“No, I don’t agree. The child is almost two months old. How can we terminate it?”
Shen Sanleng didn’t even glance at Yuan Qin. He looked at Gu Yuhua with a serious expression and said that this patient was indeed pregnant—but it was an ectopic pregnancy.
“If the fallopian tube ruptures, there would inevitably be massive bleeding. At that point, how would you treat it? The best approach is to surgically remove the embryo; otherwise, if it’s not completely expelled, it could still affect the patient’s health.”
Jiang Meili’s eyes widened. She suddenly understood what Shen doctor meant by “affecting her health.” A blocked fallopian tube would mean she might never have children again. In worse cases, it could get inflamed and even have to be removed.
“I agree, but I want Shen Ying to be my attending doctor. If not, I’d like my sister-in-law to do it.”
“You’re crazy…”
Yuan Qin rushed forward and covered Jiang Meili’s mouth. It’s a child! How could you just say no? Moreover, she had secretly checked, and it was a boy.
But this time, Jiang Meili was resolute. Her gaze at Yuan Qin was sharp: “Mom, do you still love me? Do you still want me to live?”
“Fool, what are you saying? You are my own daughter, whom I carried and gave birth to for ten months. How could I possibly harm you?”
“But I have an ectopic pregnancy. Do you know what that means? The embryo is implanted in the fallopian tube. As it grows, it can rupture the tube. If that happens, I could die from massive bleeding.”
Yuan Qin’s face instantly turned pale. Her eyes went blank as she looked at Shen Sanleng, then at Shen Ying, and finally fixed on Director Gu’s face.
Gu Yuhua was initially a bit annoyed. What did it mean that she “only wants Shen Ying” as her attending doctor, or that her sister-in-law would also do? Was she belittling the other doctors in his hospital?
But when he saw Yuan Qin’s helpless expression, his mind cleared a bit. Indeed, the two of them had immediately diagnosed the cause, preventing a potential medical accident.
Realizing this, Gu Yuhua put aside all his resentment. Then he thought of something: Jiang Meili’s man is Li Bing, and Li Bing’s sister-in-law is Cheng Qiao.
He remembered having some past friction with Cheng Qiao. He had hoped Cheng Qiao would contribute her prescription for the benefit of the public, but her husband had scolded him sharply, each word piercing him to the core.
“Comrade Jiang, the sister-in-law you mentioned is Cheng Qiao, right? I think she’s still studying at the Chinese medicine university and probably hasn’t obtained her medical license yet.”
Li Bing finally relaxed from the awkwardness, sitting next to Jiang Meili. He looked at her tenderly: “Wife, the sister-in-law isn’t qualified to practice yet. Let’s not trouble her. Let’s have Doctor Shen handle it.”
Li Bing tactfully said “Doctor Shen,” without specifying which Shen. Shen Sanleng shot him a sidelong glance, helpless. If this guy weren’t Cheng Qiao’s brother-in-law, he would have left already.
“Director Gu, get paper and pen. I’ll write a prescription and try it. If we can avoid surgery, that’s best.”
Jiang Meili and Li Bing exchanged a glance. Seeing the mischievous glint in Li Bing’s eyes, they both smiled wryly. They knew this was all being done out of consideration for Cheng Qiao, but unfortunately, Yuan Qin still didn’t understand.
True to form, Shen Sanleng wrote a prescription. Half an hour later, Jiang Meili felt severe abdominal pain, as if something inside was dropping.
Shen Sanleng checked her pulse again and wrote a new prescription. Once the medicine was prepared and warm, it was delivered to the ward. Jiang Meili’s embryo had been expelled.
Seeing Jiang Meili weak, Shen Ying personally supported her and fed her the medicine. Once the bowl was swallowed, her whole abdomen felt warm; her previously cold, yang-deficient body gradually warmed.
“Drink another bowl tomorrow morning. Then my grandfather will check your pulse again. Rest assured and sleep well.”
Director Gu stayed in the ward the whole time, watching Shen Ying personally prepare and administer the medicine. In the end, he didn’t even see the prescription; the leftover herbs were cleaned up completely.
He realized—another secret formula, just like Cheng Qiao’s. The effects were astonishing. If their hospital could use it, he, as director, would surely rise to fame.
Alas, this wish was impossible. No one would foolishly hand over such a rare treasure, especially a secret medicine that could cure diseases.
“Doctor Shen, look—”
“Director Gu, I follow my grandfather’s methods. Besides, I’m not a doctor here.”
“Oh, understood. Thank you for your hard work this time. Please thank your grandfather for me.”
Shen Ying smiled, tidied up the medicine bowls, and left. Yet her eyes showed disdain—this same pattern happened before with Cheng Qiao, and now with their family.
The next morning, Shen Ying prepared the medicine again and personally gave it to Jiang Meili. She then asked Yuan Qin to make soft, plain white porridge and advised keeping her diet light for the next two days.
Yuan Qin was extremely worried. The child was gone, and his daughter seemed weakened. Beyond proper nutrition and rest, there was nothing else he could do.
“Thank you, Doctor Shen. You’re young, but very capable. I’ll go get some food for Meili.”
Once Yuan Qin left, Shen Ying checked Jiang Meili’s pulse again. It was much stronger than yesterday, and she finally relaxed. Technically, her grandfather’s intervention wasn’t even needed now, but she was Cheng Qiao’s sister-in-law.
“Comrade Jiang Meili, I need to tell you something… You shouldn’t have intercourse for now, and you’re not fit to get pregnant. Recheck in half a year to see if your energy and blood have recovered.”
Jiang Meili nodded. That made sense. But in her heart, she was calm. Half a year wasn’t necessary, because Cheng Qiao had a medicine that could quickly restore the body.
Just like when Li Bing was injured, the local doctors were helpless, but after taking one pill from Cheng Qiao, he recovered a lot. So if she asked, Cheng Qiao would likely provide it.
Jiang Meili still didn’t know that the pill had saved her husband’s life, not just a general restorative medicine. Li Bing had never told her, to avoid anyone bothering Cheng Qiao.
Speaking of which, here came Cheng Qiao at the ward door. Seeing Shen Ying, she immediately understood. She raised the lunchbox in her hand:
“Hello, everyone. I made some medicinal porridge. Want some?”
“Yes.”
Jiang Meili nodded without hesitation. Shen Ying shook her head—she was strong and didn’t need the porridge, which was obviously made especially for Jiang Meili.
“You knew yesterday, didn’t you?”
Cheng Qiao glanced at Shen Ying, who nodded in silent understanding. Shen Ying smiled—she liked making friends with capable people.
