At that moment, neither He Wen nor Su Ruo had the mind to keep their hands steady. After hastily picking up the medicine, they rushed off to find Duan Wei—none of them could feel at ease.

But when they reached the stairwell, there was no sign of Duan Wei.

“Where’s Weiwei?” He Wen asked instinctively.

“She wouldn’t have gone off on her own, right? Let me call her.” Su Ruo pulled out her phone and dialed Duan Wei’s number.

“She’s not answering. Where could she have gone?” Su Ruo frowned after ending the call.

“Let’s check downstairs.” He Wen’s heart skipped a beat—thinking about that certain couple from the third floor, could it be…?

They headed to the third floor but still couldn’t see any trace of Duan Wei. Just as they were about to go down further, they suddenly heard a commotion from one direction.

“That’s the restroom—what’s going on over there?” He Wen muttered, staring in that direction.

Just then, a nurse rushed past them, heading toward the same restroom. He Wen quickly grabbed her and asked, “What happened over there?”

The nurse recognized He Wen—she frequented the hospital—and paused briefly to reply, “Seems like a pregnant woman fell in the restroom. I heard she was pushed! Who could be so vicious, pushing a pregnant woman…”

She hurried off before finishing.

Pregnant? Pushed?

He Wen and Su Ruo exchanged a look, their hearts suddenly gripped by unease, and they quickly rushed toward the restroom.

Hopefully, it wasn’t Duan Wei.

When they arrived, a small crowd had already gathered. They pushed through the outer circle to get inside.

“Duan Wei, how could you be like this? Xiao Xun is pregnant, and you still pushed her? That’s just cruel!”

Those were the words they heard upon squeezing in. They looked up and saw Mo Qi holding a tearful woman in his arms. Her eyes were red, tears rolling down her cheeks, her expression full of grievance. Mo Qi was visibly angry, scolding the woman standing across from them.

That woman—was Duan Wei.

Duan Wei stood motionless, unmoved by Mo Qi’s furious accusations. She looked at the pair coldly, her clothes soaked through.

“Weiwei!” Su Ruo gasped and quickly went over. “What happened? Why are you wet?”

He Wen came over, her face dark. “Weiwei, what happened to your clothes?”

Duan Wei let out a cold laugh. “What happened? Of course it was thanks to those two.”

Su Ruo’s anger instantly flared. Duan Wei’s chest was drenched—it was obvious someone had done it on purpose. This was pure bullying.

No one expected what happened next.

He Wen suddenly lifted a bucket sitting near the restroom entrance—and with a loud splash, dumped it right on Mo Qi and his wife.

Mo Qi reacted quickly, turning to shield the woman in his arms. He took the brunt of it, soaked from head to toe.

A gasp went up from the onlookers—clearly none of them had seen that coming.

Even Su Ruo and Duan Wei were stunned.

“He Wen! What the hell are you doing? That’s going too far!” Mo Qi exploded with rage, dripping wet.

“Mo Qi, let me tell you something. Don’t think just because Weiwei liked you that I couldn’t do anything. Piss me off, and I’ll make sure you regret it!” He Wen’s voice was sharp, each word squeezed out between gritted teeth—she was furious.

The water in the bucket clearly wasn’t clean—slightly dark, probably mop water or something worse. Mo Qi’s white shirt was now soaked and stained.

He Wen changed her tone and kept cursing, “I’m the one going too far? Don’t spout nonsense with your eyes wide open. Think about all these years—how Weiwei treated you. Don’t you dare act like you’re some decent human being.”

Mo Qi had never been scolded so harshly. For a moment, he was completely at a loss, face flushed with embarrassment and anger.

“Weiwei, did they do anything else to you?” He Wen asked Duan Wei.

“We didn’t! She’s the one who went too far—”

Just as Duan Wei opened her mouth, a woman’s shaky voice cut in, sounding deeply aggrieved.

“You shut up! Who the hell are you to speak here?” He Wen snapped, glaring fiercely.

The woman flinched, her eyes turning redder, tears falling like pearls from a broken string—looking pitiful and innocent.

“He Wen, you can’t just throw your weight around because your family’s powerful! What about reason and fairness?” Mo Qi couldn’t hold back.

“Hah! I am throwing my weight around. I’m not reasonable—what are you gonna do? Oh wait, I forgot—you’re that noble and bitter scholar who looks down on the world, aren’t you? Since I’m rich, why don’t you go earn as much as I do?”

He Wen looked ready to continue her verbal onslaught, but Duan Wei suddenly interrupted. “He Wen, let’s hear what they have to say. I want to know exactly how I’ve ‘gone too far’.” Her tone was frosty, a cold smile spreading on her face.

“Fine, go on then.” He Wen crossed her arms and moved to the middle, glaring at the woman in Mo Qi’s arms with a mocking expression.

Su Ruo was shocked by He Wen’s fury—she was like a firecracker—but at the same time, Su Ruo felt moved. Having a friend like this in life made it all worthwhile.

The woman trembled before slowly speaking, “When I went to the restroom, there was a basin of water on the sink. I accidentally spilled it on her. I apologized and said I’d pay for her clothes. But she got really angry and shoved me to the ground. I… I’m pregnant. The doctor just said today that the fetus is unstable… I’m so scared…”

Mo Qi chimed in, “Did you hear that? Xiao Xun never lies. Duan Wei, how could you be so vicious? All these years—I must’ve been blind…”

“Mo Qi, shut up! Blind?” Duan Wei looked like she’d been slapped, her face pale as she stepped back. Her voice trembled, turning shrill with pain. “We’ve known each other for how many years now? And you’re saying she never lies? So in your eyes, I’ve always been this vicious, scheming woman. Fine. You’re blind? I was the blind one! Mo Qi, you’re only worthy of someone like Zhao Nuanxun. From now on, I never knew you.” She shoved past the crowd and left, her steps clearly shaky.

That moment—Duan Wei’s heart was completely broken. After all the years by his side, she still couldn’t compare to Zhao Nuanxun, who had only been around for six years. And this was the end she got.

He Wen quickly followed, but not before warning, “You two better pray I don’t run into you again!”

Su Ruo lingered, looking at the two in front of her. She approached Zhao Nuanxun and sneered, “Little sister, not bad acting, but still needs work. Watch your step next time. Otherwise, I can’t guarantee some accidents won’t find their way to you. If you want to play tricks, make sure you know what kind of trash you are first.”

Zhao Nuanxun paled slightly, a flicker of panic in her eyes. “W-what are you saying? I don’t understand.”

“Hmph. I understand—that’s enough.” Su Ruo glanced at Mo Qi and smiled coldly. “And you—Mo Qi. In the past, Weiwei was blind and immature. But she’s back to her senses now. So you’d better not show your face around her again. Or else—you know, my family’s got a lot of power. And I’m a bit impulsive.”

She straightened, glanced around at the crowd, and smirked. “Alright, everyone—free drama’s over. Go home and watch your soap operas. What are you gawking at?” With that, she swept through the crowd and left, exuding authority.

Back in the restroom, only Mo Qi, Zhao Nuanxun, and a few nurses remained. The nurses were still confused. When they had rushed in, the pregnant woman didn’t appear in real danger—and then came He Wen and her scolding.

Everyone knew He Wen was the niece of the deputy director of the hospital—and that Director He doted on her. So none of them dared to intervene.

Zhao Nuanxun bit her lip, eyes flashing with smugness. Duan Wei, you’ll never take A Qi from me again.

“A Qi, let’s go. Don’t be angry—they’re always like this.” She tugged Mo Qi’s sleeve gently.

Mo Qi’s emotions were a mess—anger, hurt, confusion. Hearing Zhao Nuanxun, he snapped, “If you’re fine, then why make such a big scene? Let’s go home!”

Zhao Nuanxun stared at him, stunned. Was he blaming her? She had fallen! Didn’t he care? She was carrying his child!

Outside, Su Ruo called He Wen after not finding them.

“Where are you guys?”

“I see you—we’re coming.”

Duan Wei insisted on going to a bar. Su Ruo and He Wen didn’t stop her but persuaded her to go to a quieter lounge bar instead. They made sure she changed clothes first.

Su Ruo, needing to return to Zhengjia Hospital, didn’t drink—just ordered orange juice.

They didn’t ask Duan Wei for the full story. They simply sat and drank with her. Fortunately, He Wen could hold her liquor well.

“I didn’t think it would end like this. I thought his marriage to someone else would be the worst… but no. Ruo Ruo, you were right. I’m just pathetic—I deserve it!” Duan Wei, tipsy, laughed suddenly.

“I didn’t mean that seriously. Don’t be so upset—he’s not worth it.” Su Ruo felt a little guilty—she hadn’t actually said that.

“Yeah, Weiwei, don’t be sad. Scumbags and mistresses are a perfect match. You’ll find better.” He Wen also comforted her—watching Duan Wei’s heartbreak made them feel miserable too.

“I waited for you on the fourth floor, but when you didn’t show, I felt stifled. So I came down for air. That’s when Zhao Nuanxun found me—said she had something to say. And like an idiot, I followed her into the restroom. Once inside, she started bragging about how great her life was. I didn’t care, was just about to leave—when she splashed me with water. I hadn’t even retaliated, and she fell down yelling. Mo Qi came in and started screaming at me… Hah…”

Duan Wei laughed coldly and downed her drink in one gulp.

“I can’t believe I fell for her trap. But it worked—I’m finally done. Feels good to be free.”

Su Ruo didn’t try to stop her from drinking. Sometimes, the worst heartbreak needed a night of drowning.

He Wen was full of heartbreak and fury. Duan Wei had been a beloved princess growing up—but in love, she’d been hurt again and again. And now she had finally hit bottom.

“You two—don’t go after them anymore. From today on, I’m done with them. I’ll walk my own path. Let them enjoy their happy little life.”

“But—” He Wen protested.

“Let it go, He Wen. For people like that, it’s not worth it. Let her move on for real.” Su Ruo stopped her. Duan Wei had made up her mind—there was no need to interfere anymore. Love is a private matter.

Love is unpredictable. After reaching rock bottom, who knows what the next turn might bring?

It can’t stay miserable forever. (…)
