After all the exertion, it was already late at night.
Meng Jinyao was utterly exhausted, feeling as if her body no longer belonged to her. Her mouth was slightly open as she panted, like a stranded fish greedily gasping for air.
Gu Jingxi looked at the person in his arms, his face flushed, his eyes misted with moisture, his gaze sultry and inviting.
The sight stirred desire in him.
Gu Jingxi watched, heart restless, and suddenly felt another impulse—but he didn’t act further. He took a deep breath, suppressing the rising agitation within him.
If he continued, he would truly become a beast.
After a long while, Meng Jinyao finally calmed down. She had broken out in sweat, her body sticky and fatigued, and she didn’t even want to move, let alone fetch water and take a bath.
She tilted her head to look at the man holding her. Seeing him gazing at her with both tenderness and concern, she silently pinched his waist.
Gu Jingxi let out a soft “hiss,” caught off guard. Bewildered, he asked, “Jinyao, why are you pinching me?”
Meng Jinyao shook her head gently. “Nothing. I just want to make sure I’m not dreaming. If it hurts, then it’s not a dream.”
Her husband had suffered from a hidden illness for over a decade. Then one day, he consummated their marriage and told her he was cured. It felt like a dream. Even though it had happened three times, it still felt a little unreal to her.
Originally, she had accepted her husband’s condition and didn’t have high expectations for marital intimacy. Sometimes he would still find other ways to satisfy himself. She had felt that this wasn’t much different from a normal couple—it just didn’t result in pregnancy.
Now, the outcome was an unexpected joy: they could have a child of their own, and he wouldn’t be judged by others behind their backs. Once they had a child, it would completely silence those people.
Gu Jingxi, pinched by her and hearing her explanation, could only helplessly smile. “So you pinch your husband, huh?”
Meng Jinyao straightened her back, defending herself: “But if I pinch myself, it’s me who feels the pain.”
Hearing this, Gu Jingxi was momentarily stunned, then smiled and said, “Then go ahead and pinch your husband.”
Meng Jinyao rubbed the spot she had just pinched, then asked, “Husband, when did your body get better?”
Gu Jingxi replied, “On the boat.”
That old, eccentric imperial doctor actually had a method that worked. The book he gave him had been helpful. After trying it, the treatment period was shortened.
Meng Jinyao recalled how unrestrained he had been on the boat—tormenting her a few times. Sometimes they would count stars by the window; sometimes he would pin her against the door, with voices outside able to hear.
When this man went wild, he could truly wear her out until she cried.
Now she seemed to understand: on the boat, the bed had probably been too small to fully carry out everything, so he had resorted to other means to “torment” her.
Gu Jingxi stroked her cheek and kissed her lips. His gaze deepened, voice husky: “Jinyao, not long ago you said you gave in to me by the window in the attic too?”
Meng Jinyao: “???”
She asked in confusion, “Are you really Gu Jingxi, or some rogue playboy?”
Gu Jingxi chuckled softly. “We’re together every day. Don’t you know it’s me?”
Meng Jinyao glared at him. “You weren’t like this before. Before, when you saw me in thin sleepwear, you didn’t dare look at me. Now, you dare treat me like this.”
“Men are rarely truly serious,” he said with a faint smile.
Gu Jingxi leaned down to kiss her cheek again, seemingly never satisfied. Seeing her glaring at him, he stopped teasing and said: “If you are both my beloved and my wife, behaving like a monk—no looking, no touching, no hearing—is abnormal. Either it’s impotence, or feigned indifference, playing a role without wanting to spend energy in intimacy.”
Meng Jinyao recalled how even when her husband’s body was weak, he still loved being close to her: holding her, hugging her, and telling her stories through case studies.
Gu Jingxi said, “Jinyao, let’s take a bath.”
He first dressed himself, then helped Meng Jinyao put on clothes, and went to instruct the maid to prepare water while tidying the bed.
Meng Jinyao glanced at the bed. Seeing the disarray, the creased thin quilt, and traces of blood—evidence of what had just happened—she blushed at the memory.
When Qingqiu entered, seeing her mistress bashfully being carried to the bath by the marquis, she paused for a moment but didn’t think too much of it.
She had heard some noises from outside and knew what had happened. Though the marquis and mistress couldn’t fully consummate before, there was still some intimacy.
Qingqiu stepped forward, preparing to tidy the bedding. Seeing the blood, she assumed her mistress had her period, quickly prepared the menstrual supplies, and tidied up.
In the bathroom: Meng Jinyao had always been curious about her husband’s body. Now that she saw it, the upper half was aesthetically pleasing, but seeing the lower half, she immediately lost interest.
The naughty thing had bullied her—and it still hurt.
Gu Jingxi saw his wife’s undisguised disgust and was struck once again, questioning life.
No man wants his wife to look at his body and show disdain—it makes him feel she’s dissatisfied.
He glanced down silently.
Clearly, it wasn’t small.
It was actually quite impressive.
Meng Jinyao noticed his dejected expression and softly asked, “Husband, what’s wrong?”
Gu Jingxi said faintly, “You’re dissatisfied with your husband.”
Meng Jinyao was confused: “?”
Dissatisfied? Had she ever said she was dissatisfied?
She had always liked him, still felt amazed by his face every day, and sometimes thought how lucky she was to have such a handsome man.
Well, no matter—first, soothe him. Men could be delicate and needed comforting too.
She took the initiative to hug him and softly coaxed, “Husband, don’t overthink. You’re so good-looking, just looking at you is pleasing to the eye. How could I be dissatisfied?”
Gu Jingxi: “……”
She meant he looked impressive but was useless. A “pillow with embroidery.”
To avoid offense, compliments are often like this.
For example: if a child is mischievous, you praise them as lively and adorable; if a girl is ugly, you praise her for being kind; if a man looks fierce, you praise him as tall and heroic.
Seeing him remain silent, Meng Jinyao asked again, “Husband, what’s wrong?”
Gu Jingxi said softly, “Jinyao, your husband is not small.”
Meng Jinyao didn’t understand what he meant, but went along and nodded: “Yes, yes, husband really is not small.”
Gu Jingxi: “……”
So perfunctory—it was clearly insincere.
