushed down upon hearing the commotion. Halfway through hearing Xu Biao’s words, they also lost their composure.

“Why did the chief suddenly disappear? Why is his phone here?”

Sweat broke out on Captain Hu’s forehead.

“Don’t panic. I know who Zhou Hai is to your team, and I’m just as anxious. But the more this happens, the calmer we must be. I’ve already sent someone to check the surveillance. Let’s go take a look together. Yu Yongliang, assemble the team and wait for my orders.”

After saying that, Captain Hu rushed into the surveillance room.

“Did you find anything?”

Da Li nodded solemnly.

“Chief, come take a look. The forensic doctor Zhou got into a taxi and left on his own.”

Xu Biao, now unable to trust anyone, followed Captain Hu to the monitor.

Sure enough, one camera facing the east side of the entrance showed Zhou Hai sitting on a stone by the flowerbed, making a phone call. Then he stood up as a taxi stopped beside him.

However, due to the angle, it was impossible to tell whether Zhou Hai had called the taxi or whether it had stopped there on its own.

They saw Zhou Hai looking at the vehicle and seemingly talking for a while. Then he threw his phone toward the entrance of the police station, opened the door, and got into the taxi. The car then disappeared from the frame.

“Is this the only surveillance? What about the surrounding roads? We should be able to trace where he went! Captain Hu, hurry up and find him!” Fengzi squeezed in, while Xiao Liang stood at the door blocking others from entering. The three of them worked together in coordination. Zhou Hai’s sudden disappearance felt deeply suspicious, but the attitude of the Migao police made them extremely frustrated.

Captain Hu spread his hands.

“Xu Biao, don’t rush. You saw it—Zhou Hai got into the car on his own, not under coercion. How do you expect me to proceed? Should I file a case saying he was kidnapped?”

Xu Biao grabbed him again by the collar.

“Captain Hu, look carefully! Who leaves on their own and throws away their phone? If this isn’t coercion, then what the hell is it?! Give me a straight answer—are you going to search or not? If not, I’ll organize the search myself!”

Captain Hu shoved him away. He was also anxious, but being grabbed by the collar in his own jurisdiction made him lose all face, and his temper flared.

“You are guests invited by Migao, and of course we will ensure your safety—”

Fengzi stepped forward. Although Da Li remained seated, the two officers beside him who were handling surveillance came over to pull Xu Biao’s arm.

“Stop talking bureaucratic nonsense! Our chief is not someone who would act so irresponsibly. Xu Biao, contact Liu Da directly. We’ll search ourselves. Captain Hu, please extract this surveillance footage. We’ll send it to experts to analyze it and see if we can determine the license plate and route. That shouldn’t violate your procedures, right?”

Hearing Fengzi’s words, Xu Biao gradually calmed down. Getting angry now wouldn’t help. Fengzi was right—contacting Liu Da was their best hope. He quickly released Captain Hu’s collar, even straightened his clothes for him, then wrote down an email address and gave Fengzi a look.

Fengzi asked them to extract the footage and send it to Professor Nan Wudao. Then he called Professor Nan and briefly explained the situation. The professor agreed immediately and said he would respond within five minutes.

Xu Biao glanced at Xiao Liang, who was still holding the glass door at the entrance, and signaled him to let go. Xiao Liang, already exhausted, released the handle. Instantly, a group of officers rushed inside.

Fengzi glanced at them, then at Captain Hu, and gave a faint smile.

“Let’s wait five minutes.”

At this point, Captain Hu had nothing to say. He didn’t want anything to happen to Zhou Hai either—if something really did happen, he would not be able to bear the consequences. But based on just a surveillance clip, concluding that Zhou Hai had been kidnapped or forcibly taken was indeed a stretch.

Xu Biao paced anxiously. Liu Da’s phone was still busy and unreachable. Just as he was about to dial again, another call came in—Chu Menghan’s name flashed repeatedly on the screen.

Xu Biao’s lips trembled. It felt like seeing a savior. He quickly answered.

“Hello, Chu Menghan?”

“Why is Zhou Hai’s phone unreachable? I’ve arrived at the Migao police station. Where are you?”

Hearing that Chu Menghan had arrived, Xu Biao immediately headed toward the entrance. The officers blocking the door stepped aside to make way. Halfway there, he saw Chu Menghan walking in through the gate.

Xu Biao almost cried.

“Chu Menghan, why are you here?!”

Chu Menghan narrowed her eyes. Xu Biao was usually shameless and joking, always calling her “Beauty Chu.” His current reaction was completely abnormal.

Something was wrong. Zhou Hai must have had an accident.

Her expression instantly tightened as she grabbed Xu Biao’s arm.

“Where is Zhou Hai? What happened? He’s someone whose phone is always on 24 hours a day—why is he unreachable?”

Xu Biao took a deep breath and organized his thoughts.

“Zhou Hai went out about ten minutes ago to make a call. We had just analyzed some clues, then I came downstairs and found he wasn’t there. Right then, a little girl brought his phone over, saying she found it at the entrance.

We immediately started searching everywhere in the station, but couldn’t find him.

Then we checked the surveillance, and saw that about ten minutes ago, he was standing at the entrance making a call, then got into a taxi and threw his phone in front of the gate before leaving.

I’ve already sent the footage to Professor Nan to analyze the license plate and vehicle information.”

Chu Menghan’s eyes widened instantly.

“What do you mean? Are you saying Zhou Hai was kidnapped?”

At that moment, Fengzi rushed out of the door and shouted toward Xu Biao: “Come quick! Professor Nan replied—he’s identified the taxi’s information!”
