The next morning.

Zhou Yun saw the Madam storm out of the guest room, with Chan’er and Qingqiu following closely behind. Puzzled, he curiously asked, “Your Lordship, what’s the matter with Madam?”

Gu Jingxi said lightly, “She’s fine.”

Zhou Yun, thinking it over, guessed, “Your Lordship, did you perhaps quarrel with Madam?”

Gu Jingxi cast him a glance. “No, don’t speculate.”

But Zhou Yun felt he was hiding something and couldn’t help advising, “Your Lordship, Madam is young; it’s only natural for her to be a little childish. You should just humor her. Why argue with her?”

Gu Jingxi’s expression faltered for a moment, then he smiled. “Zhou Yun, whose side are you on exactly? Who are you defending?”

Zhou Yun replied respectfully, “I serve Your Lordship, so naturally I speak for you, out of concern. Think about it: if Madam stays upset and sickens herself in a fit of sulking, won’t Your Lordship suffer too? In my humble opinion, it would be best if Your Lordship first appeased Madam.”

“Do I need your reminder for that?”

With that, Gu Jingxi strode toward the deck.

Seeing this, Zhou Yun smiled to himself, quietly pleased. Over the past year, he had observed how devotedly the Marquis treated Madam—pampering her like a small deity in his palm. It was clear Gu Jingxi had developed feelings for her. After all these years, the Marquis finally had a beloved, and Zhou Yun hoped for harmony between them.

When Gu Jingxi stepped out of the cabin onto the deck, he saw the three of them—master and servants—laughing together, and he walked toward them.

Meng Jinyao saw him and froze, turning her head away, unwilling to look at him. Thinking about his behavior the night before made her angry.

Qingqiu and Chan’er noticed and fell silent, puzzled. Yesterday, the Marquis and Madam seemed perfectly fine—how could they suddenly be at odds today?

Gu Jingxi waved his hand, signaling the maid to step back.

Qingqiu and Chan’er exchanged a glance and tactfully withdrew. Seeing this, Meng Jinyao also stepped back, clearly not wanting to interact with him.

Gu Jingxi hurriedly reached out and grabbed her wrist, stepping forward to stop her from leaving. When she looked up at him, glaring in displeasure, he immediately apologized, sincerity in his voice: “A-Yao, your husband was wrong. Please forgive me this time, alright?”

At that moment, two other passengers happened to be passing by for some fresh air. They overheard the words and instinctively stopped to watch, surprised. Seeing such a beautiful couple, they looked like a pair of celestial lovers, yet even they had quarrels.

Meng Jinyao, still annoyed with him, focused entirely on him and didn’t notice the spectators. Seeing him apologize so earnestly, she thought of his vile behavior last night and snorted sarcastically, “What wrong could my husband have?”

Gu Jingxi glanced at the onlookers and asked, “A-Yao, are you sure you want me to say it here?”

Meng Jinyao instinctively followed his gaze and saw two men in their twenties standing nearby. Fuming, she glared at Gu Jingxi and said fiercely, “We’ll talk about it back home!”

With that, she dragged Gu Jingxi along.

Gu Jingxi didn’t resist and let her pull him back.

The two men, watching, were dumbfounded. They hadn’t expected the delicate young lady to have such a fiery temper. She was fierce, while the man looked gentle and strong, yet in reality, he was henpecked, unable to stand firm in front of his wife.

One whispered, “My wife may be a little plain, but she’s gentle and caring, obedient to me in everything. If I had a wife who dared to show me a face like that, no matter how beautiful, I couldn’t handle it.”

The other scoffed, “Sounds like sour grapes to me. If you got a beauty like this, you’d worship her every move—even licking her foot-washing water. You’d consider a slap love, a scolding care, let alone a frown.”

The first feigned disgust. “Gross! Don’t drag me into your fantasies.”

“If I could have such a beauty, being a little henpecked wouldn’t matter.”

“…Useless!”

Meanwhile, back in the guest room, Meng Jinyao saw the window and instinctively looked away, unable to meet it with her eyes, and her anger rose again.

Gu Jingxi held his fuming young wife in his arms and gently soothed her: “A-Yao, calm down. Your husband was wrong. I shouldn’t have bullied you by the window. I won’t do it again. Will you forgive me this time?”

“You still mention it? Don’t bring this up again!”

Meng Jinyao’s face flushed, unsure whether from anger or embarrassment.

She had always believed her husband to be a gentleman, incapable of overstepping. But now she realized he could be quite reckless—especially last night, when he had pinned her by the window. The cabin’s thin walls made her afraid someone would overhear, so she held back any sounds.

When she had chosen him, it was partly for his status and partly because of his incapacity—he wouldn’t take concubines. She hadn’t expected someone with such a condition could be so daring… using so many tricks that she couldn’t defend herself.

Gu Jingxi looked innocent. “Didn’t you tell me to wait until we got back?”

Meng Jinyao fumed: “…You scoundrel!”

Gu Jingxi nodded repeatedly in apology: “Yes, I’m a scoundrel. I shouldn’t have bullied you. Don’t get upset, don’t stoop to the level of a scoundrel.”

Meng Jinyao snorted lightly and ignored him.

Gu Jingxi continued soothing his young wife gently, his gaze drifting toward the bed. The sight by the window had been stimulating, as the imperial physician had warned. Earlier, he had felt a fire burning within, but last night he had reacted—though he had stopped, knowing the cabin was not the right place. Their first night together shouldn’t have been in the small ship cabin; it was unfair to A-Yao. When they returned home, he would make up for the wedding night missed last year, meanwhile continuing his medication to stabilize himself.

Seeing him glance toward the bed again, Meng Jinyao’s face flushed once more. She blocked his view with her hand, glaring in embarrassment and annoyance: “You’re still looking there? Are you thinking about last night’s misdeeds? Gu Jingxi, I’m telling you, if you act like that again tonight, I won’t speak to you anymore.”

Gu Jingxi cleared his throat twice and calmly defended himself: “A-Yao, you misunderstood. I was just checking the weather outside.”

Meng Jinyao didn’t believe his nonsense. She scowled and asked, exasperated, “So, are you done looking or not?”

Gu Jingxi replied, “Done. The weather’s quite good.”

Meng Jinyao: “….”
