RMM – Chapter 45 A Short Separation Makes the Dawn More Beautiful

Rebirth: A Military Marriage8 min read46 of 365

When they arrived at Jingyue Mingdu, Su Ruo was still asleep. Xi Yuechen didn’t wake her up and simply carried her upstairs in his arms.

Ren Wangze stood alone in the wind, completely dumbfounded. Strange things happened every year, but this year there seemed to be an extra lot of them. How come their regiment commander turned into a completely different person in front of his wife? The way he gently and carefully carried her just now—was that really their famously cold and ruthless commander?

Su Ruo didn’t know how long she had slept. When she groggily woke up, she realized she was already home. She had clearly fallen asleep in the car, but now she was obviously in her own bedroom… Did the commander carry her upstairs?

Touching her slightly hot cheeks, she slipped on the slippers by the bed and headed out. But wait—these slippers had always been kept by the entrance… Did the commander bring them in for her? Su Ruo bit her lip, eyes sparkling with joy.

As soon as she opened the door, a light fragrance wafted in. Su Ruo immediately knew—Xi Yuechen was cooking porridge. She rubbed her head and walked to the kitchen doorway, stopping to look at the tall figure leisurely tending the pot inside.

“Commander.”

Xi Yuechen had already heard her footsteps. Upon hearing her voice, he turned around, “Awake? Hungry?”

“Mm, I haven’t eaten all day.” Su Ruo answered with a smile, not the least bit shy.

“Wait a bit—porridge’s almost ready.”

Without waiting for a reply, Su Ruo turned around and went to the dining room, pulled out a chair, sat down, rested her chin on her hand at the table, and blinked up at Xi Yuechen, waiting.

A sudden sense of peaceful domestic bliss washed over her… Su Ruo smiled quietly to herself.

As compensation for today’s fright, even the dishes after the meal were washed by Xi Yuechen. She sat on the sofa, waiting for him to come out of the kitchen. As soon as he did, she cheerfully called, “Commander, over here.”

She handed him a freshly brewed cup of tea. Xi Yuechen loved tea, and Su Ruo had even specially learned how to make it properly. Her skills weren’t quite polished yet, and since she didn’t have time today, she just brewed him a good cup of loose-leaf tea.

“Commander, the military exercise just ended. Isn’t the base busy?”

“What, don’t want me to come home?” Xi Yuechen took a sip of tea and raised an eyebrow at her.

Su Ruo nearly choked at his words. She forced a laugh and said, “Of course not, it’s only natural for you to come home… I was just asking.” She also wanted to sneak in a question about when he planned to go back—but wisely kept that part to herself.

Surely he wouldn’t return to the base the same day he came home, right?

“There’s nothing urgent now. As long as I return before the commendation ceremony, it’s fine,” Xi Yuechen answered seriously, not teasing her anymore.

“Commendation ceremony? For the military exercise?” Su Ruo set her teacup down and asked curiously.

“Mm. Those with outstanding performance during the exercise will be commended and rewarded.”

“Then you’ll be getting a reward too, right~ I wonder what it’ll be. Will you be promoted?” Su Ruo asked, full of excited curiosity.

Seeing how interested she was, Xi Yuechen actually said a bit more than usual: “Mm, I’ll probably be promoted. Before I left, the political commissar of the military district already mentioned something to me.” What he didn’t say aloud was that, even before the exercise, her father had already hinted that if he performed well, a promotion was practically guaranteed. Xi Yuechen quietly added that part to himself.

“Really? That’s great! That means you’ll be a senior colonel soon—so impressive!”

Xi Yuechen was never one to care much about such ceremonies, but seeing how happy Su Ruo was, he couldn’t help but feel a bit of anticipation for the upcoming commendation event. Perhaps… he could take this little woman along with him?

Time flew by, and before long, it was time to sleep. Su Ruo felt nervous, her heart pounding wildly and her cheeks burning.

They say absence makes the heart grow fonder, and what followed was only natural.

Unlike his usual composed self, Xi Yuechen’s actions carried a rare urgency, which made Su Ruo’s heart tremble slightly.

Her lips were soon sealed by his, tongues entangled, breath quickening and growing uneven. She responded instinctively, arms weakly draped around his neck, pulled along by the rhythm he set.

At some point, the two had shed all barriers between them, their bodies pressed closely together, warmth intermingling.

Gone was Xi Yuechen’s usual calm and unshakable demeanor. His lips trailed down to her delicate neck, planting kisses both deep and light, while his hands explored her soft, yielding form.

Su Ruo felt her mind go blank, left without an anchor. All she could do was cling to Xi Yuechen, as though grasping driftwood in a vast sea—something solid to hold on to.

Only now did Xi Yuechen feel that the vague emptiness he had carried these past days was finally being filled. Watching Su Ruo—so lovely, breathless, and lost under his touch—he lowered his head and tenderly kissed her trembling, shut eyes. Her long, curled lashes brushed against his lips, and he felt his heart melt like spring water.

“Ruo Ruo, call my name,” he whispered.

Su Ruo, her reason already swept away, shivered at the husky murmur and unconsciously answered, “Commander…”

Xi Yuechen frowned slightly, clearly dissatisfied with the title. He gently caressed her flushed face, now tinged with the hues of desire, and suddenly found this little woman before him to be more enchanting than ever.

“Not ‘Commander’. Call me Yuechen.”

He leaned in close, whispering into her ear, his breath warm.

“Yue… Yuechen…”

At that moment, Su Ruo felt as though her whole body were aflame, unbearably hot. Whatever he asked, she could only obey.

“Say it again. A few more times,” Xi Yuechen murmured with a smile tugging at his lips. He glanced at her delicate earlobe and gently took it into his mouth, savoring it slowly. In that instant, he felt as though a sponge within him was soaking up sunlight—warm and full.

Under Xi Yuechen’s strong yet affectionate guidance, Su Ruo yielded completely, like a pool of spring water stirred by his touch, ready to be taken.

He was deeply satisfied with how wholeheartedly she leaned on him. His hand, burning with heat, slowly reached for her most intimate place—and everywhere he touched, the fire grew.

“Yuechen… it hurts…” Su Ruo’s breathy voice carried a faint sob, full of grievance and helplessness.

“Be good, it’ll be over soon.” Her soft complaint was like fuel to a fire—Xi Yuechen’s eyes seemed to blaze with restrained heat. He could no longer hold back.

The night deepened, long and quiet, brimming with tender intimacy.

The next morning, Xi Yuechen stood by the bed, looking helpless and slightly guilty as Su Ruo lay curled under a thin blanket, completely ignoring him.

He coughed lightly, eyes filled with affection. When he got up earlier, he couldn’t help but notice the marks scattered across her skin. They’d gone to sleep very late, and it was clear she wasn’t feeling well now.

Though he felt a little guilty, Colonel Xi certainly had no intention of repenting—or if he did, he was doing an excellent job pretending otherwise. As the old saying goes: “Once you get a taste, it’s hard to stop.”

“Ruo Ruo, get up and wash your face. Time to eat. Don’t be difficult.”

“Hmph,” came a muffled protest from beneath the blanket.

Worried she might suffocate, Xi Yuechen tried to gently tug the blanket away, but Su Ruo clutched it tightly, refusing to let go.

He was too guilty to be angry, so he just sat on the edge of the bed, staring helplessly at the lump of bedding she had become.

Su Ruo lay under the covers, sulking. He always acted like such a gentleman—how could he turn into a brute the moment things got intimate? Did he think she was made of plastic and couldn’t feel pain?

After a while, she couldn’t stand it anymore. With a sudden yank, she threw the blanket off and sucked in fresh air, breathing heavily. She was miserable.

“Finally willing to come out?” Xi Yuechen watched as she poked her head out from the blanket. Her hair was messy but charming, and he found the disheveled look rather endearing.

Su Ruo glared at him, clearly annoyed by his cheerful expression.

But freshly awakened after a passionate night, her attempt at a fierce look only made her seem more enchanting, her eyes soft and misty.

“Ahem, alright, stop fussing. Get up and wash up—I’ve already made breakfast.” He cleared his throat in a half-hearted attempt to be serious, though he couldn’t hide the amusement in his expression.

“I can’t. I have no strength,” Su Ruo grumbled hoarsely.

“If you keep lying there, I’ll have to use force,” he said in a mock-threatening tone.

His voice made her heart tremble with a mix of fear and indignation. Force? Who was the reason she felt like this in the first place?

“Get out. I need to get dressed.” Though she was sulking, she didn’t dare push her luck. She knew Xi Yuechen was fully capable of following through on his “threat.”

He raised an eyebrow, amused by the sight of her still wrapped in the blanket. At this point, was there even anything left to hide? Still, with a soft chuckle, he turned and left the room.

Only when he was gone did Su Ruo lift the blanket and start to get dressed—only to freeze when she saw herself.

Xi Yuechen, just you wait! What’s with all these bruises? It’s like she’d been through a battle—her body covered in purples and blues. Absolutely outrageous!
