Next, Gu Jingxi and Yu Chuan, master and servant, watched as Lord Wei slowly took off his clothes one by one, revealing his fair yet somewhat plump body.
Seeing this, Yu Chuan felt it was hard to look directly. Especially when he saw Lord Wei’s protruding belly, he felt that he really didn’t match his fairy-like wife at all. But when he thought about how both husband and wife were a bit crazy in the head, he suddenly felt that they were perfectly matched.
Gu Jingxi, however, remained expressionless. His gaze was fixed on the object hanging around Lord Wei’s neck.
It was a key.
Although he didn’t know what it was used for, the fact that Lord Wei treated it like a treasure and kept it on him at all times—even while bathing—meant it was clearly very important.
Lowering his voice, Gu Jingxi asked, “Yu Chuan, did you see the key hanging around his neck?”
Hearing this, Yu Chuan looked over and indeed saw it. He asked back, “I saw it. What about it?”
Gu Jingxi instructed, “Find a chance to secretly take it without anyone noticing.”
Steal it?
Yu Chuan looked at his master in surprise. He hadn’t expected such an upright gentleman to order him to steal something—especially someone else’s key.
Their gazes met for a moment. Gu Jingxi said calmly, “We are respectable people. We definitely won’t do things like stealing. Just make an imprint of it and produce an identical key.”
Yu Chuan was speechless. “…”
Making a mold of someone else’s key and forging one didn’t seem like something respectable people would do either.
But then he remembered how his master had once told him to bring food to befriend someone else’s dog and use it to gather information.
Compared to that, secretly making a mold of a key was nothing.
At least he wasn’t being asked to flirt with Lord Wei. That would have been terrifying.
Yu Chuan replied, “Rest assured, my lord. I won’t fail you.”
Gu Jingxi nodded slightly. “Be careful. Don’t alert him.”
After finishing his bath, Lord Wei returned to the room and saw only Mei Qingyun sitting at the dressing table, combing her hair.
He walked over and smiled. “My dear, there’s no need to be so depressed. Gu Jingxi hasn’t left yet. You’ll still have a chance to see him again. But I heard he’s seriously ill. A useless man is useless—bad in that regard and weak in body too. Getting a high fever in this heat and falling unconscious.”
Mei Qingyun paused and suddenly turned to him. “What did you say? He’s sick?”
Lord Wei smiled. “Yes. I’m planning to visit him tomorrow. Will you come with me?”
She sneered. “Since when are you so kind-hearted?”
“If you don’t believe me, forget it.” He smiled indifferently, then pinched her chin. “If you want to go with me tomorrow, you’d better perform well tonight.”
Mei Qingyun slapped his hand away and snorted coldly. She had no intention of flattering him.
But Lord Wei didn’t allow her to refuse. He picked her up and carried her to the bed despite her resistance.
Seeing her staring blankly at the canopy, Lord Wei grew irritated and became even rougher. Afterward, he gritted his teeth and said, “Mei Qingyun, have you no shame? Thinking about him while you’re with me? Open your eyes and see clearly—it’s me, Wei Heng, with you now, not that useless Gu Jingxi!”
She came back to her senses, curled her lips into a mocking smile, and said, “You’re going tomorrow just to see if he’s really sick, aren’t you? Wei Heng, so you can be afraid too.”
His expression changed. “We’re husband and wife. If something happens to me, do you think you’ll be spared? You’d better pray your old lover recovers quickly and leaves the capital.”
“Maybe I want to die together with you.” A flash of cruelty passed through her eyes. She stroked his neck and said coldly, “Wei Heng, I’m tired of living.”
His face darkened further. “Watch your mouth. Otherwise, I won’t mind becoming a widower.”
She smiled indifferently. “Then do it. Do it now. Don’t give me another chance to speak, or you’ll regret it.”
“You really think I wouldn’t dare kill you?”
He reached out and strangled her, tightening his grip. Even when she struggled to breathe, she didn’t resist—she just looked at him quietly. For a moment, he truly wanted to kill her.
After letting go, she laughed while coughing. When she finally caught her breath, she said, “Wei Heng, you’re really a coward.”
He sneered. “Letting you die so easily would be too good for you. Living in torment is harder. Tomorrow, I’ll take you to see your unattainable old lover.”
On the other side, Yu Chuan and Gu Jingxi sat on the roof, listening to the couple argue.
Gu Jingxi had only heard about it from Yu Chuan before. Now that he heard it himself, he felt deeply annoyed. He and A-Yao were clearly devoted to each other. This couple had seen it too—so why did they still bring him up?
Finding it pointless to listen further, he left. Yu Chuan followed.
After leaving the courtyard, Yu Chuan said, “My lord, from their conversation, Madam Wei seems to know something. Tomorrow she’s coming with Lord Wei to see you. Should we let Madam talk to her and try to get some information? She seems happy to see Lord Wei get into trouble.”
Gu Jingxi refused. “No.”
“Don’t you trust Madam’s abilities?” Yu Chuan asked.
“It’s not that,” Gu Jingxi replied. “I don’t believe Madam Wei would truly betray him. They may quarrel, but husband and wife are one. If he falls, she falls too. Probing rashly would alert them.”
Yu Chuan nodded.
Gu Jingxi added, “Find a chance to copy that key as soon as possible.”
Yu Chuan frowned. “But even if we make an identical key, we won’t know which lock it opens—unless we see him use it.”
Gu Jingxi glanced at him calmly. “Then try every lock in the Wei residence. Cast a wide net and you’ll catch fish eventually. If you don’t cast it, do you expect the fish to jump into the pot?”
Yu Chuan suddenly understood. “My lord is wise.”
“Enough flattery,” Gu Jingxi said lightly. “You’ve watched Wei Heng for so long. Didn’t you notice the key?”
Yu Chuan shook his head honestly, then hurriedly explained, “My lord, I don’t have a habit of peeping at people bathing. When he’s undressed, I only listen, not look.”
Gu Jingxi asked quietly, “So you’re saying I enjoy peeping?”
Yu Chuan waved his hands frantically. “No, no! That’s not what I meant! My lord is just observant—that’s why you noticed what others wouldn’t.”
