Delicious food, beautiful scenery, and wonderful company made time pass quickly. By the time the three of them returned home, it was already past eleven at night.

The little loli was the first to rush into the room. Before the other two could react, she click—locked the door to the second bedroom from inside.

Lu Xi was completely puzzled. She changed her shoes and hurried to the door. “Luo Luo, what’s wrong?”

The little loli pressed against the door crack, stamping her feet anxiously. “I’m sleeping alone today! It’s Valentine’s Day and you’re not staying with your boyfriend—why are you back here? I’m sleeping now, don’t disturb me. Figure it out yourselves!”

Lu Xi was momentarily speechless. She opened her mouth several times but didn’t know what to say. Somehow it felt like the little loli had more experience than she did…

But looking down at her cashmere sweater—she couldn’t possibly sleep in this, right?

Was she supposed to go home in the middle of the night to sleep?

Just as she was hesitating, the door suddenly clicked open. A large bag was thrown straight at her. Caught off guard, she nearly dropped it. She hurriedly crouched down.

At that moment, Zhou Hai walked over and helped her lift it, noticing her awkward posture.

“What’s going on? I just heard Luo Luo yelling—did she go to sleep already?”

Lu Xi nodded, unsure how to explain.

Zhou Hai put down the bag, then gently lifted Lu Xi’s face. Looking at her flushed cheeks, he immediately understood what was going on.

It must be the little loli causing trouble again—trying to push Lu Xi into sleeping with him.

Even though it was Valentine’s Day, Zhou Hai didn’t want to rush anything with her.

He picked up the bag and brought Lu Xi into his room. Seeing how nervous she looked, he patted her shoulder.

“You sleep in my room tonight. I’ll sleep on the sofa in the study. Tomorrow we’ll buy another bed, so each of us can have our own room. That’ll be more convenient.”

Lu Xi froze. She hadn’t expected him to guess everything so accurately.

But seeing how considerate he was, she became a little anxious instead. She suddenly grabbed his arm and hugged him from behind, pressing her body against his back.

“You… you’re avoiding me? Don’t you have any interest in me?”

Zhou Hai patted her hand and turned around, gently lifting her chin.

“How could I not be interested?” he said softly. “I just think things are moving too fast. We still have a long time ahead. I want you to understand everything about me first, and then give you a beautiful memory. Tonight is too rushed—it wouldn’t be fair to you.”

Lu Xi looked into his eyes. In those dark pupils, she saw only her reflection.

At that moment, any explanation felt unnecessary. She understood—this man cared about her, valued her, and treated her as someone precious. He wasn’t perfect, but he was trying his best to learn how to love properly.

“Don’t sleep in the study,” she said quickly. “You’re too tall. You won’t fit on the sofa. Just sleep here.”

Zhou Hai glanced at her. Although Lu Xi was slim, squeezing into that small sofa would also be uncomfortable.

“Stop arguing. Go wash up first,” he said.

Lu Xi nodded, hugged the bag, and rushed into the bathroom in the master bedroom.

The bathroom was filled with the faint scent of Zhou Hai’s shaving cream. After quickly washing up, she changed into a bunny onesie and walked out—but Zhou Hai was not in the room.

She checked the study. Empty.

When she reached the living room, she saw Zhou Hai lying on a large blanket spread across the carpet, already appearing asleep.

Lu Xi touched the floor. Thankfully, the heated flooring was warm enough.

After thinking for a moment, she went back to the bedroom, took a blanket and pillow, and quietly lay down beside him.

Only this close did she feel at ease. Breathing in the scent of the blanket mixed with Zhou Hai’s unique pine-like smell, she gradually fell asleep.

In the darkness, Zhou Hai opened his eyes and let out a soft sigh.

This silly girl had just thrown herself at him. Did she really think he was some saint? Normal biological reactions were hard to resist.

He tossed and turned all night without really sleeping—but he didn’t dare move, afraid she would wake up.

So he just lay there with half-closed eyes. Lu Xi’s steady breathing made his heart unusually calm. Occasionally she would shift closer unconsciously, and eventually even draped a leg over him.

No one knew when he finally fell asleep.

When he woke up, Lu Xi was already hugging his arm tightly, their bodies completely entwined.

Zhou Hai slowly pulled his arm and leg free. The moment he stood up, Lu Xi woke up.

“You’re awake?” she asked.

He nodded. “I’m going to wash up first.”

He rushed back to the master bedroom. Lu Xi watched him leave in confusion, then got up and started humming while tidying the blanket on the floor.

At that moment, someone tapped her shoulder.

She jumped in shock, almost dropping the blanket. Thinking it was Zhou Hai returning to scare her, she turned around angrily—

But it was the little loli, fully dressed and standing there.

“Luo Luo, why are you up so early?” Lu Xi asked.

The little loli looked disgusted. “I was worried about you two. So… did you successfully pin Zhou Zhou down?”

Lu Xi blushed. “No.”

The little loli’s eyes widened. “Oh my god—he can’t?”

And then the room exploded into chaos, filled with laughter and the little loli’s cries for mercy.

The Year of the Sheep Spring Festival arrived as scheduled. Zhou Hai drove the two of them to Xi’an. Although the trip was tiring, the strong festive atmosphere made them reluctant to leave. They only returned to Dongnan on the fifth day of the lunar new year, because the next day was the little loli’s birthday.

Both Lu Xi and Zhou Hai had asked her what gift she wanted, but she only sighed and didn’t answer. Zhou Hai guessed she might be hoping for Teacher John’s blessing.

They tried contacting John on Facebook several times, but there was no reply. Phone calls were answered by his lawyer, who said John had fallen again while using his wheelchair and was now forced to rest in bed.

Zhou Hai was very worried, but after seeing a photo sent by the lawyer, he felt slightly relieved.

John was in an isolation ward, his legs suspended in support devices. He raised a victory sign toward the glass window—his expression and spirit still seemed good.

Only then did Zhou Hai relax.

On February 24, Zhou Hai personally cooked a full table of dishes, while Lu Xi baked a cranberry cake. Their thoughtful preparations finally helped the little loli shake off some of her gloom.

Zhou Hai took out the photo of John and handed it to her.

“Don’t be sad. Teacher John just accidentally injured himself again and was put under observation. This is the photo his lawyer sent us. I’m passing it on to you—and he’s also sending his birthday wishes.”

“Happy birthday.”

Lu Xi hugged the little loli. “I’m really happy to have met you. This is my gift for you.”

She handed over a large pink gift box. The little loli quickly opened it, revealing a beautiful set of clothes and shoes. She was overjoyed and kept thanking her.

Then she looked expectantly at Zhou Hai.

“Zhou Zhou’s gift is…?”
