RPS – Chapter 2 Dreams and Reality

Reborn Into a Primitive Society to Raise Babies 7 min read 2 of 98 240

Li Feng thought he was dreaming. In the dream, he was watching a movie—a movie about someone else’s life.

Only after he woke up did he realize that everything in the dream wasn’t a dream at all. It was actually the memory of the body he now inhabited.

He remembered being struck by lightning. Then his stomach started hurting terribly, and he fainted again. After that, he remembered nothing.

The first thing he saw when he opened his eyes wasn’t a sterile white hospital, but the dark ceiling of a cave. Looking around, he realized he was in the home of the man from the dream. In his arms was a soft, tiny, thin baby that looked like a little monkey.

If he didn’t know that the people here had already evolved from apes to humans, he really would have thought this was a monkey. The baby was simply… not cute.

He had never seen a newborn before. He had always imagined babies to be fair and chubby like little buns. That’s why he thought this baby was ugly. In truth, most newborns looked like this—red and wrinkled, with closed eyes.

Just as he tried to sit up, someone entered the cave. It was the man from the dream. Li! When he first learned the name, he found it strange. One was named Li, the other Feng—together, it spelled Li Feng, his own name!

The man was naked except for an animal skin wrapped around his waist. His hair was loose and untamed. The cave was dim, making it hard to see the man’s face clearly. But he could tell this was a very masculine man. The man’s face, as seen in the dream, had distinct features, reminiscent of Europeans—except with black hair and black eyes.

Li Feng suddenly felt a breeze before being pulled tightly into a hug. The man cried out, “Feng, Feng…” and squeezed him so hard he could barely breathe. He pushed the man away with all his might and gasped for air.

He really almost passed out.

The memory from the dream was simple but clear: he had transmigrated into a primitive society, one that still used stone tools. “Feng” had belonged to another tribe, but during a tribal migration, he was abandoned by his people due to sickness and weakness. They thought he was going to die and left him to await death.

Back then, when people died, they weren’t buried or burned—they were just left where they fell. It was then that Li’s tribe, also searching for a new home, found him and saved him. He didn’t die. After being rescued by Li, and with no women around Li’s age in the tribe, Feng ended up with him.

Initially, they thought males couldn’t bear children. But somehow, Feng got pregnant. They didn’t realize it until the birth was near. But Feng was so weak that he died before the baby was born. At that moment, Li Feng—who had just been struck by lightning—crossed over into Feng’s body, and in the nick of time, pushed out the baby.

The memory ended there, but Li Feng now understood his situation. He wished he could be struck by lightning again. What kind of insane situation was this? Transmigrating was one thing, but rebirth and possessing a corpse? Fine. But why was he, a man, giving birth to a child?

He had been a 24-year-old virgin who had never even been in a relationship. Now, not only had he transmigrated to a primitive world, but he had even given birth to a child with a man. He was struggling to accept this.

But like it or not, the facts were inescapable. Even if he resisted with all his might, he couldn’t undo what had happened. And since he didn’t have the guts to kill himself, he was forced to accept this cruel reality.

One thing was certain, though: no matter what, he would never sleep with that man again. What had happened before wasn’t up to him, but from now on—absolutely not!

Primitive society? Fine. Back when transmigration novels and dramas were popular, his coworkers once asked: If you could transmigrate, where would you want to go? The women all wanted to go to prosperous dynasties to marry wealthy, powerful men. The men wanted to enter chaotic times with knowledge of future history and become heroes. He hadn’t joined the conversation, but when pressured, he blurted out: I want to go to primitive society!

His coworkers were shocked. “Why?” they asked.

He had answered confidently: Primitive society is so backward, I’d have room to shine! I’ll lead them straight into socialism!

Now, thinking back, Li Feng just wanted to slap himself. Why on earth did he say primitive society? Well, here he was now. Thanks a lot, heavens. If you’re going to be so “generous,” then why don’t I ever win the lottery?

“Feng, how are you feeling?” Li gently touched Feng’s messy hair. Feng had died, but miraculously come back to life—thank the heavens! And even better, he’d given birth to a child. A boy!

“Uh… I’m fine,” Li Feng said awkwardly, slapping away Li’s hand.

“Alright. You should rest. We caught a few pigs today. Everyone got a share. I’ll roast some for you.” Li raised the piece of meat in his hand and started a fire at the cave entrance.

Li Feng was surprised—they already knew how to preserve fire! He used charcoal from before, placed dry grass on top, and blew on it. So they weren’t that primitive. At least they weren’t gnawing on raw meat.

While Li Feng was zoning out, a loud baby’s cry rang out. It was the little monkey. Li looked toward the grass bed in the cave and saw Feng picking up the baby.

Li Feng was troubled. The child may have been born from this body, but this was still a male body—it couldn’t produce milk. How was he supposed to feed the baby? There was no formula, no cow’s milk, no goat milk here.

There was no concept of postpartum recovery in this society, and Li Feng himself had none either. He figured that even if this body gave birth, he was still a man. He had all the male features, after all. So he casually lifted the animal skin and sat up, looking around the cave to see if there were any fruits he could feed the baby.

The moment he stood up, he was full of despair. He wasn’t wearing anything. Not even an animal skin. In a panic, he quickly grabbed one and wrapped it around his waist. This soul transmigration was really frustrating—he didn’t even have underwear! It felt so awkward to be exposed like this. There was no helping it for now, but he made a vow: his first mission was to make some underwear! Even if it was just crude animal-skin briefs—it would be better than this breezy skirt-like thing. Everyone dressed like this here, but as a modern man, it seriously made him feel unsafe.

The cave wasn’t big—maybe 70 to 80 square meters. Li Feng, baby in arms, wandered around looking for food. Li looked like he wanted to say something, but in the end remained silent, turning back to roasting meat. He couldn’t help but feel that Feng had changed—something about him was different. But he couldn’t quite say what. Eventually, he chalked it up to childbirth.

Li Feng found a fruit in a stone basin in the corner of the cave. It looked like a mango, though rounder. The skin was similar, and the smell was almost the same. He recognized it from Feng’s memories—it was edible. There wasn’t much flesh inside, but it was juicy. Perfect for feeding a baby. There were several of them, clearly prepared in advance—likely for the baby.

He gently tore open the skin with his fingernail and held it near the baby’s mouth. The baby latched on immediately and began to suck eagerly. Clearly, the baby liked it—or maybe he was just too hungry to be picky.

Li Feng tasted it himself—it was quite delicious. Sweet, with a fragrant, fruity aroma. It was somewhat like coconut—plenty of juice and a bit of soft flesh. One fist-sized fruit was mostly liquid inside. For a newborn, it was more than enough. Though he wasn’t sure if fruit alone might cause the baby to get cold or have diarrhea… but there was no other option. Nothing else could be fed to the baby right now.

He wrapped the baby tightly in animal skin and placed a warm hand on the little belly, gently rubbing to help digestion and soothe him to sleep. Sure enough, not long after being fed, the little baby fell asleep peacefully.
