RMM – Chapter 69 The Bath Incident

Rebirth: A Military Marriage 8 min read 70 of 365 16

Aside from the initial period of confinement, Su Ruo was actually enjoying herself more and more.

Most people in the military unit were straightforward and candid, making communication refreshingly direct and humorous.

Among the seated leaders, a few were quite talkative—like Commissar Wang, who spoke mostly about Xi Yuechen in front of Su Ruo. Stories about him, told by others, sounded like gripping tales: full of ups and downs, captivating and dramatic. Su Ruo was completely drawn in. She hadn’t expected the man beside her to have such a glorious yet arduous past. Earning so many military merits couldn’t have been easy.

Xi Yuechen watched Su Ruo’s constantly shifting facial expressions with amusement. She believed even the most exaggerated parts. Seriously, how could it have been that thrilling and legendary? Wasn’t it just the sort of thing every soldier goes through?

With an engaging topic at hand, time flew by quickly. People in the mess hall gradually began to leave, and soon Su Ruo’s table stood up to say their goodbyes as well.

While walking, Su Ruo asked Xi Yuechen about the things she had heard earlier, only for him to laugh it off, saying, “They were just trying to entertain you. It wasn’t that dramatic.”

Su Ruo blinked, clearly not buying it. “Even if they exaggerated, it’s still definitely not as easy as you’re making it sound. Hmph.”

They walked quietly together. The military base at night was different from the noisy city or the silence of the countryside. Occasionally, they saw soldiers walking by and could faintly hear whistles and shouted commands.
“Commander, do you even train at night?”

“Mm. We train quite often at night.” Xi Yuechen slowed his pace to match Su Ruo’s smaller steps.

“That sounds exhausting. Isn’t it tiring?” Su Ruo asked in surprise.

“You get used to it.”

That simple response suddenly stirred a wave of sorrow in Su Ruo’s heart—it sounded so casual, but it carried a weight of hardship behind it.

She nodded and smiled politely to a passing group of young soldiers, some still with boyish faces, already worn into shape by discipline.

Turning her head, she looked at Xi Yuechen’s side profile under the lights. It appeared cold and chiseled, naturally exuding authority. A stranger would probably keep their distance upon seeing him.

Quickening her steps, she caught up to him to walk shoulder to shoulder. Xi Yuechen didn’t comment, just continued walking slowly and silently.

Their shadows, cast long under the dim streetlights, clung together tightly, giving the impression of two people quietly relying on each other.

They returned to the house around 9 p.m. Su Ruo sat on the bed watching Xi Yuechen tidy up her suitcase.

A few days later, the wounds on her palm began to scab over. The dense scabs looked horrifying and were terribly itchy. She didn’t dare scratch for fear of leaving scars.

Aside from the itching, the pain had faded. She could now feed herself, though slowly.

Xi Yuechen changed her bandages three times a day with utmost care, cautious not to hurt her even a little. Unlike how indifferent he was about his own injuries, he now forbade her from doing anything other than eating and getting dressed. He insisted she let the scabs fall off naturally to heal well.

Like this time—after applying medicine, he told her to sit while he packed her luggage himself.

Su Ruo sighed inwardly. She wasn’t sure whether to call him overbearing or overly meticulous. Her hand only looked scary—it wasn’t that bad. Did he have to ban her from even folding clothes?

Trying to distract herself from the itching, she stared at Xi Yuechen’s hands as he worked.

At this point, aside from bleeding on him during her period, Su Ruo felt she could probably face anything calmly. She watched as he took out her bras and panties, folded them, and neatly placed them in the wardrobe.

Since she couldn’t help, Su Ruo simply turned away and began inspecting the bedroom.

It wasn’t very big and didn’t have an ensuite bathroom. Apart from the wardrobe and bed, there wasn’t much furniture. By the window was a small tea table and chair. The curtains and bedding were all light blue, making the room feel stark and cold.

Totally Xi Yuechen’s aesthetic, Su Ruo thought, pursing her lips.

“Commander, is that room next door a study?”

There were a few books on the bedside table, but no signs of a workspace in the bedroom. Remembering the door next to this one, she asked.

Xi Yuechen, placing her pajamas on the bed, replied, “Mm.”

“Can I take a look?” she asked, curious.

“Don’t touch anything.” He didn’t even look back as he answered.

But Su Ruo knew that meant permission. She got up and headed to the door.
You told me not to touch anything, but you didn’t say I couldn’t look.

Pushing the door open, she clicked her tongue. If you called this a study, it was a true study.

Inside were a desk, chair, bookshelves, and a computer—and nothing else. No plants, not even a tiny potted succulent. It was as plain and dull as could be.

She couldn’t imagine how Xi Yuechen could stand staying here. If it were her, she’d go crazy in two days.

Breathing in the study’s sterile air, Su Ruo suddenly thought: once things calm down, maybe she could come here sometimes. It wasn’t far. She wondered what Xi Yuechen’s life was like when alone. Did he eat on time? He had a notoriously bad stomach, likely a result of his profession. The irregular routines of military life—of course that would take a toll.

“Ruo Ruo.”

Xi Yuechen’s voice drifted from the bedroom, breaking her train of thought. She replied and returned to the room.

“What is it?” Everything had been packed up. She didn’t even know where the suitcase had gone. The floor was clear except for her slippers.

“Bath. Then sleep,” he said flatly, glancing at her leaning in the doorway.

He didn’t sound like a husband at all. More like a dad—always fussing over everything.

Su Ruo grumbled inwardly but didn’t show it. She obediently entered the bedroom, picked up her slippers and pajamas, and headed into the bathroom. She didn’t lock the door—she knew Xi Yuechen wouldn’t let her bathe alone. With a scab on her palm, she’d temporarily lost her right to shower independently.

He’d already helped her wash so many times. One more wouldn’t make a difference. She was used to it. Still, wait till we go home—let’s see you try bossing me around then.

As Su Ruo silently complained, Xi Yuechen entered the bathroom with her pajamas in hand, already in slippers.

Under his calm gaze, Su Ruo turned around and started undressing. Why wasn’t she flustered anymore? Well, after being naked in front of him daily, even having him put her underwear on, what was left to be embarrassed about?

When she stood there fully bare, Xi Yuechen thought she looked like a lotus in clear water—radiant yet serene. He couldn’t help but breathe a little harder. He’d seen her body countless times, but never got used to it. Every inch of her skin and every curve seemed to tempt him.

Taking a deep breath, he began undressing himself, but stopped short of removing his underwear. Wearing just that, he walked over and turned on the water, getting ready to help her bathe.

Su Ruo adjusted her hair and, seeing the water running, raised her arms for him to start.

While he shampooed her hair, she leaned slightly forward, head directly facing his chest.

Suddenly, an image popped into her head. Tsk tsk, the posture wasn’t quite right, but this totally had that Rejoice shampoo commercial vibe. That scene was iconic—she’d remembered it for years.

Thinking back to when she first met Xi Yuechen, who could’ve guessed they’d end up like this? Naked together, and he was washing her hair! Su Ruo chuckled secretly, enjoying the gentle motion on her scalp.

Her gaze naturally dropped down to his chest and abs—and paused when she realized he was still wearing his underwear. Huh? He usually takes it all off. Why’s he wearing them this time?

Even as she wondered, her eyes stayed glued to that spot.

The black underwear tightly outlined his lower half. With his bronze skin and sculpted muscles, the sight was… dangerously hot.

She swallowed. That bulge—so… prominent. And that was with the fabric still on. How did he ever fit inside her? And was it just her, or did it seem bigger than usual today?

Xi Yuechen wasn’t exactly oblivious. With her blatantly staring at him, that area staying “normal” would’ve been the real miracle.

Sigh… He took another deep breath and kept lathering shampoo into her hair.

Su Ruo had no idea he’d noticed. She kept staring curiously. Honestly, even though they’d been physically intimate plenty of times, she’d never really examined his thing. Every time she saw it, she’d shyly look away like she’d been shocked.

But now, the urge to peek beneath that black fabric grew stronger. Still, an urge was one thing—actually doing it was another. She didn’t dare. She just squinted slightly and looked more closely—then suddenly spotted something…

A few coarse black hairs were peeking out from the edge of his underwear, lazily lying along the waistband. If she hadn’t looked closely, she wouldn’t have noticed.

At that moment, Su Ruo completely lost control. Like possessed, her hand shot out toward his crotch.

Xi Yuechen didn’t have time to react before she pinched two of those hairs—and gave them a light tug.

“Ugh—” Xi Yuechen grunted through clenched teeth. This woman…

Hearing his voice, Su Ruo snapped out of it. She jerked her hand back and instinctively stood upright. Even then, she couldn’t resist stealing another glance at those hairs sticking out beyond the underwear…

Curiosity really can kill a cat.
