Xu Biao waved his hand. “With this body of mine, what cold could I possibly catch?”

“It’s just that earlier at Zhang Miaomiao’s house, those perfumes really irritated me. My nose and eyes feel uncomfortable—itchy, like I want to sneeze all the time!”

Zhou Hai handed him a pack of individually wrapped wet wipes, specially disinfected ones.

“Wipe yourself. You’re probably allergic to certain fragrances. Once you remove the allergen, the symptoms should ease quickly.”

Holding the wet wipes, Zhou Hai suddenly had a thought. The more he considered it, the more puzzled he became.

At that moment, Zhou Hai’s phone vibrated. Sister Zeng had sent an email listing the analysis results of the liquid found in Zhang Miaomiao’s water bottle.

When he saw the final item in the composition list, Zhou Hai’s eyes lit up. All his previous doubts suddenly cleared up.

Inside the villa, there was complete silence. Just as Captain Huang was about to press the doorbell again, the double doors suddenly swung open.

Liu Dong appeared at the entrance with an impatient expression. His eyes swept over the uninvited guests one by one. As if realizing something, he stepped out and closed the door behind him.

He was only wearing a cardigan, arms crossed over his chest as he lowered his voice.

“What are you doing at my house?”

Captain Huang took out a search warrant from his briefcase and showed it to him.

“This is a search warrant. We need to search your home.”

Liu Dong’s eyes widened. Clearly shocked, he spread his hands and glanced back at his house, struggling to suppress his anger, then spoke again in a low voice.

“What is this supposed to mean? Zhang Miaomiao is already dead. You’re not going after the murderer—instead you come to search my house?”

Zhou Hai stepped forward and stood beside Captain Huang.

“Because you didn’t tell the truth. Yesterday, on the morning of January 19th, you met Zhang Miaomiao and had sexual intercourse with her at your home. Don’t assume that just because you had a vasectomy we can’t obtain your DNA.”

Liu Dong froze.

As a successful man, having a woman outside his marriage wasn’t shameful—it was almost a kind of pride, even a bragging right, especially when it came to conquering a woman like Zhang Miaomiao.

His eyes shifted uneasily. Captain Huang and Zhou Hai exchanged a glance.

“Cooperate with the search!”

Captain Huang pushed the door open and led the officers inside. The team immediately began searching every room. Liu Dong had no choice but to follow in, rubbing his arms awkwardly.

“Be careful… my younger son just fell asleep after crying all night.”

“Which room is he in?” Zhou Hai stopped and looked at him.

“Second floor, first children’s room on the far west side.”

Zhou Hai glanced at Xu Biao, who immediately understood and followed him upstairs.

At that moment, Liu Dong’s wife came down from the second floor, having heard the commotion. Seeing a group of police officers downstairs, she hurried down and stood in front of her husband, panic and confusion written all over her face.

“What’s going on? Why are there so many police here?”

Liu Dong grabbed her hand. “Don’t worry, they’re investigating Zhang lawyer’s cause of death. We just need to cooperate.”

“……”

Zhou Hai and Xu Biao didn’t stop. They went straight upstairs. Opposite the westernmost children’s room was a small living area, filled with stacked storage boxes. Beside it was a simple tea station—it looked like the place had been converted into a pantry.

Xu Biao looked at Zhou Hai in confusion. “Hai Zi, what are we looking for?”

“A medicine box. A children’s medicine box.”

They began searching separately. Moments later, Xu Biao called out.

“Hai Zi, are these it?”

Zhou Hai turned and walked over. Xu Biao was crouching beside the tea station, a cabinet door open.

He bent down to look. The entire cabinet was filled with various pediatric medicines. Some packages had even been opened and resealed with binder clips.

Among the clutter, a packet of pediatric amoxicillin granules immediately caught Zhou Hai’s attention. He placed it directly into an evidence bag.

Excited, he said, “Found it. This is it!”

“This is the allergen that killed Zhang Miaomiao. Pack up the remaining boxes of pediatric amoxicillin granules in this cabinet and take them back for fingerprint analysis. Compare them with the unknown fingerprints on Zhang Miaomiao’s water bottle.”

Xu Biao frowned in confusion. “Fingerprints? The medicine box used for his son would definitely have his fingerprints, right?”

“Wait—compare with the water bottle… are you suspecting Liu Dong’s wife?”

Zhou Hai stood up, shaking the half-used packet of amoxicillin.

“Yes.”

“The secret is here. Let’s go. We’ll go downstairs and meet Mrs. Liu.”

Although Xu Biao still didn’t fully understand, Zhou Hai’s firm expression told him this must be solid evidence—otherwise he wouldn’t act like this.

They hurried downstairs with their evidence kits.

Liu Dong was still arguing with Captain Huang. When he saw them come down from upstairs, his gaze locked onto them, confused. Wasn’t this supposed to be a search? Why were they done so quickly?

Had they already found evidence?

He glanced at his wife beside him. Though he was flirtatious, he didn’t want to openly expose his affairs in front of her.

Captain Huang also looked at Zhou Hai. Seeing the reassuring nod, the tension in his heart finally eased.

“Is it settled?”

“Yes. We still need to return for comparison, but the person can be taken back. Fingerprints and DNA tests will be conducted as well.”

Captain Huang was delighted to hear that. Whenever Zhou Hai said someone could be taken in, it was basically a sure conviction. But then he paused, slightly puzzled—Liu Dong’s DNA and fingerprints were already on file.

Could it be…

Seeing his expression, Zhou Hai nodded and whispered,

“Yes. You guessed right. The suspect is Mr. Liu’s wife.”

Captain Huang looked at Zhou Hai in shock.

“You’re sure?”

“Certain.”

Captain Huang immediately took out handcuffs and placed them on Liu Dong’s wife.

“Let’s go, Mrs. Liu. Come back with us to clarify things.”

Liu Dong looked completely stunned and grabbed Captain Huang’s arm.

“What are you doing? I’m a lawyer! How can you arrest someone so casually? My wife doesn’t even know about my relationship with Zhang Miaomiao. If you need clarification, I’ll go with you.”

Zhou Hai looked at the agitated Liu Dong and the confused Mrs. Liu, raising his hand to stop the chaos. He took out the evidence bag and held it in front of Liu Dong.

“Normally I wouldn’t need to explain, but since you want evidence, let’s go through it.”

“This was found in the tea room upstairs—a packet of pediatric amoxicillin granules. I believe it’s your son’s medication. I remember you mentioned in the office yesterday that your son had just recovered from a cold.”

“I think we can definitely extract your wife’s fingerprints from this.”

Liu Dong sneered, spreading his hands.

“Are you so desperate to solve the case that you’ve lost your mind? What kind of evidence is this? What a joke. My son is sick, my wife takes care of him. Of course her fingerprints are on the medicine packets. Whose else would they be?”

Zhou Hai remained calm and turned to Liu Dong’s wife. Her fingers tightened around her coat, knuckles pale, but she still nodded slightly.

“Yes, I was responsible for giving my child medicine.”

Zhou Hai handed the evidence bag to Xu Biao, removed his mask and gloves. The room fell into complete silence as everyone watched him.

“Mr. Liu didn’t tell the truth. Yesterday morning, the deceased Zhang Miaomiao came to your house and had sexual intercourse with you. However, she left before 7:30 a.m., correct?”

Liu Dong didn’t respond, but his tense expression said everything. He wanted to grab his wife and explain, but restrained himself due to the presence of others.

Zhou Hai stared at him, waiting for an answer.

“Is that right?”
