“Li Huan, I want to be discharged.”

Cheng Qiao heard that her mother-in-law had been knocked down by Fenqiu, and her heart tightened. That mother-in-law was usually timid, yet this time she actually went after Fenqiu for her sake. This gesture warmed Cheng Qiao’s heart.

“Qiao, it’s late today. Tomorrow I’ll ask Uncle Niu to come get you from the hospital.”

“Then you should quickly go check on mother and Lele. But you must promise me: don’t act impulsively; wait until I return, and we’ll handle everything together.”

Li Huan nodded. Qiu Min immediately made a decision: she would go home first to inform everyone, and tonight she would accompany Cheng Qiao. As for Skinny Monkey, he would definitely go with Li Huan back home.

Back at home, Li Huan first went to see his mother. She was lying in bed; when she fell, her back had hit a stone, leaving her slightly bruised. Li Le was applying medicine to her.

With tears in her eyes, Li Le told Li Huan that Fenqiu had been ferocious, even threatening her and her mother with a hoe, saying that if they caused more trouble, he would settle it with a single strike each.

Li Huan chuckled. Since marrying Cheng Qiao, he had suppressed all his bad habits—but now someone had dared to step over the line. If he didn’t handle this properly this time, he wouldn’t survive long in this village.

He first comforted Li Le, then took out the candies Cheng Qiao had given him and handed them to her, telling her to take good care of their mother. Then he entered a room and retrieved a homemade musket from deep inside a cabinet.

Skinny Monkey’s eyes widened as soon as he saw it. This musket could blow the head off a wild boar—its short-range power was not to be underestimated.

Li Huan then went to the backyard, dug at a spot with a hoe, and unearthed a tightly sealed wooden box. When he opened it, Skinny Monkey almost couldn’t breathe.

Inside was homemade explosives. Though it looked unimpressive, its blast could easily level a mud house.

“Brother Huan, this is too dangerous!”

“You know where Miao Qing’s house is, right? Get everyone out—that’s your task.”

Skinny Monkey immediately understood. Brother Huan was going to blow up their house. As long as no one got hurt, no one would interfere.

Li Huan’s mother saw her son leave quickly without saying a word and worried. Knowing her son’s temperament well, she quickly put on her coat, preparing to follow.

But their room had already been locked from the outside by Li Huan. She rushed to the window, only to find it blocked with a wooden stick—there was no way to open it.

“Lele, we need to find a way out, or your second brother will get into big trouble again.”

Li Le remained seated on the kang (heated bed), unmoving. Having studied with Cheng Qiao, she deeply understood that with her second sister-in-law by Li Huan’s side, he would never put her in danger.

Skinny Monkey took a hoe and went outside, splitting Miao Qing’s door with one swing. The loud noise made Miao Qing shrink back in fear. Since Li Huan’s mother and Li Le had come demanding compensation today, she knew things were about to get serious.

“Which bastard dares to smash my door? Are you crazy?”

Fenqiu came out with a hoe, blinking in surprise—who was this guy? He didn’t recognize him.

Auntie Daya and Miao Qing also ran out. Seeing Skinny Monkey, they immediately knew Li Huan was behind this and turned pale.

Miao Qing’s elder brothers, Da Gang and Er Gang, appeared next, each wielding a machete or kitchen knife, ready to fight to the death.

Skinny Monkey swallowed nervously. Now he completely understood why Li Huan was blowing up their house—preemptive strike. Otherwise, one man could never take on three.

Li Huan entered their kitchen, which connected to the woodshed. If it exploded, their grain and hard-earned firewood would be destroyed this winter.

Skinny Monkey was verbally sparring with Fenqiu and his two sons, but even their combined shouting couldn’t overpower him. His focus was on one person: Miao Qing.

“Twenty-year-old unmarried women must have some defect… could she be infertile, or had something happened to her that made her afraid to marry?”

“There’s a two-year-old beggar in the county town who looks like Miao Qing—could it be her child, lost again?”

The commotion drew nearby villagers. Initially, they came to watch, but as Skinny Monkey’s words grew wilder, they began to believe them. Even Fenqiu and his sons looked at Miao Qing with suspicion.

Miao Qing cried in anger. She dared not speak even basic words as a grown woman, let alone endure Skinny Monkey’s nakedly vulgar remarks.

Auntie Daya lost patience, took off her shoe, and swung it at Skinny Monkey, thinking, If I don’t break his mouth, I’m not a woman.

Skinny Monkey didn’t just stand there; he raised his hoe to meet it. Fenqiu and his sons jumped in to intervene.

“Boom!”

Seeing all three charging him, Skinny Monkey thought it was over and was about to run—but a massive explosion startled everyone. Flames shot into the sky—Fenqiu’s kitchen had exploded.

Fenqiu turned, eyes red with rage. That was his kitchen, filled with rice, flour, oil, and grain. Without thinking, he swung the hoe at Skinny Monkey’s head.

He only had one belief: You destroyed my food, now pay with your life. But when Li Huan held the musket in front of Skinny Monkey, aiming at him, Fenqiu’s mind cleared.

Villagers were horrified. This wasn’t a simple fight—it could turn deadly. They ran toward the village head’s house. Neighbors grabbed buckets to put out the fire.

Fenqiu clearly saw the murderous intent in Li Huan’s eyes. His arms went limp, and the hoe clattered to the ground. Da Gang and Er Gang stepped back, terrified.

“You thug, I’ll pay! Twenty bucks! Old yuan, go get the money!”

Auntie Daya finally regained composure. At this moment, everyone recalled the thug’s past deeds—this was a man who had fought wild boars alone without fear of death. How could they forget?

“Twenty yuan? Who pushed my mother? Step forward, and I’ll deal with you first!”

Fenqiu’s heart raced. People said he was unreasonable, but really, he just understood the villagers’ nature. As long as he was strong, no one could intimidate him. But if someone stronger and bolder appeared, he would just back down.

“Rascal, make it clear—how much are you paying?”
